I've never heard of T-34 armor falling off without the tank exploding. Got a source on that?

yeah, the road to berlin was littered with burned out t34's...so you are partially right anyway, OP.
>>
>>33552609
I mean, he's right.

Americans can bitch about ergonomics all they want but they didn't kill 80% of the Wehrmacht or capture Berlin.
>>
>>33552952
They also made sure their tanks worked sometimes instead of just setting the crew at the ene of the production line and yelling "GO CAPTURE BERLIN CYKA"

Which was an entirely voluntary choice by Eisenhower. Had he wanted it, Americans would have rolled into Berlin before the Soviets.

Weren't the ones that were "rolled out of the factories and onto battle" not even equipped with optics? The gunners had to literally aim down he barrel or just drive up really close before firing.

Whereas the truth is, the T-34/85 is a pretty decent tank for its time, typically made under less than ideal conditions and put into combat in less than ideal conditions. So it often broke down. But it was also simple to fix, too, which helped.

At the beginning of its life it was probably one of the best, if not the best, tank in the world (hint: it was designed in 1938 and produced in 1940). By the end of the war, its advantage came from numbers and all around capability; it wasn't so heavy it got bogged easily, it was tough enough that it didn't just aspode when someone pissed near it, it was easy to maintain, reliable enough, with a good enough gun.

Basically it's the epitome of "good enough".

It's the back of a tank, retard.
>>
>>33553103

Staring at this is making my head spin: it seems like the crack is opening and closing in the picture.
>>
>>33552952
They also didn't lose 40,000 T-34s on the road to Berlin. Based on Korean War evaluations, that could easily be 100,000 T-34 crew members lost.

If it were German, the T-34 would be regarded as a complete disaster

More like
>until Eighty Eight millimetres of ethnic cleansing crashed into it, turning it to a smouldering shitbox
>>
>>33554854
Well, naturally. The issue was partially with the tank (again, as I outlined, it was far from perfect) but more doctrinal issues.

The Soviets had "good enough" tanks, even great tanks at certain periods of time, the Germans just -- pound for pound -- fought so much better.

I don't think tyrannical governments give a shit about how many people they sacrifice in order to meet their goals.
>>
>>33548094
I read in 'Enemy at the Gates' that they would just send these off to battle without even painting them.

T-34 was indeed a complete disaster. For germans.

This is a picture of the back. If it was welded they wouldn't be able to get the engine out.
