>TFW turned 30 two months ago. >Former FMF corpsman out for 5 years and now have a shitty civvie job that pays pretty good bennies
>Still dream about Afghanistan but now when I wake up I'm sad I'm not there
>Spend all day fantasizing about going back
>Day dream about becoming a PMC but know I'd probably never be hired since I only have one combat deployment
>Wish Trump would start Iraq v.3.0 so that I could join some cowboy PMC outfit or even just reenlist with a guarantee of a deployment

Are my operating days over /k/? Any other older former military here want to go back?
>>
You at least got to operate
>tfw never got to join because of injuries from my dumb teenage years so was denied by every branch
>always dream of operating, something romantic about war
I...

>It's better to have operated and stopped than to have never operated at all.

Is that a PVS-10 on that M240? I'm pretty sure those aren't designed for machineguns.

I'm thinking of the whole PMC thing myself OP. Deploying is a part of who I am, even if it's only once every five or so years.

Deploying every three to five years sounds pretty comfy desu.

I joined the Marines as a Radio Operator never got to deploy. They stuck me in a Headquarters unit. I tried everything I could to get out of there and over to a line company or anywhere. I even tried to get into Force Recon and MARSOC but both of those were pulled with the unit "needing" me. I never went but I wouldn't mind going.
>>
>>33543694
I assume PMCs dont want you or something? Otherwise you could still go into oper8or mode and get paid a shit ton.

It depends on the state of the war, really. When there's a lot going on I feel like I should be contributing more. I've deployed to war 4 times in about 14 years.
>>
>>33543911
From what I've seen most PMCs only want you if you have more than two combat deployments and there is a preference for SF dudes. I only have one deployment and am only a humble grunt.
>>
>>33544345
I'd send out apps anyway. They do hire some more basic people just pull guard positions and hell, I dont know how many ex Docs they have, but I'm sure they could use them.

Goddamn America!

Joining and hoping to go FMF corpsman after I get my degree, any thing you wanna share. I'll gladly listen.
>>
>>33543885
Are you me?
>>
>>33543694
I turned 31 ten days ago Doc. I was an 0311. Yeah, part of me misses it. But that's what it's all about.

My wife's little brother and his friends are all joining. It's kind of funny they all look up to me. You go from being the young man to the salty old veteran.
>>
>>33546117
>Getting a degree

That's your first problem kiddo. But yeah a paramedic course would be cool if you want to go in with more knowledge than what you get from training but ultimately unnecessary to get the job. What you should work on is your fitness (running and body weight excercises) and once you're in pharmaceutical knowledge. If you're in a Marine unit chances are you won't have time to go to school by you can brush up on tactical medicine by reading Special Forces medical manuals. The Rangers have a really good one that's available on PDF online or at least it used to be.
>>
>>33543694
head over to Syria, join up with SDF and drink chai.
>>
>>33546250
The degree is more for when I get out and to give me time to get in shape, kind of a fat body. It's also free so why not.
>>
>>33546274
What's the degree in?
>>
>>33546379
Science, was going to Nursing school but I've changed my mind to this.
>>
>>33546421
Nursing would be more useful if you want to be corpsman but ideally paramedic would be best.
>>
>>33546429
I'm just going to get my associates and science then join up, anything else that would be helpful? I also appreciate then input.
>>
>>33546153
I don't think so. I was in Lejeune.
>>
>>33546458
Just the fitness like I said, also try to take up hiking and camping. You'll be doing a lot of it if your with a grunt unit and it's good to get a taste for it before hand.
>>
>>33546494
Thanks, and will do. loads of fitness based classes are on my repertoire.
>>
So
>generic hung up on my glory days general
>escapism edition

People do this all the time and it's in no way unique to Vets. More a matter of what the individual has going for them currently
>>
>>33546483
Haha. Pendleton is where it's at. Sunny California and liberal pussy. Not swamp duty.
>>
>>33546567
The pussy was pretty swampy in Lejeune. The only part of Cali I saw was 29 palms.
>>
>>33546530
Just be careful to avoid injuries. You'll get plenty of those when your in. And even though you'll be called a bitch for doing so document all and every injury. You'll be thanking yourself when you get that VA check years later.
>>
>>33546576
>29 Palms
I'm sorry dude...
>>
>>33546546
This. Don't get stuck on the glory days, OP. They should be fun to remember, of course, but don't lose yourself to that. You have many glorious days ahead of you as well, if you choose to make them such.
>>
>>33546576
29 palms. I wouldn't wish that on my enemies. But yeah I've been there. Mojave Viper.

I'm out now but I'm stuck in Ohio. Still trying to figure out which is worse.
>>
>>33546683
KY is worse friendo
>>
>>33546483
I too am in Lejeune.
>>
>>33543694
You might be in luck, Trump's rethinking his position on Assad in the wake of that chemical attack.
>>
>>33546748
>>33546769
I had a cousin that might be there. He went airborne. They might of moved him though.

Has the new gym they built been taken by the swamp they built it on?
>>
>>33546841
Wallace Creek? It's still there
>>
>>33546853
I had the joy of talking to one of the contractors working on it, he said it wasn't built in one of the best places.
>>
>>33543806
It's an older PAS-13
