I'm 18 and considering joining the us Marines. Advice from any military fags before talking to my local recruiter?
>>
Head over to /MEG/ bud, they'll help you out more there.
>>
>>33482014
They are going to ask a lot of questions about your medical and psychological history.

Even the smallest thing can disqualify you from service, although they can't really look at your history without permission, if you try to hide something from them and they find it you will be disqualified from service.

t. 18 year old and just talked to a recruiter yesterday.

Do something else instead. Go to college, go to trade school, learn how to do something and get a marketable skill.
>>
>>33482077
Uncle sam will pay for college up to 10 years after service thanks to the post 9/11 GI bill.
>>
>>33482077
Seconded. Or at least enlist for the minimum amount of time possible. Sure, you won't get a slightly higher rank, but that'll only give you maybe $3k over your short career.
And guess what, you can still use the GI bill for free education, get 6 years free VA healthcare, get disability (if you get disabled somehow), and get lots of vets benefits.
>>
>>33482089
Yeah and then you'll be 24-25 competing with 20 year olds or 25 year olds with degrees AND experience. As someone who has done that, take my advice; Go to school.
>>
>>33482089
It's 15 years for post 9/11, 10 for mgib.

>>33482077
Do this or if you decide to enlist, go into another branch with actual living standards.
>>

26 year old vet taking his first college courses with the GI Bill here. Every single other student in all of my classes is stupid, and I am worlds ahead of them getting straight A's in what they consider "hard classes."
And when I graduate I'll be a 29 year old vet who graduated top of my class going up against 25 year olds who skated by.

don't do it
just don't
>>
Why? Being in the military blows
>>
>>33482494

No offense, but if that's actually true then you are probably in a easy major/degree mill type state school.

I'm a 24 yr old vet at a pretty top tier public school. While I'm certainly more self disciplined and have more life experience than my 18-21 year old peers, these kids aren't dummies by any means and are working aggressively towards building their futures. Way more aggressively than I was at 19 in the army anyways...

This. There are cool skills that go with military service and many benefits. To a certain extent you only need 3 years of service for either one of them. You can be a 21 year old debt free college student using your time in the marines to fuck dumb sorority girls or you can stay in till you're 30 get divorced twice and develop a drinking problem. It's your choice
>>
>>33482089
>Uncle sam will pay for college up to 10 years after service

They will also pay off your student debt up to $20,000 upon enlisting.

So your best route is to get a Bachelors degree, enter OCS, or find a direct commision role and start off with better pay and your choice of education.

For me, it's all about what you get back, since you are basically signing away your life, and valor isn't enough to cover the bill.
>>
>>33482065
This, I was an army fag though.

Nevertheless
>you have never had a cold or flu
>you have never even skinned your knee
>you have been happy every day of your life
>your family's health is unrealistically perfect

The best way of getting into to the service/past meps is very simple, no.

No means you go forward, you answer yes to any of that shit, you are creating obstacles for yourself.

Unless it is something that will show in examination, or more importantly will fuck you/the guys you serve with in theater when SHTF.

Be smart, know what are actual medical limitations you may have, and what isn't. The docs there don't care about your life story, unless you give them reason to.

Less is more.

Good luck OP.

>before joining
Have fun wasting your degree so some faggot with a GED and 4 years younger than you is above you for no reason other than he could suck a mean dick
>>
>>33482014

Friend did his 20 years in the NAVY as a combat photographer (Mass Communications Specialist)

He was attached to serious operators a good many times. Earned alot of hazard duty monies, and got to see for realz what the high speed types do without having to endure or even qualify for that training.

Plus that MOS means you end up able to do serious leadership shit, and very civie friendly skills.

MY point is: think outside the box. Not every POG is a fucking cook or supply line faggot

Don't

>GED and 4 years younger than you is above you for no reason

So a faggot with a GED is getting commissioned all the time now? No.

Also, you got a free education, and dont have to deal with the GI BIll bullshit. Its completed and the loans are paid off, no progress reports and red tape.
>>
Go to the Army guy and ask to be a warrant officer pilot instead.

failing that. go to the coast guard.

no point in doing anything else until we aren't fighting wars in the middle east for the Israelis and House of Saud.

So a faggot with a bachelor's degree is getting commissioned all the time now? No.

Shouldn't you be trying to bribe some kid with free red lobster and longhorn steakhouse dinners right now?

Actually, yes. While possessing a college degree doesn't always guarantee an officer's commission, you have to have at least a bachelor's degree to qualify for OCS (unless you're in the green to gold program). The exceptions are graduates of rarified fields like medicine, law, or most physical sciences who generally enlist with direct commissions, and college students who completed ROTC training (sometimes). College grads can also directly apply for OCS at the recruiters office. If you decide to go in as a private soldier, a bachelor's lets you start as an e-4 (unless my memory fails me ).
