Newest acquisition, and my first Spyderco Sprint Run.

Holy shit this thing is probably the sharpest knife out of the box. I had no idea VG-10 could get so sharp. I started to run my finger across the edge to test it and didn't feel it bite into me and before I knew it I was about to draw blood :|

I mean fuck me dead. At least throw in some S30V. At that price we should be getting some super steel for our money.

Can I get advice for someone new to knives regarding sharpening? I want to know what the bare essentials are to start to learn how to maintain and sharpen my knives without the fear of permanently fucking over the blades and I'm not sure if I need a strop, kitchen steel, bench stone in different grits or a combination of these. I don't think 154cm is really a deal breaker if the fit and finish were high. But it's probably not.

And honestly "supper steel" is kind of a marketing meme. In reality supper high carbide steel is only better at edge holding in some cases, but a lot of times a steel with high Edge Stability could be better.

>>33573724
As far as Cold Steel goes the Code4 and Broken Skull are about it. But honestly, they are very thin knives. My Code4 is thinner than all of my Spydercos and almost as thin as my Al Mar Eagle and Kershaw Skylines.

>>33574132
>>33574482
Al Mar does tend to be expensive for the steel, however, they have exceptionally high fit & finish. More so, considering they have a very good heat treat, even their AUS8a knives have pretty good edge retention. Honestly I don't think it's a deal breaker, for what roles their knives work best for, it's more than a good enough steel, granted VG-10 across the board would be great. Not to mention they do make knives with high end steel, like my Al Mar Eagle in laminated ZPD-189.

>>33574398
I already bought one :D
I love the Boker Kwaiken line, I have 3 of them already. Keep in mind though, those are not shipping till like late August. That's a longer wait than I would expect for some swords.

>>33574625
>>33574707
It looks good Condor. The sheath will probably take a while to break in. And yeah Hanwei, and sword manufactures in general, use very thick oil, mostly because their sword have to ship from China, and swords tend to sit around a lot before being sold, not to mention they are all carbon steel. How sharp did it come?

>>33574814
Yeah Opinel makes a great knife, I carry my No.9 carbon from time to time. But single hand opening (and locking/closing) is really nice when you are working.

>>33574912
The 0562 is a great design right? I have a 0562cf and carry it quite often, it's very ergonomic and carries well. Not to mention a really useful blade shape.

>>
>>33575066
Well, to be honest I was kind of looking for something with the compression lock. I do find their stuff overpriced since it's mostly just G10 and VG-10 that China can produce for about 10-30$ but that's most knife companies isn't it?
>>
This thread is only good for pictures thanks to these namefags

I main /mlp/ and I have yet to see people as cringy as you guys
>>
>>33575181

Yes

Cold Steel makes tougher and more affordable shit.

I dont see any inherent advantages to a spyderco, the Manix seems ok and the shape of the endura as well. Compression locks are a meme, the old backlock is still to date the strongest.
>>
>>33574693

I have heard their repair returns can be long. The knife functions flawlessly but I think if it ever breaks I can just have them re-anodize it probably.

You also can only really see it if you tilt the knife sideways so it isn't that bad for now.

> Spyderco is a big ass meme blown way out of proportion
What's your reasoning? I completely disagree, all the Spydercos I've handled have been very good for the street retail price. And their FFG utilitarian blades make great work horse knives. I think in general Spyderco is better value than Benchmade and is one of the best value mid level production manufacturers.

>>33575137
Yeah I figured. It does not make sense to me. Pretty much any half decent entry level Katana comes very sharp with good geometry, yet similarly priced/quality European designs are not properly sharp (which they should be, historically and for modern reproduction), and it's not just Hanwei that is guilty of this.

>>33575206
>old backlock is still to date the strongest
Sort of. Lock design is not everything, implementation is very important. Back locks are harder to judge how well they are made with out taking the knife apart. With any lock design the interface is the most important, with bad interface, the lock with fail easily. This includes blacklocks. I would trust a Compression lock over most cheap lock backs, because you can at lest judge the interface, and it fails in a linear manure, where as lockbacks reach a critical point and fail instantly with out warning.

I agree Cold Steel makes the strongest production locks, if not the strongest period. But keep in mind, they are not backlocks, they are a variation, the Tri-Ad, they added a stop pin. This changes the interface greatly.

