Which of these is a better deal, and M and P shield for $420 byt has a $75 mail in rebate to make it $350 or a springfield XD essential for $440 with 4 extra magazines with purchase? a rock island island arms m206 .38 special for about $250?
You shouldn't spend more than $375 on a new 9mm Shield, rebate or not. Also, don't rely on rebates for good deals. Being out $75 for 4 months is a bitch and not worth it. Lurk moar for a better shield deal. As for the old XD, that's an alright deal I guess.

The rebate is a mfg rebate, so it should be available wherever you buy the shield, so print the form, make sure it didn't specify vendor or an oddball sku, then go but the shield for a lower price elsewhere.
XDs are sub par.
Cheap shit .38 snubbies are cheap shit snubbies. Don't know them, I'm not interested in them.

ya i need to start lurking in this sub more for sure, i just became aware of it But im basically in the market now for a very affordable but decent quality hand gun. Also i should mention I live in CA so i think fire arms prices are a little bit higher here than any other state.
If you live in Ohio, you can't beat this deal on a shield:

Wasn't there a deal somewhere for the M&P for like $299+ the $75 rebate? It ends up being like $240 shipped.

damn i guess i really do need to lurk more, so i can have it shipped to Cali, but would just have to pick it up a a fire arms dealer. Do they charge a fee for doing it?
Ordered this earlier today. $319.99, after rebate $244.99. https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/147435/10035/smith-and-wesson-mp9-shield-9mm-pistol-no-thumb-safety

They are both great starter pistols. An XD9 was my first handgun purchase and I loved the thing. Reliable, great trigger, accurate, and good size. The Shield is all of these but it is a sub compact so keep that in mind. If you could only have one handgun for an extended period of time I would get the shield.
As for price again, even for CA the shield seems a little to high. S&W and dealers are trying to dump the fuck out of these things so they can release their 9mm and .40 2.0 version. Wouldn't spend more than $400 when all is said and done.

I was just about to post how we have a better deal, and then somebody does it for me.
