SAR4800s in 5.56. can be found for 1-2K. The main difference for the MD series is they used a rotatin bolt, since the prototype using a tilting bolt found it unfeasible for the weight. Noreen's ARs are fucking expensive, including their magazines, so I'm thinking for their price they have t be pretty well made to be still in business. It's also one of your few options for a .30-06 "tactical rifle" (and is better than the BAR abomination)

Cheap 7.62x39mm ARs are generally not strongly made, only ones made on AR10 sized receivers are any good, and they're pretty expensive, however these rifles are competing not only with AKs, it's competing with regular AR15s with .300BLK barrels.

Of course, you could also easily argue that there's little point in a .30-06 AR when .308 is close enough (and the same company makes a .338 variant)
