What's a good starting rifle for here in Australia?
I've had a small amount of experience firing guns in highschool, but I would definitely still put myself in the "new" category.
What would you suggest?

Here go m8. This is all you're allowed to have.

I know... mfw almost all other related threads are borderline useless because Aus gun laws are ridiculous.
>>33567852
What can I say, it was a random grab from the net typing "rifle"
>>33567887
So, ok, fair enough.
I don't know what Aussies are legally allowed to own. Is there a list somewhere?
>>33567914
Not a list per se, but this is the "restrictions and conditions" for the state I live in.
I'm looking at Category A and B, btw. The other categories (by and large) are restricted to people with jobs requiring weapons.
Cheers for any input, by the way!
Ideally im wanting to get a rifle that I can learn the basics of shooting with, and if SHTF be able to actually hunt something like Kangaroo etc

forgot link, sorry.

Definitely .22lr, it looks like you can't even own center-fire rifles, what the fuck. I bet you could get a savage .22lr, sorry your state hates you so much.
>>33568003
ohhh, ok.
>>33568012
As usual, the ignorant cunt makes an appearance.
>>33568037
Cat B allows centrefire rifles, and I am able to get that as well.
Would you suggest rimfire or centrefire for a first rifle?
>>33568025
No worries. OK, so Category B includes:
>a) a muzzle-loading firearm;
Naah.
>b) a single shot centre-fire rifle;
Meh... maybe. Ruger No1 rifles are p legit...
c) a double barrel centre-fire rifle;
Yeah naah, WTF elephant safari.
d) a repeating centre-fire rifle;
HERE WE GO!
e) a break action shotgun and centre-fire rifle combination.
Also good.
If you want to learn basics and also be able to hunt, a bolt-action in a moderate caliber would be ideal. I have a pretty big boner for the CZ 527 in 7.62x39, which would be perfect for your needs, but I don't know if you guys can get that cartridge very easily.

It's not one state that hates us, it's the entire nation that hates us.

Thanks for the feedback!

>>b) a single shot centre-fire rifle;
The new Henry single-shot rifles look pretty sweet to be honest. And nowhere near as expensive as the Ruger No. 1 - they'll retail for $350-400 USD. I'm thinking of picking one up when they get released next month.

Can't you go to a range and try different guns out to see what you like? What kind of shooting do you intend to do?
>>33568276
I'm excited for them too. If they turn out to be accurate I'll probably pick one up in .308 for shits n gigs.

OP, go get yourself something cheap and reliable. The ruger american rimfire in 22LR is a good bet.
Where are you state-wise?

All you former commonwealth people should have a few enfields in the closet or whatever the bongs call closets. I'm sure the bongs have a funny name for the closet as they do for everything.

Can confirm that NZ still has this.
If you own enough land you are allowed a gun without a license just for safety and pest control.
We are the only commonwealth aglosphere country apart from the US without a gun owners register
>>33569567
>>33571383
Not for long if the new Arms Amendment bill gets through.
Then we'll both be in the same boat...
>>33571383
you do have a register though for pistols i know.
and possibly for centrefire semis (or they were trying to bring in a register for them cuz MUH BIKIES)
fuckin governments
>>33571383
>>33571581
NZ does have a gun owners register, but not an individual firearms register, except in the case of 'military style' semi autos, pistols, and collector's arms (machine guns, artillery, SMGs, etc.)
Also, I seriously doubt your claim you can legally own a firearm without a license for 'safety' and pest control, unless its an air rifle.
