Ouch, /k/. Tough crowd. Of the 7 ratings/reviews I've gotten thus far on Amazon and Goodreads combined, my two lowest ones were from people on here who bought the paperback version of my book. I'm sorry you guys didn't like it, and I'm still trying to figure out how to touch bases with the first guy who asked me to try and contact him.

Hoping that dude who gave me the first 2-star review will spot this so we can discuss the book. I legitimately don't know how to contact him besides here on /k/; I can't even leave a comment on Amazon because you need to spend a certain amount of money there before you can do so, but I'm kind of fucked for cash right now. Not in the cool prostitute way, but like, the 'I have no money' way. So here's some iron sights for now. Feel free to contribute if you like. I have WAY more where this came from.

I'm J N Morgan. I've done a couple promotions where I gave books away for free, also a few /k/ommandos bought paperbacks of the novel in my first post. So far they've left two reviews on Amazon, both 2-stars, the 2nd one pretty scathing but it is their fair opinion and point of view after all, and the 1st one was a bit gentler about his dislike of it. Wants me to get in touch with him, which I'm trying to do. He can keep the review, that's fine, and if he really doesn't want to finish my book then that's very unfortunate but that's ok too, however I'd like to apologize to him and perhaps hear in more detail why he didn't like it as well as give my take on why the sex is more than simply some soulless smut that doesn't have anything to do with the story. He didn't even get to chapter three so it's understandable that he'd think it came completely from left field and was just something put in for fun; he doesn't know how things will progress.

Anyways, just hoping to have some dialogue with him. Best case scenario is I can talk to both of them even though the second probably wouldn't have much good to say about me nor wish to give any further consideration to my book. To each their own I suppose.

I'll be doing another promotion around the end of the month, probably April 26th but it's not set in stone yet. My first four books will be free for a couple days, the sequel to LatD (Living amongst the Dead: Dark Days) will be at a discount, and I'll likely have a third LatD book out by then.

P.S. The cat is perfectly fine.

>book about a Zombie apocalypse

The zombie genre is a deceased nag, flogged to a gluey pulp. While I'm an avid reader, the last book I'd ever consider reading is some bullshit unimaginative repetitive dreck that was self-published by a tard that was 10 years late to the game.

Thanks for the bump, and all good. To each their own, but there seems to still be a market for zombie 'literature' if you can call it that. I regularly get sales and KENP/KU page reads. Granted I haven't gotten any sales so far today, but I had them for 9 consecutive days in a row.

As for unimaginative, I suppose you could view it like that. I focus on realism and survivalism, so there's no big twist. It's not like the zombies can fly, or can be turned back into people, or controlled by a zombie overlord, or anything like that. There are real aspects of survivalism, it touches on the cancer that is SJWs and 3rd wave feminists, etc. I'm not inventing the wheel; I've wanted to write a zombie novel for literally years, over half a decade. Finally did it, had fun doing it, did it again, getting lots of support and also the sales are slowly but steadily increasing (even though as mentioned this is kind of a slow day), so I'm working on a third in the LatD series. About 9000 words in.

Anyways, like I said; to each their own. You can still get it for free in almost a month's time if you want.

never heard of this/you but you have my respect for actually getting something published.
That said, why would you want to write about something as boring and undynamic as the undead? follow up, what kind of zombies are we talking here, 28days infected, voodoo supernatural zombies, or generic .mil bio-weapon gone wrong?

what writers would you say you drew style influence from?

>over half a decade
so about the time the walking dead aired on TV?

>Respect
Thanks! I have to admit, I'm proud of myself for having finally buckled down and wrote the book I've wanted to write for years!

>Why the undead?
I've always been fascinated by zombies, or at least since around 2003 or so when I discovered the remake of Dawn of the Dead with running zombies, but then found my true love of the undead with George A Romero's 'of the Dead' series.

>What kind of zombies?
Romero-style, before the little changes that Walking Dead made. Shambling, decaying, moaning, typically with arms outstretched, destroy the brain to fully neutralize, severing the spine can leave them immobile but can still bite typically if you bring a part of your body to their face. They don't 'smell' the living because their noses are decomposing and all they can smell is dead tissue. They don't lustfully lick at blood.

>Influence?
George A. Romero, obviously. He actually INVENTED what lead to the modern day 'zombie' as we know them. Essentially, before him, zombies were voodoo/supernatural things. His 1968 movie Night of the Living Dead, black and white, was the first step towards what we now see in Walking Dead. In fact, Greg Nicotero worked with Romero on at least one of his movies, maybe a few, and now he is working on the Walking Dead show, even directing some episodes. Directed one recently, I think the one before last or three episodes back.

>About the time that Walking Dead aired on TV?
No, it predates that.

Oh yeah, also, I worshipped Max Brooks' "Zombie Survival guide" in my mid-teens. Would bring it to school with me 'just incase' but also because I enjoyed flipping through it. I didn't agree with EVERYTHING in there, I still don't, but there are a lot of interesting tips and tricks. But no, Walking Dead did not influence my desire to write a book in any way, however I do enjoy the show and it does now inspire me to a degree. It just wasn't the source of why I wanted to write about surviving the zombie apocalypse. Also, fuck katanas

I think zombies are dumb as fuck but it's cool that there's an author on /k/ that actually produced something instead of just making question threads and never finishing their work or never showing us.

