What ammo would you shoot out of this if it was your girlfriend's first 'don't get raped at 5 yards pistol?

I was looking at segmented CCI, but I doubt they would cycle.
>>
>>33540251
I would never want to use an automatic .22 for self defense. You MIGHT have a (shitty) case for a revolver but never an automatic. Doubly so for a woman.
>>
If the segmented's don't cycle, I'd get Velociters or Stingers
>>
>>33540251
cci velocitors don't bother with stingers if you can't find velocitors, get 40 grain mini mags
>>
>>33540251
hollow points are a poor choice for a self defense 9mm. Just get a good FMJ since you'll need all the penetration you can get.

Enjoy the inevitable jam and failure to fire.

If she's concerned about recoil, get a Glock 42. It has similar recoil to a .22. Anything else will be snappy in a .380 unless you go large.
>>
I agree that your should never use a rimfire semiauto for self defense. If you have to use 22LR get a revolver. I own an SR22 as well and it's a great pistol for the range. Rimfire alone is unreliable and pair it with a semi and your asking for trouble

Sell that POS and get her a 9mm. NOWWWWWWWWWWWWw

>don't get raped at 5 yards pistol
>a .22 auto

You must mean "piss off her attacker and guarantee he kills her after he rapes her" pistol

No joke, that's a range toy. Get her a 9mm, or even P238 or something if she can't handle snappy recoil in small guns.

>because someone who's been shot is going to retain their mindset
>>
>>33543141
No, they become enraged, confused, and panicked. Perfect. You've changed someone's attitude from 'rapey' to 'fight or flight' yeah they might flee, but they also might beat you to death as they bleed out.

I'd honestly feel safer with mace and a knife than with a 22LR.
>>
>>33540262

Mother has one, she has terrible arthritis so she has difficulty racking anything larger than a 22, and double action triggers are too hard for her.

It's not a great argument but I don't have any other options she could use.
>>
Take her to the range until she is comfy with it, sell it, then pick up a Ruger 9e for $325-$350. The recoil isn't bad, the grip is decent for smaller hands, and (depending on your state of residence) it has a 17 round mag. Only issue is the safety and mag release, which new shooters may actually be more comfortable with. If you are worried about her being able to handle it, many ranges will let you rent guns. The SR9 is functionally identical to the S9e, and is widely available for rental at gun ranges.

Oh, not this bullshit again. Tell you what - let me shoot you with some .22lr and we'll see whether it makes you Hulk out or whether it just makes you scream for a doctor.

Aguila SSS 60gr. are supposed to feed and cycle in an SR22 while still getting 12" of penetration in ballistics gel. Some people have gotten keyholing at 25yd due to issues with a short barrel stabilizing a long heavy bullet.

Middle cartridges are the Aguila
>>
>>33540251
Velocitors and the 40gr Aguila equivelant. The energy charts show them beating the 32gr Stingers. These are literally the hottest 22lr you can find. No cycling issues, especially if she has a thumb touching the slide, etc. They feel like normal 22s, just more sound/flash.

.22LR has objectively insufficient penetration from a pistol, that's objective fact.

Nobody is saying it's not deadly or dangerous, the opposite, but most people shot with .22 pistols die slowly. You absolutely risk dying if I shoot you five times with a .22 pistol, but it's not immediate and you definitely have some fight left in you as the adrenaline kicks in, you can do a lot in just a minute, not to talk about several minutes. And we're not even getting into the lesser reliability of the cartridge.

From a rifle barrel, it's a bit of another story, a lot more speed makes a lot of difference.

You want a small handgun that's easy to control you look at a .38 Special snub with a metal frame, like a Ruger SP101, or optionally a .32ACP pistol with Underwood cavitators.
>>
>>33544562
Considering a .22 pistol wounds like an icepick stab, you just made my argument for me.

If it can't penetrate past 12" (and preferably through denim), it really shouldn't even be considered for carry.
>>
>>33540251
>What ammo would you shoot out of this if it was your girlfriend's first 'don't get raped at 5 yards pistol?

Depends if she has experience shooting, but you'd be better off with a 5/6-shot snub in at least .38.
>>
>>33540251
my money goes to CCI velocitors or stingers.
>>
22lr penetrates just fine out of a pistol. The problem is the hollowpoints will never expand. One of the problems at least, get a .380 instead of a watered down training gun.
