If the Americans were driving the 262, I think we'd have seen adoption of tactics similar to how the F4U Corsair was used. Straight line, hit and run, early energy-management technique.

OP was wondering if for some reason one side or the other was incapable of upgrading (purged scientists like Pol Pot maybe) and was pretty much stuck with the WWII technology they obtained from that war but was at least capable of reverse engineering, but maybe using better quality engine materials if that would have helped 1940s war tech. In video games it seems more evenly matched than one would think.
