Laws vary state-to-state (I think OK protects from civil litigation in such a case)

Basically you can be cleared of wrongdoing in a shooting like this but the family/relatives of the guys you shot can still sue you for damages in civil court. Win or lose, you will still end up wasting year(s) of your life and tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars on lawyer fees and settlements.

It's a reason most CCW holders have CCW insurance, that's to protect from the inevitable civil litigation costs.

Mostly depends on state law and the judge and plaintiffs lawyer, then some on the actions of the defendant and how good a lawyer the defendant has. Usually people robbing a house are not doing so because they have a ton of money sitting around so they usually would have shitty lawyer for such cases. Very true. Personally I would hate to be in a position where I had to harm another human being because I was in fear of my life. I should be able to sue the estate of the robber/attacker for mental anguish I had to go through. Also partisan activist judges are the biggest crowd of assholes ever. You become a judge to equally dispense justice under the law, not make a point or stand for your parties political views.

I'm actually happy with that headline. They didn't call it an "assault weapon" or an "assault rifle" or a "military-style" something-or-other; they just named the rifle. Plain, factual language, without loaded emotional connotations, from a journo, in a headline!

Which is actually kind of a plus in this case. Headlines like "AR-15 USED IN HOME DEFENSE" make it ever so slightly harder to justify banning the rifle by name, like a lot of the current salt weapon bans do.

Once upon a time, I would have said "shotgun for home defense". That's why I bought 3 saiga's when they were 200 each. Youtube vids taught me about wall penetration and overpenetration. My neighbors were always a key factor in me considering home defense.

Since then, I've gone with an AR for home defense. I don't have to worry about murdering my neighbors to protect my family.
