Would the X-32 have been a better choice than the current F-35? It looks much more innovative and advanced.
>>33453476
It's actually a more conservative design. The way it achieves lift during VTOL is the same as the harrier
>Fuckhueg air intake
Why?
>>33453499
Because :D
>>33453476
It looks fucking stupid
No general would approve the purchase of something so incredibly ugly unless they were at war and in total desperation.
>>33453494
Isn't the harrier more prone to over heating during VTOL and wouldn't this plane have this same problem?
>>33453476
>It looks much more innovative and advanced.
How? Seriously. If this is not just some lame trolling, then please, oh please, try to elaborate on this
>>33453592
More advanced avionics.
>>33453546
The Harrier was prone to overheating because it uses an old engine that requires water injection for cooling and IIRC additional thrust.
It's highly unlikely the X-32 would have required water injection, because it used a similar or identical engine core as the X-35, but it did use a vertical lift technique similar to the Harrier that caused it to be prone (like the Harrier) to hot gas reingestion (where it breathes in its own exhaust fumes, fuel fails to burn and it loses thrust or has a compressor stall).
>>33453603
lol
>>33453603
>More advanced avionics.
Oh yes, those
Wtf, i hate Lockheed now
>>33453476
>>33453499
>>33453512
>>33453476
In what way?
In terms of stealth, it had major glaring design issues that required the use of a radar blocker
The one-piece wing design was both a nightmare and would have to be completely redesigned because they couldn't make it
Its VTOL/Engine configuration was only marginally better than the Harrier, affected the other versions more, and was still prone to the issues of the Harrier
In terms of hitting targets within the program, it was miles behind the X-35
>>33453476
>there are people actually believing that X-32 would have been a better choice than the current F-35

It really is an adorable aircraft, though.
If the air intake is sealed up and shaped to match to rest of the nose, it could look like a neat starfight.
>>33453476 yo solid candidate for shittiest opinion of the month coming thru
It was severely under powered.
>>33453603
Neither demonstrator had serious avionics, those were developed and integrated after the selections.

Doubtful, it was eliminated early on for what should be pretty obvious reasons.
>>33453476
Nope!
I honestly can't name a single thing the Hu hu hu jet did better than the x35.
>>33453476
The program was fucked for either plane.
hehehehe
hehe

I would rather have this.
>>33453612
>overheating because it uses an old engine that requires water injection
Wait, why an aircraft engine would need cooling, if its job is to suck air? How it would even heat?

What's this? Qaher-313?

I work for Boeing, fuck Boeing and I'm fairly certain some mormon Joel Olsteen designed their entry

BAe Replica - a stealth fighter project the Brits had going before they joined the JSF.

>The way it achieves lift during VTOL is the same as the harrier
Yet the lift fan in the provides more thrust, and just werked with, iirc, no issues. (if they were they were small enough not to be noticed)
>>33453476
The X-35 was Christiana Hendricks, sexy curves with a big ole lift fan.
The X-32 was Amy Shumer, a fat failure with a stupid ass smile.
>>33466488
Would tea at five with
>>33466383
m8
>>33453476
No.
Boeing fucked up everything by going "Okay so we have this plane that we're going to put through the trials and everything and show off, but it can't do what we said it could, also the airframe, wings and everything else will need to be completely redesigned before our next prototype model, so what we're showing you isn't really what you're buying and we simply don't know how much these changes will affect all the data we have been talking about for the past four years."

Temperature limit for most turbines is the Turbine Inlet Temperature, beyond which the turbine blades start to melt. The turbine sits behind the combustion chamber so eats the high temperature, high pressure air. The heat comes from burning fuel. "Air cooling" doesn't work when the air is hot enough to melt most steels.
Water injection both increases the mass of material accelerated through the engine (=more thrust) and lowers the TIT for a given fuel flow so you can apply more throttle without melting stuff (=more thrust).
