Either this or just a regular spandau with a very light bolt

Flamethrower would also be top tier if you could solve the ammo problem

Honestly a merkava would be perfect for this

Just take an mk2 or something and load it with extra ammo

>60 105mm canister shot shells
>600 40mm flechette or HE rounds for the mk19
>4000 rounds of .50 bmg for the m2

And it would double as a transport / mobile bunker

I get that hunting's hunting, and big bore rifles are their own tradition/niche etc...

However; from a purely practical standpoint taking into account intermediate cartridges and automatic weapons (inb4 pkm isn't intermediate; I know, I'm not saying it IS; I'm saying that a lot of big game tech was established pre WW2, and diverged from modern military design philosophy as it's own recreational thing and that's perfectly fine)

Has anyone ever done any research on the comparable effect of high volume smaller caliber fire against large soft targets relative to traditional high cal options?

E.G.

One would recommend a 308 or 338 for conventional brown bear hunting; HOWEVER: has anyone ever tried magdumping a bear with 30 rounds of 556 or 762 in a couple seconds? I don't think we do a lot of hunting with automatic weapons; so we don't really have a lot of metrics on that.

I'm not saying I'm 100% positive that you could down a charging rhino or elephant with a full box on a modern intermediate cartridge LMG; but has anyone really tried?
>>

>>
>>33404925
>I don't think we do a lot of hunting with automatic weapons; so we don't really have a lot of metrics on that.
I'm not a hunter, but uhhh...

"Hunting" generally means you want to eat the thing afterwards. Which is easier if the meat is not pre-ground by a large number of wound channels, I presume. Also more bullet holes means higher chance of hitting an organ with icky stuff in it which you don't want to be seeping into your beef (gall bladder or something?).

What you mean, I believe, is killing the animal, as in pest control. Which by its nature you want to do as cost-effective as can, and magdumping is anything but.

[side note, whats the difference (to you) between "308" and "762"?]

And all that said,
>a modern intermediate cartridge LMG;
the thing is that that gun (or rather that cartridge) is designed to kill humans. Probably. Which is comparably easy, humans are fairly thin (front-to-back), don't have an exceptionally thick skin, and are generally pretty squishy. A wild boar on the other hand has none of those weaknesses and is likely to walk through your 30 rounds and gut you anyway. Sure it might bleed out later or something, but thats not a great help to you then. And a boar is not even that big of an animal compared to your rhinos and elephants, or OP's Jurassic Park scenario.
>tl;dr theres a reason big game cartridges exist
>>
I think something like the AA-12 for the CLEVER GIRLS loaded with grenade rounds or slugs would be super meme worthy and effective. M240 bravo, gotta have a 50 cal snipper rifle, and then a 50 cal ma deuce mounted on a jeep to top it all off.

Clearing out as in ending all life, clearing out like to form a beachhead for a preserve, or clearing out as in divide and control to form a new park and incarcerate the animals?

Obliterating life on the island would be easy with napalm/phosphorous. Easy mode.

Forming a game preserve would involve having an armored all terrain vehicle, preferably wheeled for the diverse terrain from Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar. Mounted weapons should be 20mm or larger changing or auto cannon, they can be operated open air with a blast screen in most applications. Infantry should be armed with mostly battle rifles, 7.62NATO caliber, large aperture sights with minimal zoom. At least one target hunter with a large bore hunting rifle and well ranged scope for applicable terrain for current operation.

Same goes for option 3 as well I guess.

Most important would be the tactics, using the hunting rifle to drop targeted animals for the health and management of island resources, using the team to herd animals or defend against aggressive animals. Surveilled from above by simple rotorcraft. Leadership operates from a C&C APC for managing multiple teams in scenarios as such.

OP here, For the sake of discussion lets say your objective is to conduct a selective extermination (I'm trying to find a better word than dinosaurs) on dinosaurs with minimal damage to the other non target wildlife. Hell for shits and giggles lets say that there might be remaining staff trying to survive on the island.

>>33406195
Am I allowed to bring anti-vehicle weaponry? Because the T-Rex in those movies is fucking huge and I don't feel comfortable shooting it with standard caliber weapons.
>>
>>33406195
Then I would maintain my prior outfitting but broaden the command structure, utilize tagging of targeted animals to begin with to draw out the locations of their nests and herds, and exterminate from strong to weak so even those that survive to breed would have ever weakening genes. Full extermination would take a couple years and a few generations.

If performing a rescue through large animals, I would lead the convoy with a minesweeper armed with a flail, or barring that, a DC9 caterpillar a la Israel v Palestine. If going towards the interior of the island, larger bore cannon would be required due to the scale of the animals once outside of the coastal tropical rainforest. The idea is to discourage more than slay, selective execution can be done with large bore rifles and a hunter in a small team, or with a cannon mounted to an APC and herding the animal with helicopters. It would be easier to come up with specific tactics given targeted species, encountered terrain, and objectives in explicit, but this is my basic idea for threat mitigation.

>>
>>33404925
Seems to happen sometimes but i don't have sources on it or anything. I have heard in passing of multiple people up in Alaska carrying semi auto 5.56, 7.62x39 or 7.62x51 rifles for bear defense. id think the 5.56 would be a poor choice with AP rounds, but enough x51 or x39 would probably work.
>>
>>33405556
>A wild boar on the other hand has none of those weaknesses and is likely to walk through your 30 rounds and gut you anyway.

This challenge is too easy, you can just mount a bunch of M2 Brownings/grenade launchers on trucks and mow shit down. Should spice it up by adding a budget or something
>you have $20000 and 10 untrained but dedicated men
>you must exterminate an Oahu sized islands worth of dinos within 1 year
>food and accommodations supplied, but your base isn't T Rex proof
>assume all countries on earth would sell to you
>nothing too destructive, no flamethrowers/RPGs
There's an interesting challenge, and now I really want a game made out of this.
>>
>>33406423
doesnt m855 tend to frag? not to mention raptors very in size from 3ft to 20+. id imagine that for an intermediate caliber weapon you really want to prioritize penetration and accurate ROF.

I have never hunted. And I have little interest in doing so, because I like my intestines inside my belly, thank you very much. But I know people who do.
Maybe boars in your country are different, but if you show up with a 556 to hunt them here, you will literally get laughed out of the county. 200kg (thats over 400lbs for you yanks) of pig running at you is not a fun thing.
