i want to get an m1 carbine someday
i've been told it sucks by a few people
aside from the caliber being slightly less common, why is/isn't the m1 carbine a good gat?
>>
>>33551170
The things are a riot anon. 5 1/2 pounds of fun.

The worst thing about owning them is the ammo is too expensive.
>>
The carbine kicks ass, don't let anyone tell you different.

The only issues they have is that ammo is slightly harder to come by (cabelas has their Herters brand which isn't too expensive) and on some abused guns the extractor likes to start to walk out after a couple dozen mags
>>
>>33551195
That's the main thing I keep hearing too. I don't mind shilling out a few more bucks to own some classic gook-killing sex machinery though

Some anons also tell me that the carbines have mechanical problems, but I've never heard of this. Perhaps they were referring to auto-ordinance M1 Carbine replicas that have the shitty aftermarket mags that have feeding issues? Because even the AO M1's work fine with surplus mags, supposedly.
>>
>>33551170
The reproductions are crap.
Originals are neat though.
Some guy in this town just bought an original Winchester m1 carbine for $1000, I'm so jelly!
>>
>>33551210
There are parts failures here and there, as some of them have been used heavily. Nothing out of the ordinary though. Parts are readily available and the rifles are very easy to work on.

My carbine is actually a post-war Plainfield, which the "purists" love to shit on. It's assembled with leftover GI parts, shoots very well and was pretty inexpensive too. Pretty much the handiest little rifles ever.

They can be picky about magazines, in my experience, the old GI 15 rounders work the best. I have 2 new 30 round mags that have been working fine too.
>>
>>33551360
Good to know. I definitely see a lot of unissued parts for these rifles. I could probably assemble 80% of the entire rifle off eBay alone lol
>>
>>33551170
I like how they look, funky little guns, but videos of people shooting them look really boring
>>
>>33551170
I want one really badly, but it's just not worth over a grand to me.
>>
>>33551602
A grand?
They can typically be found for half that price if you're patent.
>>
>>33551569
Not too much else I can add. Some rifles don't like steel case. There isn't much variety in the ammunition or bullets available for reloading them either, if that's important to you. Maybe two types of 100 grain soft point that could be used for anything up to small deer and the standard 110 grain fmj. H110 is a good powder for .30 carbine.
>>
>>33551616
The reproductions everyone says are garbage?

I haven't seen one very cheap and the CMP's rifles are auctioning from 1500 to over 3 fucking grand.
>>
>>33551602
>>33551616
If you just want a shooter, get something like a plainfield. It's the collectors who drive up prices on the GI guns. I paid $150 for my plainfield, but that was in the early 2000's.
>>
>>33551170
sights and magazines are unreliable on originals apparently
someone link that inrange with the m1 carbine
>>
>>33551662
thanks friend, I will keep an eye out

Here's a pic of the Plainfield. Add a GI stock and a bayo lug and nobody will know the difference.
>>
>>33551729
that's hot
I'm no purist by any means
a carbine's a carbine, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting one
kinda like the look of the ones with postwar bayonet lugs - makes it look not sporterized, not that that's an issue, really

if you want a garand style rifle, how about mini-14?
it use more common 5.56mm, basically its an small M1A
>>
>>33551827
Wanting a carbine and getting a mini 14 is like wanting dr pepper and getting rc cola

I just don't find the mini 14 aesthetically pleasing as all
I'm sure it's a good gun, but it's just meh

I bought one for myself last week and have been *accessorizing*
I fucking love this little thing.
>>
>>33552404
I'm an Alaskan. They won't just toss that in the mail for me and the big box sgs charge more. My carbine doesn't care for steel case either.

I'm glad you guys get good deals though. I just reload everything.
>>
>>33552482
Sweet been' anon.
>>
>>33551195

Couldn't you get it taken to a gun smith to change that?
>>
>>33552573
You get welfare checks for living there though
>>
>>33552693
Yeah. The whooping $1000 last year really helped offset the ridiculous cost of living.
>>
>>33551195

Brass case 5.56= 30 cents a round
Brass Case .30 carbine= 32 cents a round
>>
>>33552745
Read the fucking thread nigger.

>look mom! I googled it again!
>>
>>33551210

Most carbines can be fixed with a new extractor and gi mags. For some reason my new korean mags came with the springs installed upside down. They would bind up pretty consistently before, but after that little fix, theyve ran great.

Move or stop bitching. Alaska also has one of the country's highest median wage.
