To get good at irons the key is to zero to paper. 25m zero is fine. (Easytoo) and just group. 3-5 shot groups. Make the goal keyholing every shot. Focus on all fundamental s and go through your mental check list (steady position, proper eye relief, proper sight alignment, controled breathing, proper trigger squeez. ) it it sounds silly im sure and very repetitive but, concisely do every single one. Over and over and over. Work on your groups and once your groups are spot on use a couple hold offs and see how you group. If applicable.

And apply the fundamentals. Lots of dry fire. Lots of shooting.

>>33420338
This, applying the fundamentals is VERY conscious at first. You have to concentrate on every detail while you're shooting, especially trigger control.

M16 iron sights are apertures that can be switched between ghost ring for close range and peep hole for more accurate long range shooting. They are easier to use than notched sights as you only have to focus on two focal planes (as opposed to three).

0. Inspect the gun to make sure nothing is loose or shifts under light pressure.

1. Get a good stance, cross-legged with your off-hand braced on your left leg might be a good place to start.

2. Get a good cheek weld, this means having the stock securely planted against your shoulder and your cheek snugly against the stock such that you can look clearly through the rear sight.

3. To aim, place the the bull's eye right on top of the front sight as the front sight is in the center of your field of vision as constrained by the rear sight that you are now looking through.

4. Take a couple of normal breaths and then on the last exhale, inhale about 1/3rd-1/2 such that you have minimal tension in your core.

5. Place your finger on the trigger up to the 1st joint. Pull it smoothly without moving your hand, wrist, or arm. If you do it right, the gun should fire suddenly ( a surprise break). Doing it this way keeps you from accidently torquing the rifle by squeezing too hard or too fast.

6. Fire 3 shot groups and then check to see where they landed. You are trying to get them tightly clustered together.

7.Once you have a sufficiently tight group, measure how far its center is from the bull's eye. You can now zero the sights by adjusting the front and rear sights. Elevate the the front sight to shift your group down and lower the front sight to shift the group up (opposite direction). Adjust the the rear sight to the left to shift the group left and adjust it to the right to shift the group right (same direction). If you can't adjust the sights far enough enough to get the group on the bull's eye, there is either something wrong with your technique or the gun (something's misaligned).

8.Enjoy

Nice first rifle. kind of wish I did an A4 or A2 build instead of pic related, but w/e.

If you want to git good with irons then flip through this. It's a must read for new AR owners
https://archive.org/details/MCRP3-01A

If you are shooting off hand there are many different stances you can use, but my preferred one is as followed.

>stand square to target, feet in slight fighting stance
>put rifle butt in the pocket of the shoulder between the shoulder and the pectoral muscle
>place support hand on the end of the magwell (this is how I do it at least. I need a foregrip I know)
>shrug shoulders to bring rifle up to eye level (bring the rifle up to you, not vice versa)
>place cheek firmly on the rifle as far up on the stock as you can until you get a good sight picture that matches what the pictures in the Marine training manual show
>breath naturally, but pause after an exhale to steady sights
>pull trigger

AR irons are very natural and are about the best irons you can train on if you ask me. have fun with your rifle OP.

IS that paint on the door?
>>
>>33419273
>Also, how do I git gud with irons?

Benchrest, make it so there is zero reason your shots are landing off other than your aim and trigger pull.

Then take that knowledge and apply it to off-hand or supportive positions.

>and neither is the ammo.

Hopefully the Republicucks and current administration will lift some sanctions / import restrictions on Russian surplus ammo and weapons so we can have a flood of cheap slavshit guns and ammo again before the gungrabbers get back in office. I have a PSL kit with a new receiver and barrel sitting in my closet that I need to put together someday and it'd be nice if there was some cheap surplus 54r available to plink with when I finally get around to building it.

I just did an A2 build and I really like it. The only place I could find A2 uppers was Fulton Armory, and their upper don't have M4 feed ramps (and my barrel has an M4 barrel extension, though it's not supposed to be too big of a deal).

