So /k/ I want a lightweight woods gun with a straight pull action and a very minimalist stock and short barrel. I don't want to rape a k31 or pay a retarded amount of money to buy ammo/get a gun converted to .308 but the action is so fucking sexy. The only other straight pull rifle that is RELATIVELY common is an M95 mannlicher with even weirder ammo but also has historical context/ is heavy as fuck. Is there any other straight pull action that feels good and is somewhat modern and effective that has reasonably common ammo and can be put in lightweight furniture ( and that I won't feel bad about raping any historical context)? Obviously if money was no object I would just nut up and get a Blazer but that's not happening for at least a couple more years.

>An austrian company is doing boltactions what looks like modern things, but they keep some old mauser features like the flag type safety..

But at the end you have to choose, modern or millsurp

M95s are light as fuck, about 2 lbs lighter than a K31.

And no, what you seek does not exist.
>>

>33381958
But that crazy ammo tho...
>>
>>33381752
Wait another five years and I might have started production on something like what you're after.
>>
>>33381752
your best and cheapest route is the k31, there not super rare so I wouldnt worry about modifying one. the biggest plus is that the bore of the barrel is .308 dia so you would just need to get the chamber reamed
>>
>>33381986
Reload or suck it up, what you want does not exist.
>>
>>33382014
Yeah but I was reading that you can only shoot mid to light load .308 out of modified K31s due to the strength of the action which kinda bums me out. Might be the only viable road though

Concur with other Anon - what you are looking for does not exist. At least, not with the money/time limitations you've put on it...

It MIGHT (and I stress MIGHT) be possible to scratch up an M95M.

Those are the M95's that were converted to fire 7.92x57.

The 7.92 and the '06 have the same rim size. '06 and 7.62 x 51 have the same rim size.

Which means it is theoretically POSSIBLE to buy an M95M and rebarrel it to 7.62x51.

But anytime you perform a cartridge conversion, you have to worry about pressures - the 95 is an old design and while the M variant was chambered for the 7.92x57, that isn't the same thing as the 7.62x51.

And... it's a lot of work. Which means you're butting up against time/money constraints again... plus, the M variant is rather rare... so there's that...

Find a sporterized M95 and get a custom barrel in .300 BLK or 6.5 Grendal and fiddle with the mag

Anon,

Goes to previous post re: M95M.

Found one on Gunbroker for $500 chambered in 8x57 Mauser. Full battle rattle.

If you can set aside your boner for the .308, the 8x57 is an extremely capable round. Granted, not all that common here in the US, but it's better than trying to cobble together decent 8x56R ammo...

Your call. Auction has about an hour or so left on it...

>STANAG M95
That's sick and you should feel ashamed for making me want that.

>>33381752
They do make lightweight drop in K31 stocks. Ammo isn't too bad if you look out for deals

CZ 527

I have the CZ 550 and it's amazing.

If you are in Canada ... you could find a sporterized/butchered Ross in .303 for not too crazy money.

find a sporter ross rifle. very secci and shoot the accurate

>>33381752
merkel helix is $1,000 cheaper and has a fancy pinion system that makes the bolt move almost twice as far as the charging handle during the extracting and chambering stroke.
>>
>>33381752
I've got a sporterized M95 carbine and its handy as shit. The whole mannlicher clips thing is a bitch though. I've heard of people rechambering m95s into more common calibers, might be too expensive for you, unless you find a really cheapo m95

hunting or innawoods general faggotry?

K31 is an ideal milsurp for target shooting. Not so much for hauling around dense mountainous forest. You'll be paying dearly for an appropriate sighting system.

Cheaper to buy a better suited modern rifle with scope

1.Buy an AR
2.take out the gas tube and plug the gas port.
3.???
4. Profit.
>>
>>33381752
Just get an already sporterized one, or one of the .308 conversions.