But question if supper strong locks is a meme in it self. After a lock gets strong enough to not fail in most accidents (hitting the spine on a table by accident) or in a stab, it's good enough. Unless you want to intentionally abuse the knife, good enough, is all that is needed.

While I agree Cold Steel offers more utilitarian value than Spyderco (I carry my Code4 more than my PM2).... But utilitarian design is not all there is. If that were the case I would only own 3 or 4 knives, not 50+

Yeah it looks like a nice one. Ti Liners would have been nice, but that would be a massive bump up in price. For $100 it is very impressive. I manged to get one on the first 400, so I'll have one under #500. Not that it really maters, but I've gotten pretty lucky with the numbers on my Kwaikens so far, all under 300. Even the Brous Blade one is #308.

Too bad we have to wait till late August for them to ship. I'm just going to try and forget about it so it's a surprise when it gets here.

And thanks anon, it's nice to hear that people like my posts. I've been using the name Dan as an online name as long as I've been into knives, on many different forums, sometimes with different last names. Partly because I was still in public school when I started, and/or for future careers. Unfortunately we live in a time where owning a bunch of non-kitchen knives can be seen as a red flag for employers. I've never used my real name on any online account, besides legal/government stuff.

Wow that's a great deal. I've only turned a profit on a few knives.. Granted I have a few right now I could turn a big profit on, but I like too much to get rid of, like my Spyderco Tuff.

I noticed right now Cutlery Shoppe has the Gold ZT 0808 for $150, that's one hell of a deal, and I would buy it if I had the budget. I could probably turn a profit on that in a half year or so.

The XL Voyager is a good knife, I have a tanto one, it was my first "mega folder". Never been a fan of the handle texture, but it's good from a utilitarian stand point. I mean, 6ish years later and mine still is gripy.

It's sad though, it's about to lose it's spot in my Pelican case. I bought a XL Talwar and it's going in its spot. It and my XL Espada will be my two folders that can't fit in the case.

Looking for something to replace it. Must have finger guard, be a flicker, and blade under 3.5". My favorite knife ever so far has been the Gerber Evo ( not pictured) with the weight/ balance ease to flip one handed, and the blade shape. The Dozier was dangerous because no finger guard.

Suggestion for under ~$25? I want a Skyline but out of price range. Ontario RAT too bulky

>>33580206
Hmm what issues in particular did you have with AUS8a? I agree, as far as entry level steels go, AUS8a can take a bit more finesse. Right now I'm sharpening my XL Espada in AUS8a, it's taking longer than I expected, mostly because I'm thinning it to 16.5dps, and I was dumb and did not double check my angle, so I was asymmetric for a while.

I find VG-10 to be ones of the easiest steels to sharpen, it feels good on the stones, and it take a really nice polish. My Boker Kwaiken in VG-10 has about the best polish I've done so far, pic related.

Never handled anything from the Volt line, but I have handled a RAT 2 (gave it to a friend), and I own a Chill and RAT 1. The Chill is the second one up in the middle in pic related, and the Rat 1 is... well bright pink.

I like the Chill, it's a great knife considering the price. The flipper may need some oil/tuning to break in and flip with out help from the wrist, but when you get it right, it will lightswitch and push button well. I like R.J.Martin's designs in general. But this one is almost uncanny in how similar it is to the CRKT Ripple by Ken Onion. I don't have mind on hand to reference, but basically the Ripple looks and flips better, but is less comfortable.

The Chill is also pretty ergonomic given it's size. Same with the RAT 2, although I've not handled one in a year or so.

I would say, just for general/light EDC the Chill is not a bad choice. But the RAT 2 maybe more sturdy. Also, I don't know how good the screws on the Chill will be if you plan to take it apart. Kershaw Chines screws have a bad reputation, I just took one out (T6) and looked at it, but keep in mind I'm using Wiha bits that are more expensive than the knife. But this will not be a problem if you don't plan on taking apart the knife. You can lubricate the pivot with frog lube. Nano grease is the best, but then you run into that, "it's more expensive than the knife" dilemma.

How much is the fake Kwaiken? I did not even know they made them. Ali has them for $60 plus shipping I assume... If you are spending $70 why even bother? For just $30 more you could get a real one, that actually uses VG-10. I promise you the fake one does not actually have VG-10, maybe the Sebenza is D2, still unlikely but possible. And this is not even going into the grade of "Titanium" used, and lock interface, and shit chines screws. That maybe a big problem, the real Kwaiken has T4 screws, I hope for the sake of sanity the Chines did not try to copy those, I doubt they would even be able to screw them in with out ruining the threads.

