Cost has to be a huge part of it. You need to have hundreds/thousands at your disposal. If you only make $10/hr you might have to save for months to get a firearm but even then you need practice ammo, range time, cleaning shit, holsters, extra mags, etc. Google maps estimates 2 hours to get to the nearest range by bus, 25 minutes by car, so if you have no vehicle and use public transpo, practicing is a huge logistical problem. Taking a concealed carry course is probably going to cost around $100 on the cheaper end and then the actual license another $70 in my state.

The costs add up quick. It's not a cheap hobby for beginners and you need to have hundreds of dollars in disposable income to get into it.

Not always true. Family fought communists but are rabidly anti-gun, classist authoritarians. Their entire argument against gun ownership is that it's bad because it's associated with low-class poor people.

Really, I'm starting to think the only reason they fought against the communists was because they couldn't become part of the Party and in control. Then again, all the ones who did fight are dead leaving only their children.
