Hello, /k/. I'm new to purchasing firearms. Looking to get a like-new condition makarov. Is this even possible? And what would be the best way of finding one? Are there any other modern guns with makarov-ish aesthetics that would be easier to find?
10 seconds on google
classicfirearms dot com search for makarov
but don't do this for your first gun. If you want a small handgun, just get a .380 glock or bersa

why? What's wrong with a Mak?

I used to CC a mak.
It fires a cartridge which is only available through online stores. Seriously, I own a mak and I've never seen 9x18 for sale in person outside of one gun show. That makes all ammo by default much more expensive because you have to add shipping costs. Hope you're buying in bulk!
It's single stack, so your capacity is 7+1. Compare that to 15+1 in the G19 or G25, the G19 being in a more powerful and readily buyable cartridge as well. If you can carry a G17 then you get 17+1.
Concealed carry holsters are a bitch to find. You can't find anything modern. I ended up having to use a generic non hard plastic IWB holster that had almost no retention.
The sights are tiny.
Front sight visibility sucks in broad daylight. Good luck acquiring your target at night.
It's heavy compared to modern pistols.
In summary: There's a reason things become obsolete. Get one if you're a fan of history and you want a nice surplus pistol that feels great to shoot. Do not get one as your primary handgun.

Its a good gun, I would look for something like a cz-83 if you want ammo commonality. I think its a decent gun for your first, as long as you can deal with the downsides.
For a range toy most of the problems are gone. I like the small sights, heavy weight, and steel feel. The ammo isn't too bad when you buy online. Looks like an extra $40 per 1000
I love my mak

Academy always has it in stock, and extremely cheap. Cheaper than 9mm most of the time, especially since it doesn't give a fuck about steel case. It definitely has shortcomings, but if you have an academy or the internet, ammo availability isn't one.

What state do you live in?

There are 9 gun stores within 15 miles of me as well as a Gander Mountain and a Bass Pro. None of them have any.

Ok, 9x18 is coming out of your fucking ears in your area.
I get it.
Doesn't change any of the other problems with the gun or the fact that any one who isn't a manlet should be carrying either 9mm or bigger anyway.

>mfw manlet
>mfw Mak fits perfectly in my wee little hands
also:
>should be carrying either 9mm or bigger anyway.
>implying 9x18 isn't 9mm
wew

>implying you're stupid enough to not know I was talking about 9x19
>implying 9x18 is on par with 9x19

I have to agree. Handgun calibers have little difference for the most part, especially 9x18 vs 9x19.
I adore my mak and I shoot it better than any other semi auto I own. I really enjoy it. Sure there are newer guns that are way better on paper (higher cap lower weight) but the reality is if it works for you then it's the best gun you can own.