All of this rant being; unless you just want you just want to fool people (people how are not supper astute about knives) into thinking you have high end knives for cheaper, or you just want to feel the dimensions of a higher end knife that is hard to get... Why bother with fake knives? It's such a gamble, you may get a good one, you may get a pile of junk, and good luck returning that.

Boker clone was from dhgate, like $25. Look for highest order count.
Has enclosed bearings btw, so its slightly easier to maintain than the original ikbs. But not as smooth from what I heard

Sebby was from Ali for $35ish. LDT. Has real D2 and some titanium.
I hope it's as smooth as the real one, but I doubt it. Will lube and sand the washers if needed.

>>33581839
I'm aware you can get a used kwaiken for $70-80 on eBay.

The LDT sebby def has D2 and some low grade titanium, but does it really matter?

I use cheap Kershaws as a daily, I see no reason not to buy chinky clones. I'm not ever going to give $400 sheckels to Chris.

Also if it's a pile of junk, you can also Jew the chinks, never forget that.

hey check this shit out nerds.
In an unusual case, as many as 40 knives were surgically removed from the stomach of a policeman in Gurudaspur, Punjab who claimed that he used to feel an "urge" to eat them.

In August, a team of five doctors carried out a five-hour long surgery on Surjeet Singh, 40, who is employed with Punjab Police and is posted at Tarn Taran district, at a hospital.

"He had a wild urge to consume metal. Even for us, the experienced surgeons, it was frightening," Dr Jatinder Malhotra told CNN.

"A series of ultrasounds followed by various tests, including endoscopy and CT scan, related to the stomach were carried out before the surgery as the patient was admitted in the hospital with severe weight loss, besides multiple ailments.

"In the beginning, cancer was suspected but during investigation some hard metal substances were found inside the stomach that had damaged liver and kidney and other organs," said Malhotra who led the team of doctors during the operation.

"We were so nervous... a small mistake could have taken the patient's life," Malhotra said. "In my 20 years of practice, I have never seen anything like it."

Malhotra said they found folded knives, unfolded knives and rusted and broken knives in the man's stomach.

Strider's folders are pretty lackluster these days. Before Ti framelocks became a big thing they made sense, but now that there is a lot of competition that don't match up at their price tag.
>>
>>33585855
No.

CRKT are well built for the price and the materials are OK. That blade steel isn't great but at that price point you don't have a lot of choices, though coatings on stainless never made sense to me as a design choice. If you are gonna coat a simple carbon will outperform a stainless at the same all in price.
>>
>>33585855
They are okay. Mine had some pretty poor quality control issues with the blade and I found the handle uncomfortable since the little point where the thumbstud/blade stop rests dug into my hand. Also the pocket clip is only tip down which kind of sucks. They are pretty solid though, at least the frame lock versions. I would recommend the RAT 2 which has better blade grind for what you are wanting it for.

Best friend has had one for like 15 years, since his 12th birthday. Now in the Arm station in hawaii and still had it, uses it every day. Everyone has different expectations and uses with a knife. Some people think they need a $100+ Spyderco for their white collar office job. Other's use a $9.99 Chinese piece of shit steel for slicing scrapping, cutting all kinds of things on a day to day basis. As an electrician and HVAC guy, I favor the cheaper knives, BECAUSE they see hard use. It would be stupid as fuck to get a Code4 or Griptilian that some autists always recommend when it just doesn't make sense to buy, when the lowest of the low blades can see hard use, and sharpen up quickly and very easily.

I think the Link is an exceptionally good knife for the money. I think it's even better value than the Skyline. I wish I would have gotten one of the blue s35vn ones, but I was too late. I'm sure there will be many more iterations of it, so I'll wait to grab one of those. 420hc is not a deal breaker at $40.

The only thing you should look for, the spring assist is prone to breaking at some point (maybe with in the first few weeks, if it's a bad spring). If that happens, it's no big deal, just email Kershaw and they will send you a new spring for free, or you can send the knife in if you don't want to take it apart.

>>33588571
>It's objectively the best clip
I'm not sold. It depends on the knife, but some knives with deep carry clips are hard to pull out of your pocket (like my Brous Blades Sniper). More so, with really big knives, I like the extra pocket space a normal clip gives.

