MidwayUSA had a yesterday where they took off around $80 from the original price of their Federal .223 and XM193 ammo, bringing it to a final price of $167.99. But they also accidentally released a promo code letting you take off an additional $80 per can.

This brought the price down to around 19 cents a round, which is unheard of. They sold out in about 3 hours since the first thread was made, and now we're all anxiously awaiting either shipping confirmation or cancellation emails, depending on how merciful Larry is feeling today.

I've worked at the shipping (FedEx/UPS) the system automatically makes a label, until your label says picked up by ups or it's moving, it's just procedure.

some of us called them and got "there was an inventory error" excuse
they blatantly said they didn't have the ammo at all

Tracking number is update as UPS has picked up the shipment? In warehouse order fulfillment like these orders, the tracking number and notification are generated whenever the product is pulled and processed within the warehouse, but it doesn't mean it's actually on the road and shipped until UPS/FedEx accepts the shipment and takes the product from the dock. That's not how it works, the label is generated and printed with a negotiated cost when the order is processed but the shipment can be voided at any point before UPS/FedEx picks up and signs for the orders in that day's batch and no charges will be incurred by the party. Once the shipments have been closed for processing for that day's batch (e.g, running UPS WorldShip's End of Day report, one of the programs my company uses) all orders and their respective costs are transmitted to UPS for billing.

The order can be cancelled at any point up until it's signed for by the carrier and leaves the dock.

I can say from personal experience that shipments are voided/edited regularly my dude, I do this every day. It's not uncommon for customers to change their requested shipping method/speed (Next Day Air, 2nd Day Air, etc), or more frequently the billing method (freight might be pre-paid, might be Collect to be paid by whomever receives the order, or 3rd Party where someone else pays for it because of a better/different negotiated rate, etc.)

Also orders frequently get voided/suspended because the customer has to be contacted for things like they're address is wrong in one way or another (wrong zipcode, thinking they fall under one city when it's really another, etc.) or their credit card my be declined to cover the freight costs, etc. Voiding the shipment is as simple as clicking a button and peeling the shipping label off.

Considering there were people from the original Reddit thread (that the first OP got the code from yesterday) claiming their tracking numbers had been generated and there aren't any reports of those early orders being cancelled yet, then you're probably right that they aren't getting cancelled because those original ones would have been the first in line to be voided.

I'm just speaking from experience in logistics that you shouldn't count on your order actually being shipped until your tracking number updates say it's in possession of the carrier.
