Kinda jelly, considering getting the Jorgon(?) ambi mag release or the troy one but I'm not sure I'll use it. I also have a strong distaste to putting a BAD lever on this rifle even though its probably the most useful aftermarket accessory I can think of. it will help take out the grittiness but that's it. i found it easier to simply polish it and not worry about beating up the receiver and bho.
get some jewelers rouge or other polishing compound and polish trigger/hammer interface, just don't go overboard, iirc the FCG is only surface hardened. when done, make sure all trace of the compound is removed and grease the interface with some thicker lube, white lithium grease or a heavy oil are fairly ideal for this application. you should also lube pin hole on the hammer and trigger and remove any of that sticky preservative oil that the parts came with if you haven't already done so.
there are plenty of instruction out there for modifying ar trigger/hammer springs but ideally you should splurge and buy something like this:

i like the enhanced reliability one. haven't had any issues with hard primers.
just doing those two things will go a long way toward economically improving the milspec trigger.

The rifle is fine, especially for $750. Lothar Walther barrels are considered some of the best. BCG might be overpriced, but Toolcraft BCGs (which are what Cryptic Coating BCGs are, just coated) are perfectly fine, and Toolcraft held the military contract for the longest time. The optic setup is meh, but the Aimpoint T2 is a great red dot, and the magnifier is one of the best if he's going to have one. Streamlights are good, cheap lights. I don't know why someone would pay three or four times as much for a similar Surefire if they're worried about the price, though it's odd because the owner of that rifle doesn't seem like someone who would be concerned with price.

It's a good deal but it's not worth all that much more. The AR market is flooded, the second hand AR market incredibly flooded. If you wanted a cheap 1/9 upper to sling 55gr and 62gr stuff down range with it's not a bad buy, but you'd struggle to make a worthwhile profit off it.

So it's hard to shoot at night, because it's dark. red dots can be IR compatible, but then it's a pain to line up your red dot and NV with cheek weld and proper shouldering. So people often purchase an IR laser, which you can see through your NVGs. Then you just point your laser at what you want to shoot (adjusting for distance, of course).

Is it needed? No. Does it make shooting at night with NVGs easier? Yes.

trying to find some good hollow points for my home defense AR, but it seems like most of it is sold out at various websites. Only thing in stock at sportsmans guide is Ultramax, Remshit and Steel cased garbage that I wouldn't even feed my rifle, let alone trust my life to. I live in a house with multiple roomates in a city so overpenetration is actually a huge concern. I want ammo that will hit the bad guy without going through 5 walls into the next house afterwards. Price isn't too much of a concern since I'll only be filling two mags with it and maybe need 10 or 15 more to make sure they feed well.

How bad of an idea would it be for me to load my AR with the PMC X-Tac 55 Gr FMJ that I plink with?

I want to switch to the AR for home defense because right now my Glock 19 is the only gun I keep loaded and if I'm not practicing with it constantly I am a terrible shot, add to it the stress of a home invasion plus me just waking up, I don't think it would be a very good HD weapon.

Why do all of these "gas busting" charging handles have ventilation prioritized on the top of the charging handle? The gas comes out from between the lower and underside of the charging handle.

I've tried them all with my suppressed 8" M16 with a pistol length gas tube, about as gassed as you can get. None of them worked half as well as this one I literally thew at the mill for five seconds.

Seriously, if you know anyone with a mill just have them do this to any charging handle.
