6.5 Grendel vs 6.8SPC

which is "better" in terms of range, recoil, flatness and accuracy?

which one is more likely to be adopted by an army?
>>
>>33566971
Fuck if I know. DEA uses 6.8 rifles to shoot through windshields. I've only seen 6.5 in target ARs.

Military isn't going to change shit until LSAT 6.5 pans out, and apparently that's basically .260/6.5CM
>>
>>33566971
6.5 Grendel.
6.8 SPC is a meme-tier cartridge with worse ballistics than any decent .223.
>>
6.5 Grendel.
6.8 has shit ballistics, all the added size and weight with none of the benefits.
>>
6.5 is superior at everything except for muzzle energy.
>>
>>33566971
Both are relatively slow out of 16" barrels (2300fps for 120gr 6.5, 2450 for 120gr 6.8), which completely flies opposite to the HVSC trend of the last 75 years of cartridge design.

I don't think either would exist if the M16/M4 magwell was longer.

>Both are relatively slow out of 16" barrels
in that case, bullpup 6.5G W H E N

Stop trying to make Bullpup rifles happen. The Austrians and Israelis already tried.

Why not? just convert pic related to 6.5G and it'd be literal perfection
>>
>>33567343
Did the Israeli's drop the Tavor when I wasn't looking?
>>
>>33567539
No, the Israelis, Austrians, and Australians still use bullpups. Everyone else I can think of is either already using an AK or buying HK416s apparently.

Well, except Mexico. They wanted a gun named after a lizard chicken.
>>
>>33566971
Holy shit, is it 2006 again?

6.5 is better performance wise. Neither is ever going to get military adoption.

>which is "better" in terms of range, recoil, flatness and accuracy?

6.5Grendel typically has better ballistics.

>which one is more likely to be adopted by an army?

If it's only between the grendel and the spc, then the 6.8spc.
>>
I built a 6.8 SPC using a bison armory barrel (E.R. Shaw and White Oak using Shilen blanks) for hog hunting. Haven't been hog hunting yet but I love the rile. 16" 416R stainless MOA capable 29oz. The only downsides are the ammo price, magazines are steel, heavy, and expensive if you want them to work. Lot's of reloading data and components are cheap so thats a plus. I would love to see LWRCI's six8 platform gather more steam. The Jordian contract federal 96gr gold dots are awesome for a combat load.

If I was interested in building 6.5 grendel where would I start?
>>
>>33567587
>Neither is going to get military adoption

Serbia's fucking with it.
>>
Anyone fuck around with the 6.5 veprs yet?
>>
>>33566971
Been a few years since i looked into it so I'm not sure if there have been any breakthroughs with either rounds
6.5 is generally accepted as having better ballistics, long bullet makes for a sexy BC. 6.8 produces meh exterior ballistics but a pretty wide velocity tolerance for good terminal effect, then again a lot depends on bullet design.
The big thing holding the 6.5 back is the case geometry, last I heard it was kind of finicky when it came to feeding in auto loaders. 6.8 has the more conventional case geometry and has been integrated better into auto loaders.
To answer your question, 6.5 is the better cartridge in every metric you listed except recoil but that is very loading dependent. 6.8 would have the better chance of being adopted by a military, fewer logistical hurdles to integrating the round into conventional small arms designs due to the less extreme case geometry.
>>
6.5 Grendel is a 6mm PPC necked up to 6.5mm to get 1000 yard range. Soldiers are not going to shoot anything beyond 400 yards, just use the 6mm PPC
>>
>>33567565
It's pretty neat to have a mythic creature on the side if your standard infantry rifle

>>33568875
Of all the potential nationalist dick-waving to drum up what little nationalism exists in a failing state, this is probably the most pathetic

Still waiting on that.

I personally think it'd be more likely to convert a VEPR to one at this point.

These are gonna be you best sources. Get your mags from Alexander Arms directly. Even if you see the same mags for sale elsewhere ,the ones from AA have been inspected by AA for proper spec. Any barrels you may look at, make absolutely sure they are 6.5 Grendel. No Grendel 2, no Grendel improved etc. There is one damn spec for it. DO NOT cheap out on the bolt or assume a 7.62x39 bolt is ok
>>
>>33568834
Sure, if you want to limit projectile selection while pretending DMRs and SAWs don't exist. Adoption won't happen anyway but let's not act like all combat sits inside a defined bubble
>>
>>33568520

They're toying around with the 6.5 as a DMR round last I checked. The problem with 6.5 Grendel as a general purpose cartridge is its steep shoulder angle which can effect feeding in automatic weapons.
>>
>>33569343
There are guys competing at long range with 6mm on the regular. While it doesn't have the sexy BC of a 6.5, it doesn't need it as much due to the extra zip.

Although hat might not be such a good idea with a machine gun barrel though.
>>
>>33568947
I actually think its pretty neat
>>
>>33569583
>which can effect feeding in automatic weapons
It can cause feeding? WTF do you even mean by this
>>
They are both held back by the magazine well and it was already pointed out that their velocity isn't all that great.

Figured there would have been more sources for 6.5 since the patent expired.

I think China is moving away from the QBZ-95 for a lot of its troops. Iraq also recently adopted the Croatian rifle.
>>
>>33572225

no
they've adopted a traditional format rifle based on the QBZ-95 for some light infantry troops

>>33572225

only for special forces, which I was omitting from my list
>>
>>33571859
Wasn't about any patent. AA kept it proprietary until it was standardized and got everything the way it was supposed to be. The plan wasnt to be the sole source of 6.5, it was to avoid everyone and their mom putting out sub-par out of spec parts in a cash grab, which happened anyway. It's always made out to be some secretly guarded jewry though, like the posts above and below yours. Always gonna be bitching involved
