Is that the old exploding round mid air grenade lawn chair?

Holy shit, I thought this was a fictional gun that they made up for 007 nightfire. At least that's where I remember it from.

I used to drool over these when they showed up in articles in magazines
Thought they were just the coolest fucking things ever
Attached is the image I felt I saw the most in these OICW articles

Australians had a version too which didn't have much success either
Chinese recently took a dip into OICW land, with a bolt action grenade launch rather than a magazine fed semi-auto
And how can we forget the French monsters...

IMHO it was in this milieu that the FN F2000 was designed - as a "budget" gun to appeal to what they saw as growing demand for OICW-type weapons, the premiere feature of it was a high tech grenade launcher targeting system

Well, it spawned the XM25 which is legitimately a game-changer if you can figure out a way to mass-produce the ammo and keep retarded Aberdeen POGs from fucking with it.
>>
>>33466097
This, I had no idea they were real until recently. I loved that game.
>>
>Name a bigger failure.
Considering that grenade launcher half of the rifle is still set for mass adoption, and that most of the features of the land warrior package it was built out are now standard in some form or another, Id say there are countless far bigger failures than the OICW. Pretty much any of the ACR programs over the years for example, or project SALVO for a particularly dumb idea.

I've always disliked how fukhueg those things are. Combined with the fact that they're somewhat situational makes it a real pain. they're basically useless at cqb distances, which really hurts an individual fireteam. If you ask a m25 gunner to also carry a m4, that makes you a dick.

wasn't the OICW concepted in the late 80s, but somehow survived to 2005? That's when I remember reading about it being killed, because the AWB had just expired and someone was whining to me at the range how civilian OICWs would never be made.

>rotating bolt action breech loaded bullpup grenade launcher, in anemic 20mm. What the actual fuck. At least the K-11 has a mag for quick follow up shots.
If the air-burst is working as advertised, and by all accounts it does, follow up shots are unnecessary. Its an analog to the M203, not the Mk19, you aren't supposed to be spamming it blindly.
Besides, the Chinese deploy multiple units at the squad level, so presumably they are used in unison.
>>

>If the air-burst is working as advertised, and by all accounts it does, follow up shots are unnecessary.

US army very much disagrees at the leathity of 20mm grenades.

>but muh smaller electronics!

Does not fly when the XM-25 came out around the same time as the ZH-01. They still went with 25mm.

> follow up shots are unnecessary.

Foolish as fuck. Absolutely fucking foolish. You are arguing that a musket is superior to a repeating rifle.

> Its an analog to the M203

M203 is literally twice the size. You dont need OCIW to achieve what the SAGM round does. Its an analog to other OCIW's.

> you aren't supposed to be spamming it blindly.

Yet one guy with an K11 is worth 5 guys with ZH-01's. He can put out far more hurt.

>Besides, the Chinese deploy multiple units at the squad level, so presumably they are used in unison.

The same can be said of any weapon.

There's a 2 generation gap between the two, and the Iran/Iraq War is literally the only example where Soviet tanks outperformed Western.