The Matriarch is good but it is limited in it's applications. Terminology changes a little when you switch from knife talk to sword talk. What a knifefag may call a tapering full length tang, or maybe even a rat tail, a lot of European swordfags call their swords "Full tang", to explain the tang is not welded, goes all the way through the handle, and is substantial enough to not be a "rat tail". Then add on "peened" or "threaded" or "nut" to explain how it is secured. My type XII longsword here would be a full tang with a peened pommel. At lest in the general groups I talk with.

It doesn't really matter that much for a combat knife.

"Combat knife" itself isn't that specific either since there are different kinds of combat knives and different types of combat, so a knife good for one form of combat wouldn't be good for the other.
>>
>>33591098
Not a swordfag, so why don't most swords have a knife-style full tang with handle scales? I feel like full tangs go up to some machetes, and then just stop appearing. Is it a grip issue? Weight? Balance? Or is a full tang just unnecessary?

I'm not sure why that is really. There are swords that are built like knives, with handle scales. Messers for example, a lot of them have exposed tangs, some are enclosed, but still full tang. Gross Messers (Big Knife) probably cam about though because in some areas (medieval times) they were considered "knives", so knife makers, who could not legally make swords, could get away with making them. Also the Katana has a pretty large tang, not exposed though, pic related is mine taken apart for cleaning. But that for the most part is speculation, granted via some scholars who know their shit. As for how the European sword got it's handle design, it dates back past the Romans.

>>33591685
It's a knife yes, but borderline short sword, and it's handle design is that of an historical sword, and it is a historical design in general. Even though it's a knife, it falls under the sword fag genera more so than knife fag. At lest in my opinion.

>>33591898
The definition of full tang varies even in the knife market. Everyone can agree that visible tang, either flush with the scales or in some cases proud, is full tang. But what about knives with rubber handles around the tang? Like the Cold Steel SRK, Recon Tanto, and a lot of Falknivens. By their marketing, and most peoples opinion, it's still full tang because the tang is substantial and the length of the handle, but others would argue it's a beefy partial tang.

I enjoy knife terminology. So many different terms to describe tangs, tips, grinds, edges, locks, handles, ect... hundreds of words to describe what most people just think of as a "simple" knife.

They make good stuff, by no means are they bad knives. But I do not think they are that great of a value, at lest a lot of their knives, when compared with other brands.

But they are good enough, that if you happen to really like one of their designs, you certainly are not being ripped off.

I have handled and sharpened many benchmades, but it's the one big brand I've yet to own anything from.

>>33593128
What kind of handle? Material? I assume they are collection/safe queen knives if you are worried about scratching the handle. I don't know about if microfiber clothes get old or not, or if they need cleaning. The only time I use them is for applying Renaissance wax, I cut them into 2" by 2" squares, and can only use them a few times before having to throw them out.
>>
So I get one knife 60% off MSRP from benchmade becuase my work sells them. I'm not a knife guy, so is it even worth getting a spendy knife for essentially just opening boxes?

Also 55% off kershaw and 40% spyderco. Although I have notice that street prices on all of these are like 15-20% cheaper than MSRP, so it's really not that great a deal I guess.
>>
>>33593241

I am not sure of the exact material of the cloth, it came with the knife and I noticed recently when I tilt the aluminum handle (It is 6061-T6 Textured Aluminum) there are a few very small microscopic scratches around it. But unless I tilt it a lot and put it under bright light they are pretty much invisible. I have the knife in a pelican case so that shouldn't be scratching it and when I carry it I only have my wallet in that pocket (no keys or anything to ding it).

I guess some aluminum handle knives are prone to scratching. For now it doesn't seem to be that apparent just annoying knowing my knife has microscopic scratches on the handle.

What knife? And yes Aluminum is pretty soft, so it will scratch with use, and if anodized it will show it. The finish can help or hinder too. Bead blast, satin, and mirror finishes show scratches pretty well. Stonewash finishes cover up scratches very well.

Depending on the knife though, you maybe able to send it in to get refinished, if you want to clean it up one day. Some companies/makers offer a "spa" treatment, but this is more of a high end knife thing.

Pic related is my Ti Military. It's handles are Titanium, I only carry it in my phone pocket, all the scratches on it are from maybe a few months accumulative carry over the past 2 years. I like the scratches honestly, it's really unavoidable for knives you carry and use, and I think it gives my knives character.