>>33419382
Spectre gear slings are great, I was recommended a 2 point sling from /arg/ and I really like it.
>>
>>33420794

>Want an A2 setup AR
>lack the motivation to do the research to piece one together by myself

Where can I just buy one that looks like that....
>>
>>33421055
I pieced my together online, it's not a perfect clone but outwardly I think it's fine. Fulton Armory like I said is the only place I could find that was selling A2 uppers. I bought a striped one but I think they sell completed uppers (for more money, and building the upper really isn't hard, I did it with some punches, electrical tape, and a hammer in my room).

Everything else is pretty easy to find, and building it wasn't really all that bad. I built my lower too with the same tools I built the upper with. Took a few hours and you will need some specialised tools (like a vice and a torque wrench if you're putting the barrel on) but they're not super expensive.
>>
>tfw want a 20" rifle but I am left handed and autistic so both my build wants are retarded

>tfw want to build an a1 but parts are too expensive and I am left handed
>C7 uppers dried up
>want to basically do an a2 with a pencil barrel and a1 furniture since left handed and a2 has better sights

>want an a2 but I don't like government profile barrels, the a2 pistol grip and prefer a1 length, so essentially a a2 with a pencil barrel, a1 length stock, a1 pistol grip and a2 handguards.

lol I just realized the only difference between my two retard builds is the handguards

I am a monster so I'd never do either build. Maybe a stock a2 with a pencil barrel tho...

You could always look for a Colt A2, like a Match Target or other HBAR. They're very nice in my experience and I regret selling mine.
>>
>>33421805
How many different types of scopes are there that work with the carry handle uppers (A1 and A2)? I've seen one that's from colt, but at there more? I'd like a nice optic for my rifle but I'd prefer not to mount a rail on the carry handle and then just put a plain jane scope
>>
>>33419427
Where? My PMAGs were like 8 bucks a pop. I want USGI mags so if you could throw a link I'd appreciate it.
>>
>>33422059
PSA D&H ones go on sale for like $7, PSA is being jews though and haven't dropped the sale price to $6 even though its post election and every other mag has dropped a few dollars
>>
>>33422038
The colt scopes are good, but there are plenty of ways to do it. You can find gooseneck mounts. But if you want to mount a scope, the best option is still going to be a flat top upper.
>>
>>33422038
ACOG's are the most aesthetic unless you've got an A1 you're trying to keep retro.

Something like this? I do like that set up, and since my A2 has a heavy barrel it'd make more sense to mount some sort of optic and have it be useful at longer ranges. But I don't really know what this type of mount is called, it seems like it's just a thumbscrew which goes through the little hole in the carry handle.

It's kinda funny, as soon as I finished this build I realized I wanted a really light little carbine that would be more suited for <100 yard engagements. I guess ARs really are addictive.

>>33420672
pretty sure that ain't happening. russophobia is as least as high as it was during the late soviet period
>>
>>33419273
A couple very basic tips you might not pick up right away
>Make sure your front and rear sight are aligned
>Once you have them aligned, make sure you focus on the front sight post while you're shooting
>Use the pad of your finger to pull the trigger, rather than the joint (this makes a massive difference in accuracy for me)
>Choke your hand up as far towards the muzzle of the rifle as is comfortably possible
>Make sure you lean into the rifle, rather than away from it
>>
>>33422593
I also want to point out that a few of my tips run contrary to what other anons are recommending ITT. (ie. Where to place your support hand, what part of the finger to use to pull the trigger, etc)

Don't worry about this too much, there's no objectively correct way to shoot a rifle, just find what you're comfortable with and stick with it. I really can't overstate how key consistency is and how much training you can get in without ever firing a live round.

For example
>Bring rifle up from the low ready position and acquire a good sight picture. Do this over and over and over until you naturally align the sights as you bring the rifle up against your shoulder
>Practice pulling the trigger without any live ammo, just focus on consistently pulling the trigger (ie. Using the same part of your finger) and getting a feel for the reset while keeping your sights aligned properly. This is very important as a lot of new shooters will jerk the gun prematurely in anticipation of the recoil/noise of the gunshot and throw their sights out of line. Make sure to follow the 4 rules of firearm safety when doing this (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about)
>Practice mag changes innahouse, this isn't really a marksmanship skill so much as a tacticool one, but will still improve one aspect of your rifle handling skills
