So, what is the outlook now? The MSM is baying for blood and talking about more action, Russia has taken down the airspace agreement and Assad is threatening to lob Scuds into Israel if there are more airstrikes.

Btw, why didn't the legendary S-3/400s shoot the cruise missiles down?

>>
>>33562849
The US warned the Russians beforehand. So the vatniks moved to cover. The Syrians seeing the vatniks move, started to move, too. That's why in the end only a half dozen or so people got killed. That's 10 tomahawks per person killed. Could as well crash land a nuclear carrier on an empty fishing village.

SAA is claiming it shot down 30 missiles. Kinda bold statement but we'll see.
>>
>>33563235
You know, it's also possible that they used the advanced warning from the White House and the knowledge that most of the missiles were only being fired for show to discredit American military capability. If your enemy tells you that they're going to fire 60 missiles but most aren't going to do shit, you're going to run with that.

Trump set up a propaganda slam dunk for the Kremlin, and I doubt they'd be dumb enough not to take the chance there.

>>33563257

>>
>>33563257

Back when nato was bombing Serbia I've heard cruise missiles suffered quite high losses from manpads fired from tall residential buildings so who know, maybe some where really shot down.
>>
>>33563283
The point I am making is that the US made an intentionally limp-wristed attack on a Syrian/Russian base as a show of force against Assad and for the American people, but Russia is exploiting this in an attempt to discredit American military capabilities.

>Tell Russia we're sending missiles
>But it's cool because most won't do shit
>"Sounds good, American comerade!"
>Missiles fly into Syria and do shit
>Russia turns to the rest of the world
>"haha, look at weak American missile!"
>howcouldthishappen.jpg
>>
>>33563243
Well Konashenkov said that "only 23 missiles have reached the airfield", but didn't specify what happened to the rest, he didn't mention anything about AA systems except that some radars were hit. Either they're not satisfied with their AA and are downplaying their involvement or didn't shoot any of them down and they simply crashed on their own.

>If your enemy tells you that they're going to fire 60 missiles but most aren't going to do shit, you're going to run with that.
This scenario doesn't benefit Washington at all, the only thing it achieves is (hopefully) silences the masses of people who only read the headlines and are upset with the use of chemical weapons which the US had blown out of proportion in the first place. So first they make up a problem, then pretend to fix it by using force, jeopardizing all the recent progress and playing into the hand of Russian propaganda machine and isis?

>Either they're not satisfied with their AA and are downplaying their involvement or didn't shoot any of them down and they simply crashed on their own.
It'd be a much bigger egg on the face for the US military if more than half of their cruise missiles just straight up failed in the air. That's memetic Russian-tier right there. I'd like to think they are downplaying their involvement because as impressive it may be on account of huge disadvantage in engagement geometries and sheer amount of ordinance, the defences still failed in the end. Which is ok, IMO, because SAMs are really the last line of defence when it comes to cruie missile saturation attacks- the vanguard of which are the MiG-31 interceptors ofc. It would be interesting if they bring those to Syria in light of recent developments.

Where did they bomb elements of Russian IADS? That'd be news. Can someone give me a quick rundown on the tomahawk situation? I keep reading that half didn't strike their targets, or were airburst? I didn't think tomahawks had an airburst function. I think I'm being shilled on.

Also doesn't Assad have point-defense CIWS systems like the Pantsir at his disposal? I'd think that slow non-stealthy tomahawks would be pretty easy for a system like that to down if they were defending that airbase.
>>
>>33567025
Russians claim only 23 hit their target.

US news reports 58 out of 59 hit.

US is known to have shot 2 missiles per target to ensure maximum target destruction.
>>
>>33567025
Based on pass successes, I believe the 58/59 number.
If only 30% 23/59 actually Worked, there would be a huge shit storm.

I work in aerospace, and if our parts had a 60% failure Rate, heads would roll.
>>
>>33567355
Pentagon reports a different number

60 Launched, 59 hit. 1 Failed midflight.
>>
>>33567355

I'm aware that 30% success is nonsense, in that they failed or just missed. Just wondering if they were possibly intercepted.

Using an S-300 on a tomahawk seems like a waste of resources though, hence why I asked about the Pantsir.
>>
>>33567400
Unlikely they were intercepted. If they did we would be hearing so much meowing about "muh air defenses, muh s300"

So far reports indicate a single S-300 system present and it was hit.
>>
>>33567400
Tomahawks fly NOE and too fast for ADA systems, generally.
>>
>>33563307
Well, they are non-stealthy subsonic tubes with stubby wings and a turbo-fan engine.
If they knew the approximate flight path, and with a bit of luck, they could hit them with any SHORAD / MANPAD System.
>>
>>33567025
>Also doesn't Assad have point-defense CIWS systems like the Pantsir at his disposal?
No, he does not. Russians do. Russians are 150 km away from that airfield.
>>
>>33563309
You realize that notifying them after the fucking missiles are launched is no different than them detecting them? The only reason that is even done (it's standard practice for situations like this genius) is because we don't want an escalation because they didn't know our objective
