As a diehard lever-fag, I hate them too. Not hard to use but I've never liked them so low power scopes or peep sights have been the go to.

Lyman,Skinner, Williams, or marbles can get you anywhere from precision to speed

I used to hate them too, until I learned what I was doing wrong, what the concept of the sight was, and how to unfuck myself on them. Now I LOVE them.

Basically, they're an apeture sight, just like you'd have on an M1 Garand or backup BUIS on your AR. Instead of a totally circular area, there's a semicircular area that you can use as a fast elevation gauge. Your eye will center the front sight in the "circle" (semicircle, in this case) of the rear sight just like an apeture sight. Yes, the rear sight should be blurred and the front sight in focus.