>>33593203
The 940-1 is exceptionally light yes... But I can think of a few. Opinel No.8, A.G.Russle Featherlight, Al Mar (micarta Eagle), Cold Steel Broken Skull is close, and a few others.

Not to diminish the 940-1 though, it's an awesome knife. I've had a hard time letting go of the one I've had in for sharpening.
>>
>>33593288
> 60% off MSRP from benchmade
That's pretty good since their MAP policy normally restricts the prices to something stupid, like 15% off msrp as cheapest.

>40% spyderco
Spyderco's MAP is 40%, so you might save some money on shipping or whatever.

Don't know about Kershaw.

I had to send my Ultratech Bounty Hunter in a week after I got it because a few of the chassis screws decided not to stay threaded anymore. Took them like 7 weeks to fix it. They replaced the entire chassis of the knife.

They'll just replace, repairing the actual part isn't cost-effective.
>>
>>33590961
I like it, very sturdy and quality throughout. It is a big knife though and you will feel it in your pocket. It obviously wasn't made for EDC stuff so keep that in mine if you plan on getting it.
>>
>>33587833
Honestly it doesn't make any sense to carry anything outside of a box cutter or multitool that has a knife on it in terms of cutting tools. That being said there's nothing wrong with getting quality knife for hard use. That Griptilian and Code 4 are going to last a life time assuming that person isn't prying with the blade and knows how to sharpen. I might add that both of those can be found for 60-80$ so about 3-4 CRKT M16s or other cheaper knives.

I've not taken a serious look into them. To me they look like junk. Generally any nameless damascus for sub $100 or so is a give away. Not to mention, just looking at that pic, look at how scratched up the handle is around the pivot. Also, its hard to see because of the damascus, but that's a pretty sloppy grind. And notice the slight re-curve on the edge right after the sharpening choil. That says two things: Sloppy plunge grind, and it was sharpened on some high speed sander with little care.
>>
>>33593620

It is an ultratech I have owned for only 2 months now. Great knife I just am shocked because I have other aluminum handle knives I have carried for like 6+ months to over a year that don't have any tiny scratches like the ultratech.
>>
>>33596166
That means the other ones werent really aluminum. Aluminum scratches almost instantly.
>>
>>33596179

I have a benchmade 940 with an aluminum handle that has only 1 small scratch on it from months of carrying it and none of those tiny scratches all over it.

I just was curious why they are so different in terms of retaining their finishes and scratch resistance.

>others would argue it's a beefy partial tang

And I would argue those people are dinguses.

I've never seen the point in changing the terminology, especially since there's enough nuance already. For instance, IMO just about every tang that goes all the way through the handle is full tang but there are exceptions like rat tail tangs, especially if the thinner section is welded on and not actually part of the blade. Now that I think about it a lot of people don't seem to know the difference between a rat tail tang and a stick tang.

I was probably fortunate to be a BladeForums fag before I came to /k/, not to say that BladeForums didn't also have plenty of dumbasses. If I had a dollar for every time I saw "not a blade expert, but..." then I'd have a Busse gladius.

Pro; good geometry for stabbing and penetration

Con; stabbing is very foolish as it's the number 1 cause of "slipping the guard" and slicing the shit out of all four fingers and crippling your hand.

So in conclusion, if it's a fixed blade with a nice hefty guard you can't slip past then tanto makes for a good combat tip.
If it's a dinky little folder with no guard worth mentioning then tanto is pointless and essentially just for "mall ninja" looks.

Drop point is the best all-around geometry for what a knife is meant to do, cutting and slicing.

Comparing to original, obvious differences is that the blade is shorter and made of mystery steel, there are no serrations on the flipper, the action is much smoother and liners are thinner and not ground flat. It's also slightly lighter due to thinner liners and shorter blade.

The American tanto is not good for penetration, it's good for stabbing because it's a very strong, and it leaves a very large entry wound. While deeper penetration it's more lethal, it larger wound is more incapacitating. Also we can be used for "flick" cuts if you're into that kind of thing.

I've heard some people say they like it for utility, pointing out that the secondary tip is good for opening boxes, personally I don't like it.

Clip, Bowie, spear, and some variations of trailing points (depending on the size of the knife) serve a similar utilitarian roll.

personally though I'm a big fan of warn cliffs and sheep's foot points with a swept back edge for utility. Like the ZT 0770cf in pic related.

