Alright /k/, I'm in the process of joining the Australian Army.

Anyone got advice or experience with shooting the F88?

Basically no option to go to a public range with related firearms.

2 stage trigger. Get used to it.
>>
>>33430467
Okay so to clarify, is that where you need to squeeze it one-two? If that makes sense? Like one is half in, two is when it fires?
>>
>>33430473
Half is a single shot.
The second stage is full automatic.

IDK if they changed that in the A2/A3 models.
>>
>>33430473
First pressure point (half pull) is single shot. Second pressure point (full pull) is full auto. But don't do that though, your instructors will lose their shit and scream at you.
>>
>>33430459
You'll get taught everything about it when you join.
The trigger takes a bit of getting used to as >>33430467 mentioned, the magazine feed lip is a common pain in the arse and there is a tiny bit of muzzle lift, recoil is negligible.
>>
>>33430459

Immediate Action Drill
- Cock
- Lock
- Look

Learning your final function test is just memory muscle.

2-stage trigger is OK & they do have a single-shot lockout button installed on them.

Ex-Navy here so good luck as a pongo.
>>
>>33430459
Trust me mate, army will take the fun out of shooting for you. Where you at in the application process btw? What you looking to join as?
>>
>>33430477
Cheers!
>>
>>33430479
Thanks for the explanation!
>>
>>33430488
Thanks bro
>>
>>33430496
I'm applying for GSO (entry level officer for all the non Australians. Ended up scoring really well on the aptitude test so why not, plus I'm 24 and have had a bunch of leadership positions in the past), with a second preference as Rifleman.

Basically if I don't get the GSO role I give very little shits, and will just go infantry (which is my interest anyway).

I'm waiting for the assessment day; I followed them up about it the other day but they said I just need to wait for the phone call.

Anyone got experience with OSB's?
>>
>>33430459
it might not still be in service by the time you join
they are getting old and worn out
>>
>>33430537
Oh for real?

What are they looking at replacing it with? Haven't heard about that at all
>>
>>33430541
Deagles
>>
>>33430496
>army will take the fun out of shooting for you.
Don't be mean, they can also fuck up - camping, running, swimming, driving, eating and enjoying the outdoors

>>33430532
>Anyone got experience with OSB's?
Yeah, they're going to hammer you pretty hard. Mostly they're looking for personal determination, motivation to join and clear, concise public speaking, demonstrated leadership etc.

I'm not sure what Australia plans
but New Zealand has already retired theirs at the start of this year
>>
currently waiting on my full time rifleman enlistment date.

been waiting 4 months now and army said probably 6-12 months more waiting

shit fucking sucks
>>
>>33430557
What's the best way to approach previous leadership stuff? Or do they basically ask straight up?
>>
>>33430582
That's news to me. I'll definitely look into this though, cheers!

The are replacing it with an upgraded version of the same rifle the drills are marginally different. Don't try and learn them before you get there 90% of recruits have never touched a firearm before they will teach you how when you get there.
>>
>>33430586
That's rough.

How was Assessment day?
>>
>>33430608
yeah was good no dramas at all, theyre really big on past employment and team sports so if youre joining make sure to mention any of that
>>
>>33430601
I was hoping it might result in some surplus sales
but they will probably just hoard them in storage
>>
>>33430605
Cool to know.

Any links to offical news discussing this?

>>
>>33430624
Thanks!
>>
>>33430626
nah the fitness assessment is after the assessment day. mine was like a month apart but it differs.
no physical stuff on assessment day
>>
>>33430630
No worries bro, good luck with joining up check out this youtube channel if you want some useful tips https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMmbCDBAHFvsUYN_yCJJ6Dw
>>
>>33430633
Okay great, thanks for clarifying!
>>
>>33430642
Thanks again! I'll check it out
>>
>>33430655
no worries
>>
>>33430598
They'll ask about previous leadership and a bit about 'how' you can motivate people and all that sort of stuff.
Its probably worth your while to get some reading material on the fundamentals there, so if you don't have previous then you'll be able to have at least a basic knowledge of it. Just remember, officers somewhere like the US or UK get to bounce out of college and automatically assume the pips will give them carte blanc to be listened to. Australian soldiers you'll have to earn their respect before being called boss- that means you get your hands dirty, show people how things are done, make sure they're fed, watered and bedded down before you even consider your own needs.
>>
>>33430669
Good advice.

What's some tips for not being a fuckwit New officer?
>>
>>33430688
Listen to your senior NCOs.

I'm joining the Australian Army soon too, my dude. We shall conquer New Zealand side by side.
>>
>>33430688
Get to know your Sgt's, they're the ones who have the knowledge and hands-on management at a platoon level, get to know your guys overall, particularly specialists.
If something has fucked up spectacularly beyond belief, chances are there's a corporal in there... fuck my life

Be seen, be heard. If you're buried in an office all the time doing paperwork (which is unavoidable sometimes) then no one will give a shit. Like anything, applied focus to the unit overall will equal a result- that is your focus and avoiding being cornholed by your CO.
>>
>>33430688
>>33430706
Just a digger here.

Just don't listen to that one shit NCO.
>>
>>33430688
Knock the boys off, seriously don't make them stand around for 20 minutes after clean up waiting for you to tell them what PT is the next day
>>
>>33430737
>>33430715
>>33430711
Thanks for the tips.

Do people legitimately make everyone stand around just to tell them they are doing PT in the morning? That's beyond stupid.

I'll tell you now, if I am successful in getting in, I'll do my best to avoid bullshit like that.
>>
>>33430706
>>33430729
Good tips, thanks
>>
>>33430750
>I'll do my best to avoid bullshit like that.
Officers have to receive orders from above in the afternoon as well. So if HQ makes you wait there's nothing you can do about it.
>Do people legitimately make everyone stand around just to tell them they are doing PT in the morning?
Other bullshit could come up at short notice and PT could be cancelled or changed (eg. 'pool's closed tomorrow cunts')
>>
>>33430488
Yeah nah look first with EF88/F90 since it's got a bolt hold open.

As for the gun; meh whatever it works. New sight is pretty swank. Bipod is better for keeping gun out of dirt than it is shooting. I think it's lighter as well.
>>
>>33430532