Any chucklefuck can self-publish on amazon, it's not an accomplishment.

Thanks! I understand that zombies aren't for everyone, and that's fine. I didn't write my book for everyone to like, I wrote it for me, but it just so happens that a fair number of other people are interested enough to buy it. So far, based on my reviews, most people find it to be alright or even really good. One guy even told me that he's put me up alongside Stephen King and the guy who writes a 'Hunter' series or some such thing, in that he will buy whatever the Hell I write pretty much no matter what it's about, as soon as I finish it. Awesome dude, and we swap emails just about daily. I get a lot of motivation from that guy. He has a blog that I put in the Dedication/Acknowledgement section of a couple of my books, very /k/-related; all about survivalism and also includes firearms to a degree. Though /k/ might not entirely agree with some of his views/beliefs.

bisonprepper.blogspot.ca

If you're interested. I've written a few guest articles there. Anyways, I do promotions regularly, my next one will be around the end of the month. I think I've already mentioned it, but yeah, most of my books will be free on Kindle for a while, the LatD sequel Living amongst the Dead: Dark Days will be on a discount, and I'll probably have a third LatD book out by then. Already 9000 words into it.

I also dedicated pic related to /k/. Somewhat post-apocalyptic, but no zombies, and lots of gun porn. Also very short; a novelette (real term) with just 16,500 words. $4.99USD for paperback and $0.99USD for Kindle/eReader. It will be free during my promotion which will probably be on April 26-27 so you can get it free then if you want. If you do end up getting it, whether paid or free, I hope you enjoy it! Even has a Russian character that the protagonist calls Ivan but he doesn't act entirely like /k/'s Ivan. He does mention "shit where you eat" when the subject of the AR design comes up though lol Spoiler alert, but he calls his primary firearm 'Val'. Kinda obvious.

... he's not wrong, sadly. All you really need to give is some banking info so they can do your tax stuff so as to legitimately pay you, though there's probably an option to publish it for public use/for free and wouldn't require any banking info at all. Truly is a simple process to be self-published however, can be done entirely for free though would require a lot of writing skill from the author unless they want to put out something riddled with grammatical issues. Still, it's getting some sales, I'm getting some fans, and I've not gotten any complaints in reviews in terms of grammatical issues so I'd say I must be at least doing SOMETHING right.

I thoroughly believe it's inevitable that I'll get traditionally published someday, but self-publishing is a very legitimate way for a new author to get a start, and it's most definitely providing me with a start. Most self-published authors don't even make $100 in their first year, but I've only been self-published for less than 5.5 months yet I've already earned over $50CDN. Over $40 of that was in the month of March alone when things really started to ramp up. Sales continue to slowly but steadily increase, and I anticipate over $60 in the month of April. I know, it probably doesn't sound like much, but keep in mind that writing costs me nothing and I legitimately enjoy it just about as much as playing videogames. It's like I'm being PAID to play videogames. Not much yet, but I will continue to write, continue to self-publish, and I think I can be a fulltime writer within 1-2 years.

It's an amazing feeling, anon. It truly, truly is.

Zombie survival guide is satire, pal. There's a reason it's always listed as a humor/comedy book in stores. If you watch interviews with Max Brooks or his survival "demonstrations" it becomes a lot more apparent. Like that one time he was giving a talk at a college about preparedness and said a katana was the best existing weapon and proceeded to give a 5 minute crash course on how to use one.

I understand it's classed as humour/comedy, but I enjoyed it none the less, though like I said I didn't agree with all of it. I hate those katana fanboys, well almost any sort of fanboy can be annoying. Spouting their favoured item as God's gift to the world while all else plays second fiddle. Carrying around a katana is no different than carrying around a European longsword; you'd look silly with either. Ultimately, I believe the best melee weapon you could have in a zombie apocalypse situation is a bayonet, preferably one that can be used in-hand as well as at the end of your rifle. Unlike the M91/30 or No.4 Lee Enfield's socket-style bayonet; those aren't particularly handy unless fixed to your firearm.

LatD features quite a lot of bayonet action, thus far in all three books though I'm still working on number three. Don't know what the title will be yet, but I've got about 9500 words finished, which means I've written 3000 words today. Not bad, but I'm still getting over a flu so I'm not at my best right now. Though I always intended to write sequels for LatD I never really planned this far ahead so I'm slowing down a bit as ideas aren't as forthcoming as I'd like. Still, I'm throwing in a fair few little nuggets of survivalist info that can be handy as well as the occasional situation that must be dealt with. Continuing to expand on the character development, got some tension going on with one of the characters. I feel like I want to throw in something big soon, but I don't yet know what. Very interesting being a 'discovery writer' instead of an 'outline writer'; I just write as I come up with ideas, and sometimes even I get surprised at what develops in the story. I mean, who could have expected Timothy had always wanted to be Tabatha?

Joking, of course. That's not happening until the fourth book.

... still joking... I hope that fellow who gave that first review for a paperback finds this thread soon. This is the second one I've made.