Current daily carry is about $900 worth of blade, so I don't really feel like I need (strictly speaking) anything else.

Having said that, I'm looking at a tolk, a kwaiback, a medium F3, and a glimpse 6.0. Only thing stopping me from going full retard and gorging myself on new knives is a USP and getting ready for the local range to open back up again.

The design of the knife is making me think it's cheap chinkshit but it seems a bit too thick for that which makes me think it's an expensive knife designed to appeal to the same people who fall for cheap chinkshit. The fact that the pivot screw doesn't appear to be close to flush with the handle is making me lean back towards the former, although that could just be due to the angle that the photo was taken.

Even after finding a larger version of this image I can't read what's on the blade or the pocket clip but the pocket clip is kind of making me think Ganzo since I'm seeing what looks like a big circle in front of a short name. Ganzo doesn't seem to make anything like this though, at least not that a cursory search turned up.

They are very nice knives, but given the temper and lock strength, and that the tolerances honestly are not that much better than the Taichung Spydercos and ZT, I mean you have to look really freaking close... I do think they are very much over priced. Paying a lot for the brand name, admittedly very good warranty, and the prestige of the knife.

If I were to get a Sebenza, it would be a used one, I would only use it as a light EDC or dress... But I don't plan on getting one any time. There's a lot of other $400 knives I rather buy first.

Spyderco makes great inexpensive knives.
I've owned plenty of them over the yeears including the old Clipit models and several of the ones with stainless handles. At this point in my life i seem to be more attracted to knives that are in the $200 - $300+ price range

SOG can BTFO. I'm excited about the Spyderco Sliver. Designed by the same guy who did the Ouroboros, S30V with CF scales and it is one of the two compression lock flippers revealed at SHOT. The first time Spyderco has used the Compression lock on a flipper, and it's on a knife designed by Paul Alexander. The only way this can go wrong is if it's more than $150, given the Sage 5 is roughly the same thing at $120. I just hope it's not going to be obscenely overpriced like the Ouroboros. Still, fucking COMPRESSION LOCK FLIPPER. Hype.

>300€

I don't know if the same rules apply across the ocean but here in the US paying MSRP is like paying sticker price for a car.

>$229.95

I'm sure it's more in Europe but I doubt it's MSRP.

Also, I think that knife isn't worth it. Even Boker's cheaper lines include some nice shit and that's straight up Boker but for a $200 knife budget I'd rather go with 2 Ontario RAT 1s, an ESEE 4, and an Ontario SP1. Of course, I'm not you. If you really like the knife then go for it. If you're looking for something nice to carry in the $200 range then maybe look into Benchmade as an alternative, I like the green 940. The 440c that the Boker has isn't a bad steel but you'll get a better steel from BM at that same price point.

If you don't care about practicality you could get something ridiculous for that money.

It changed a little since I took this picture, I cut a slot to fit my Cold Steel Xl Voyager (which will now be replaced by my XL Talwar I just got).

Also the anti-moisture box (metal one in the back) is now in a slot I cut out up against the front of the case.

Things to note:
-the shorter fixed blade goes below the taller one.
-Above the foam is where I keep handkerchiefs and the sharpening log for my folders
-embedded in the side of the foam up top is extra Swiss Army Tweezers and Tooth picks.

But besides that it is the same. Let me find the best pic I have. I'm planning on taking some new pictures tomorrow.

Lots of sharpening, even with light force, starts to tweak your pivot point on a folding knife. Whether it's a chink knife or a high end one, sooner or later they wobble. Sometimes you can tighten the pivot and correct it, but then it won't open the same.

I use pic related for heavy work stuff. Digging up line sets and low voltage wire, where a trowel would be too big. Screwdriver too small. Slice up insulation. Slice up filter screens. Pry open panels.
>>

Sorry don't mind if I intervene here. Most knives, definately any decent quality one ($20ish +) , can be taken apart, cleaned, and put back together (with some exception, like pinned construction) and be the same if not better. Most of my knives are far better (smoother, blade centering, maybe even better lock up) than they are from the factory after I tune them.

Pic related for example, far smoother after I put some nano grease on the bearings, and with the same lock up and centering.

More so, if you are putting more than a pound or two of force on your knife while sharpening, you are doing something wrong. And depending on your method (like blade clamping set angle systems) you may not have any pressure on the pivot. I don't know if it would cause a problem, but I use blue locktight on all my knives.

>>33615155
