Buy a good knife. There's always use for one innawoods.
Once i didn't bring my knife with me for a one night camp and i was a danger to the whole forest because instead of playing with my Glock M78 i started playing with matches.

Get running. Being in good shape makes everything easier.

Be mentally prepared to work hard for extended periods of time, just keep on it and you'll be done eventually.

Listen to your commanders and do what they tell you to, even if you're unlucky and get some loud asshole.

Don't be a snowflake. The smallest unit is two, everything you do will be with other people who are all in the same seat as you. You can be special later.

Check the sights on your rifle and if they are loose or wiggly ask your sergeant or lieutenant or whoever for a new rifle. When you get issued your weapon check this first as well as the shoulder stock and try to get another right there on the spot if there is anything wrong.. the worst they can do is scoff at you when your at the depot.

Also figure out which, if any of your magazines feed reliably and whether you should change those as well.

Buy a decent water resistant head lamp with a red filter.

A good knife (glock m78 or a knock off), but i'd hold on that, some units let you use your rifle bayo for everything knife related. If your not allowed to use your bayo then let your freinds/parents buy the knife and bring it to you on visiting day.

A good scarf/buff (in estdcu). The ones they issue are shit.

Buy good camo cream (brown and green m97). The issued stick camo is bad if you have problematical skin.

Once you know what rifle you'll carry buy decent fucking mag pouches. Also a drop pouch is seriously useful. Galvi Linda is a good choice.

Buy/bring a solid thermos (350ml or so). Would be ideal if it was slim enough to fit into a mag pouch. Tea or coffe in classis is allowed and you wont fall asleep (and get punished). Also hot beverage on a cold night is a life saver.

Hi, the previous Glock M78 user from before again.
I wouldn't bother with a knockoff since most of them cost almost the same amount.
But if money is scarce (not that m78 is expensive for what you get) i'd suggest mora or other cheap builder's knife from a hardware store. It will last your conscription easily and if it gets stolen or broken it won't matter a huge amount.
I don't know about estonia but in finland we weren't issued bayonets. Never even saw one.
No time to train bayo usage so they won't bother with them at all.
Had a nice moment when one officer from parajaeger regiment complimented my knife and it's sharpness. He too carried M78

Go to the hardest branch/training you can. It will suck when it lasts, but the memories are totally worth it. Also slackers wont be there, everyone there will be motivated.

We were not allowed to take out our rifle bayos, but we still had them. I've been seeing more and more units use them, tho alot of them are from Scoutspataljon.
M78 is very popular here, because they are relatively cheap and indestructible, gave my knife to my brother who is also in conscription at the moment.

I'll add to this:
When you get mags, look at the feed lips, particularly the rear where they join the mag body. If they look bent or there are cracks, that's a sign that the mag may be near dead. When loading the mag, check to see if one side is looser than the other-easier to get rounds in/out. That indicates the lips are out of spec. Finally, take the loaded mag, hold it bullets down and whach the base (now on top) with your palm a few times. If bullets go flying after less than 3 solid hits the mag's dead. I don't know what Finland's like, but for me all I had to do was go to the armory with the empty mags, hand them over and I got new replacements.

I lived in Korea a few years taking a break from school. Since I'm born from Korean parents, I'm technically considered a Korean national by their government and still obligated for conscription. There actually have been instances of Korean Americans being conscripted while visiting the country. Regardless, I didn't want to lose dual citizenship so I decided to report for conscription.

I spent half a year in a riot supplement unit, basically a group of fresh boots that gets sent to help the National Police quell riots. I spent the rest of my time in a Capital unit that's supposed to storm the Blue House if its ever attacked. We did some pretty operator shit, but never saw any real action.
