>The soldier was mortally wounded late Saturday during an operation in Nangarhar provinceā in eastern Afghanistan, US navy captain Bill Salvin said in a message on the official Twitter account of the Nato-led Resolute Support mission.

Are ISIS really that much of a deal in Afghan? The taliban have recently taken sangin. I though Isis were just having a small scrap with the tali in the hills. Why waste resources on them. Let them in fight and fucking kill each other.

In Nangarhar, Kunar, Nuristan from what I've heard.
Daesh has been pushing Taliban out of those provinces for a little while now. Even heard they were making moves in Baghlan, and Kunduz provinces.
Taliban is much stronger in the South, Helmand, Kandahar etc...

I don't get how places like this can seem to be locked in permanent war yet they never run out of fighters. Modern weapons are more lethal than at any time in history and even irregular forces are using dem drones and shit.
I guess it's because none of them can aim for shit. A 24 hour gunfight, tens of thousands of rounds fired, one goat KIA and two wounded.

The terrain is incredibly difficult, and practically made for hiding.
Two years ago, 14 years into the war. We finally found this.
>"The operation, announced by the U.S. military on Oct. 11, hit one training area that sprawled over 30 square miles and another small one that was about one square mile, U.S. military officials said. U.S. and Afghan troops were involved in the ground assault, with 63 airstrikes launched to cover them. Some 160 al-Qaeda fighters were reported killed."
