For stance, keep your knees slightly bent, you want to lean into it a little bit, this should basically push your ass out. You should be able to have someone push the muzzle of your gun straight back and you should be able to keep your balance. Aside from that, your feet should both be facing the target about shoulder width apart even with each other, not one in front of the other.

bend your knees and lean into the gun. a basic pugilist footing is what you want to have ie body turned and positioned such that you cant easily be pushed over

It's a common stance and it will work, but if you're looking to practice something effective for competition or self defense down the line, I'd practice the isosceles stance.
