So I plan on buying only 1 rifle and maybe a shotgun or a handgun.

So I plan on buying only 1 rifle and maybe a shotgun or a handgun.

What rifle should I get? I am trying to decide between

>FAL
>M16A1 clone
>M16A2 clone
>Light weight 16 inch AR-15

The other options seem better and more economical, but the FAL is a FAL. How bad is the price of .308 and will it ever drop? Does anyone still make good forged receiver FALs and can you shoot steel through a FAL or only brass?
>>
>>33509646
>only 1

but why
>>
>>33509729
Autism mostly. And because really it is just a range toy so I don't see the point of having multiple range toys all in different ammo
>>
get an AR15 with a flat top, then you can use GDI mounts to switch between a scope and red dot as needed
>>
>>33509743
different calibers and actions is the entire point of range toys

Fal and benelli m2

>>33509909
I was thinking of a mossberg 500 either the home and field or the mariner version
>>
>>33510531
Eh, get a 590
>>
>>33510557
Don't they weigh more? I just want the 5+1 model
>>
FAL and Auto 5
>>
>>33509646
>>Light weight 16 inch AR-15
Here is your option.

603 clone would be cool, too, but parts kits are hard to find and so are decent 20" 1/12" twist correct profile barrels.

645 is shit, the FAL is lackluster.
>>
.308 is about 35 cents to $1 a round, depending on what you buy. Steel case is on the lower end, between 30-50 cents per round. If I bought a gun just for the range, I would probably go with an AR for more cost effective ammunition.

Just fucking no... that fal looks like it wants to die

>>33510858
590 is going to be more reliable. I have a 500, 590, 930, and m2. 590 is solid while the 500 literally rattles

why the tape on your pistol?

so for looks? i don't get it

That and (you)s. I'm considering getting a Zenit pistol light just to slav it up a bit more
>>

Sorry bro.. but hey your tables tile is the same as my bathrooms!
>>
>>33511086
Yea but I'd have to get the stock pinned and shit cause I live in the DPRNJ and I would really only get a caliber other than .223 or x39 if I really liked the gun and the Scar 17 looks meh
>>
Oh and if I get a handgun should I get a S&W model 10 or a XDS in 9mm?
>>
>>33511434
Save your money and move.
>>
>>33511478
Can't at least not yet. Physical science teacher, christie made a law that we can't live out of state. I also need to do 3 years to get my full bird cert cause I was alt route. Once I am fully certified I'd be able to move to somewhere where I get a better ratio of pay to cost of living
>>
>>33511533
Put money into handguns. You'll only have time to buy a couple while you're there but you won't really have to neuter them.

Or you could do bolt action rifles.
>>
>>33511549
I won't have to neuter a fal or an AR. Literally all I would need to do to the FAL is get a different muzzle device welded on. AR I'd just need one without a bayonet lug and without a muzzle break welded on.

Only real pain in the dick are the mags.
>>
>>33511587
Bro.. an fal will cover all your needs/wants plus theyre only getting more expensive vs ar's getting cheaper. I own about 70 firearms, if i had to go down to 3:
>benelli m2
>mk25
>fal or m1a
>>
Since you plan on using it only as a range toy I would lean more toward the fal, ignoring the issue of ammo cost, because:

>7.62 is more fun to shoot
>tilting bolt is bad for accuracy but sounds awesome when racked
>a1 parts kits have been overpriced for years. I paid $200 less than what they go for now and felt like it was too much
>fals are going up in value and everyone and their grandma has an ar at this point

However don't shoot steel case through a FAL so if ammo cost or just cost in general is an issue you would be better off going with the a2 or 16 inch. The a1 clone would run about 1,200-1,400 depending on what tools you have to buy to put it together and look forward to a 4-6 month wait for a NDS a1 lower. The a1 looks cool and will turn heads at the range if you are into that kind of thing. The 16 inch flat top is the most "practical" for shtf or whatever but shit won't ever hit the fan, the FAL would be more than adequate even if it did and you will end up on a path of tactiqueering the ar out.

t. I have an a1 clone and a l1a1.

Ignore >>33509779 flat tops are boring, carry handles are love.

>>33512179
I actually hate you as a person for this post.

>300 imbel kit
>entreprise cast receiver

Not ideal receiver but it works
>>
Does DS Arms make forged receiver FALs or do I need to buy used/a parts kit?
>>
>>33511053
The rattle in the 500 doesnt make it less reliable.
>>
>>33512209
<3 you too baby.
>>
>>33512217
Dont you need a variety of fal specific tools to put it all together properly?
>>
>>33512223
Don't buy DSA shit unless you live in NJ like OP.
>>
>>33512223
the SA58 are hammer forged
>>
>>33512269
Why is DSA ok for NJ?
>>
>>33512265
A vice, and reciever wrench... i just need to headspace my build. Total cost was 700
>>
>>33512277
Because then when you have to destroy it to make it legal in your shitstate of "smart guns" no one will care.
>>
>>33512233
No, but it definitely makes it feel like shit. Its a shotgun someone can borrow if i feel like they may fuck up my more expensive shit
>>
>>33512291
All anyone needs to do to make a FAL legal in NJ is weld a muzzle break to the barrel
>>
>>33509646
While I have a personal preference for the FAL for most people the 16 inch AR is probably the most versatile option.
>>
>>33512317
Exactly.

