Remember that Remington has spent nearly 60 years covering up the fact that the Remington 700's trigger is prone to accidental discharges.

http://sc.cnbcfm.com/applications/cnbc.com/resources/editorialfiles/2012/05/03/2226703_Rem_Doc_02.pdf

>But as early as December 3, 1946, with the gun still in the testing stage, lead engineer Merle “Mike” Walker—who would later receive a patent for the 700 series’ firing mechanism—wrote a memowarning of a “theoretical unsafe condition” involving the gun’s safety; the mechanism that is supposed to keep the gun from firing accidentally.

>Four months later, in an April 9, 1947 memo entitled “M/721 Pilot Line Inspection,”Test Engineer Wayne Leek wrote, “This situation can be very dangerous from a safety and functional point of view.”

>Among other things, Leek noted, it was “possible to fire the gun by pushing the safety to the ‘off’ position.”

Remington's latest failures with the R51 and RP9 are just continuing the tradition of Remshit.

Didn't the accidental discharge kill rancher's kid?
>>
>>33478755
probably killed the rancher's dog too
>>
>>33478755

Remington denying it for all that time spread across millions of rifles means that there are a large amount of accidental discharges that weren't reported.
>>
>>33478755
everyone in those stories are fucking morons.

Im not saying that Remington couldnt possibly be at fault but that it was most likely negligence.

>>33478743
im pretty sure remington just fired a bunch of its higher ups.
>>
>>33478743
I don't care what anyone says about Remington, the 870 is still the best pump shotgun ever.
>>
>>33478854
Have you ever used a banelli nova or super nova? It makes the 870 look fucking stupid at the same price point, in my opinion

wrong again, fucko
>>
>>33478876
I don't like that it only has one guide rib for the pump.
>>
>>33478873
Have I? No, but I like the 870 enough to where I'm not even really curious about other pumps.

>Be me
>have a Remshit brand dog leash
>After about 3 months The lease locking tab snapped

MFW they can't even make a fucking dog leash
MFW never remshit anything ever again
>>
>>33478770
Your confusing Remshit for ATF there kiddo
>>
Wasn't there a like 30 minute video that investigated the whole issue and found that there was no fault?
And they couldn't reproduce it?
>>
Savage makes better out of the box bolt-action rifles than Remington does.

I have had a lot of trouble with my Nova. It cuts the shit out of my shells and they get jammed 80% of the way in the chamber unless I cycle REAL slow. I use it for trap shooting, so I'm loading one at a time anyway, but when I took it out for a shoot at the local range, it was a major pain in the ass.

The remshit was garbage the day the Winchester 1897 came out, and double garbage since the 1912
>>
>>33479107
Fact. Savage guns are great.
>>
>>33479219
The 870 is newer than both. Think it came out in 1952.

I know how the Model 12 is legendary, but I just don't like how it feels. I don't like winchester in general.
>>
>>33479187
Nuts. I've had both a nova and a super nova. I'd say the extra hundred is worth the super nova, but I never had issues with my nova. You ever ask banelli about it? Maybe yours got a fucked up chamber. Either that or your shells are too long. But since you said you used it for trap, I can't imagine you're using the 3 1/2 inch shells the nova isn't chambered for. Do you have the 20 or the 12?

Anyway I like the solid construction over comparably priced pumps and the ergonomics make it comfortable for long days at the trap range. I enjoy it when I'm in a game with the club members using their several thousands of dollars trap gun and I consistently equal their score.
>>
>>33479020
That's cool. But if you've not really tried others I don't think it's reasonable to have an opinion on what's the best.

And now we're stuck with a bunch of Turkish crap with Winchester branding. Thanks, FN.
I've shot some old-ass semi-auto Winchesters and they were fun but unreliable.
>>
>>33479590
Agreed. The only two remmingtons I own are a 550-1 (old as fuck .22) and a police trade in 870.

Oh man, if you find any CCI Quiet-22?
Next. Fucking. Level. Of fun.
It will totally cycle them, and it's quieter than a pellet rifle. I shoot in my backyard all the time.

Mossberg is just a cheaply made knock off of the Remington 870

I run those in my Montgomery Ward. They are, in fact, the tits.

>>33478755
Why the fuck was the rancher pointing a loaded weapon at his kid? The rancher still killed his own kid.
>>
>>33481036
I've been meaning to get a box to compare them to shorts. Shorts are a bitch to find without ordering them, but my LGS has CCI quiets.

>>33478818
its not neglegence. i own a .308 Rem 788 and it had this problem, something about the way it was designed was fucky and remington never said a word about it. it was my fathers gun and it fired all by itself, saftey on, everything. almost killd my granfather (by heart attack or otherwise). since then ive replaced the trigger mechanisims. no problems now. but it did happen and Remington knows it

Read the thread I guess. Releasing a product that you know is unsafe to save money isn't exactly a new thing for a company to do, but it's still pretty shitty. Also, basically everything they make now has totally shit quality control and they started chewing out on materials too
>>

I have a rem 721 from 1946

If I shoot something expensive can I sue?

that's why the 500 was the only shotgun to pass the U.S. Army's Mil-Spec 3443E test
>>
>>33484514
The 500 was the only shotgun to participate.
870s and Berettas were previously issued and continued to be issued. Mossberg had to pass the testing to try and show they were just as cpable.
