So I'm saving for a 1911 but I'm not sure what would be a good middle of the road version.

My brother has a Ruger 1911 and he really likes it and suggests it. Obviously a Wilson combat or Para ordnance out of my price range.

Why don't you just get a glock?

I have a TRP, and I love mine.

What's it for?

Sig GSR has always appealed to me as a railed 1911 fan. It won't fit in 1911 holsters though.

What is your budget?

Personally i have a commander length sr1911. Out of the box it was kinda tight and the trigger was surprisingly heavy. Occasionally the slide didn't want to go into battery all the way when dropped from the locked position. never caused any FTFs though. i attribute that mostly to a combination of grease on the rails and cold weather though desu. After a few hundred rounds though the trigger really lightened up(what feels like bout 6lbs to 4-4.5). So far it's been 100% reliable and more naturally accurate for me than any gun I've owned. would definitely recommend, but id probably keep it to oil only if it's gonna be used for anything serious but YMMV. They're also usually pretty easy to find used for 580-650.

Other than that I've read good things about the springfields. Used range officers in particular have a very nice value to quality ratio if you can get them for under 700 and retain their value pretty well. RIAs are pretty good but if i was gonna get one id shell out the whole whopping 600 bucks for one of their hand fit target guns. supposed to shoot about 1-2" at 25yrds and in general be good 1911s. can't think of anyone else with that kind of performance to dollar ratio.

Oh and give serious thought to going with 9mm instead of 45. the only thing that could make my 1911 more fun would be a flatter shooting cartridge that i can buy 50% more of on my shoe string ammo budget. the extra capacity wouldn't hurt either

Look in the lower left of the infographic.

I'd say a Springfield is a good bet.

Around $500

Same here. I have the stainless version. Only a few hundred rounds through it so far, but zero problems.

Just get any plain GI style 1911 then. Cimmaron, AO, Rock Island, whatever strikes your fancy. Stay away from anything with graphics, excessive slide markings, or any "upgrades" at that price range. Keep it stock, get it running 100%, and wait until you really know what you want before you add any accessories.

I had a SR1911 and couldn't get it to work reliably. Tried a few different mags, different lube and lots of different ammo. Always 2-3 fails per mag. Even sent it to Ruger who lied to me. They said they cleaned the extractor and it had no problems. It still failed after that. Took the extractor out and the channel was full of gunk. They lied. Even after cleaning it still failed. I guess I got a lemon.

This is my RIA GI that works 100% of the time and hits what I point at. Selling it because I'm going to just use 9mm pistols going forward.

Huh, my Kimber works fine.

$500 isn't a middle-of-the-road price range anon, it's a bottom-of-the-barrel price range. They almost don't come any cheaper than that.

$800-1,000 is middle of the road.

tl;dr Literally just sort-by-price, it makes no difference at that price.

I want a full rail TRP. The 1911 is one that I still haven't added to my arsenal. Eventually. I think I'd probably grab a RRA tactical for my first though.