>>33512317

>>
>>33509646
Ifor it's just a range toy
>16in basic flat top ar15

You can shoot it more, and put stupid shit on it. And if you later want more guns you dint spend 1.3-2k on a decent FAL. Also .308 brass right now is like 40cents per round.
>>
OP, go for the FAL, it'll actually hold value and, if you ever need cash, you can sell it off for more than you paid (I guarantee it). However, do NOT shoot steel case. I have an SAR-48, and when I tried to shoot steel cased, it would not cycle at all, and would instead push the bolt back a bit and then jam the case back into the chamber. You will have to buy brass, which is sitting at about 50 cents a round right now for the cheapest stuff, so you won't be shooting as much as an AR. Guns should be considered an investment, and the FAL is a solid investment since there really won't be any more to hit the market once DSA dries up.
>>
>>33512538
I guess I can always get a FAL and something like a CZ 527 or a Henry Big boy.

I am also less concerned with upfront cost and more with ammo prices. Does it look like the cost of .308 will ever drop?

>>33512611
Well, it's been dropping, I remember paying 63 cents a round last time I got my ammo, and nearly sold my FAL when it was $1 per round a few years back. Ammo prices are universally going down, but I wouldn't expect 7.62 NATO to be as cheap as 5.56 is, so it's up to you whether you want more bang for your buck (literally) while having a generic gun that you won't get your money back on, or a larger rifle that you'll shoot a little less but be able to brag about and sell for more than you got it (and offset the cost of whatever you shot out of it, assuming your round count isn't high). This is what I thought of when I bought my FAL, and while it would've been nice to shoot that 30 cent steel cased, at the end of the day... see pic
>>
>>33512672
Yea in all manners the ARs seem more practical. Especially when I have no idea where to get legal mags for a FAL, but I spend all of the siege of Jadotsville with a boner
>>
>>33509646
Honestly if you're only going to own one rifle it should be a 16 inch AR, as boring of an option as that may be.
>>
>>33510865
Don't listen to that other faggot, as long as you didn't butcher an L1A1 or something similarly cool and aesthetic your rifle is fine.
>>
>>33512757
Legal? Do you mean that you live in a state that caps out at 10 rounds? They are out there, never had to bother since I got my surplus mags at a gun show. Practicality is subjective, but depending upon the cost of the FAL, it'll cost you about the same as getting a .308 AR-10, or maybe a bit more. I got my SAR48 for 600 and it came with a rail mount, so I didn't exactly spend as much as most FAL owners did for their package
>>
>>33511434
>New Jersey
That changes literally everything, get an A2, you'd have to do the least amount of neutering.
>>
>>33511867
New Jersey is 15 rounds.
>>
>>33512821
Same amount of neutering for an A2 and FAL. Actually a little more for the A2. A2 you need to mill off the bayonet lug and pin a muzzle break.

FAL's put their lug on their flash hider so just replace the flash hider with a pinned muzzle break.

>>33512810
There is a 15 round limit for mags now, I've just seen more options for 10 and 15 round AR mags than FAL mags. And I'd be fine with spending $1,500-1,800 on a rifle either way. More concerned with the price of ammo than with the one time price of buying the rifle
>>
>>33512883
Yeah, in a state like yours, it does seem like you'd be able to retain law compliance with the AR platform more easily than the FAL. Sorry to hear that you live in Jersey, man, my thoughts and prayers are with you
>>
>>33512900
Worst part is we are probably getting a Dem governor in november which means the legislature is going to fuck us in the face unless the SCOTUS rules on AWBs. Allegedly they are going to soon and that is why there is such a huge fight over meril cuck and Gorchich
>>
>>33509646
If I were you OP, for your handgun and scatterfgat I'd get
>Browning Hi Power
+ max aesthetics
+ max ergos
+ legal flush fitting magazines
+ incredibly cheap ammo
+ slim enough to CC in a pinch
+- Single action
- pretty expensive

>Beretta 1100 or Mossberg 590a1

Beretta
+ has a perfect LOP for a defensive shooting stance
+ semi-automatic
+ reliable as fuck
-+ decently aesthetic
- expensive as fuck (compared to a pump action)
+ Cheap as fuck (compared to a Benelli)

Mossberg
- Trench gun aesthetics (especially if you buy a wood stock and cob foreend)
- Bayonet lug
- ludicrously overbuilt
- stupid reliable
- will be one of the last things the grabbers ban
>>
>>33512950
>+ max ergos
Haha, no. Shit trigger, shit safeties.
>>
>>33512950
>>33513227
If I get a pistol it will either be a .38 revolver and or a subcompact 9mm
>>
>>33513259
590a1. G43. Fal
>>
>>33513683
Do they still sell the 18.5 inch 6 round 590s?
>>
>>33509646
AKs and FALs are more fun to shoot.
ARs are cheaper.

Take your pick.
Fun, or cheap (in terms of gun price not ammo price; 7.62x39 is almost always 2 or 3 cents cheaper per round than 5.56)
>>
>>33513968
Fuck if i know, i have the .mil edition that i bought long ago
