How often do you conceal your power level /k/?

>Have a small family reunion with close relatives and some distant ones who happen to be in town
>Usually I am pretty quiet at these sort of social events because I can't really participate in conversations about sports and reality TV shows
>Family is mostly pro-gun, but none of them are really hobbyist and the closest any of them have gotten to experience with firearms is going out to hunt occasionally
>Uncle who is usually the one who babysits others on hunting trips speaks up about a new rifle he got
>This quickly spurs a conversation about guns as a whole
>Get a little excited on the inside because this is a conversation I can actually contribute to
>This excitement quickly fades as I listen to the non-stop flow of fuddlore and other common misconceptions about firearms
>Mfw I realized that if I spoke up now I would probably end up looking like an autist and would offhandedly be correcting 90% of the shit everyone said
>Keep quite

You should have known right then.
>I realized that if I spoke up now I would probably end up looking like an autist
Literally everyone in every hobby has to deal with this. Better to correct them than let them continue spreading misinformation.
>>
>>33381475
Mfw when my family doesnt know i own guns.
Mfw when im 19, in college, and still live with my parents who dont know i own guns.
>>
>>33381475
Hardly any of my friends or family know I own guns/carry and I do my do my best to keep it that way
>>
Literally everyone one of my family members, friends (even the weird ones who are somehow on my facebook), and Co workers know I shoot, carry and love guns, never had even an awkward moment with any of them. Either it's arizona being the best damn state or the fact that I don't look like an autist. Either way I'm grateful for it, and grateful for all of your struggles that you all share
>>
>>33381475
I don't keep quiet.
Everyone in the family knows I'm the gun guy and (seems to) like to learn stuff from me.

It's all about how you present yourself when speaking.
If someone talks about fuddlore X topic if you blurt out "THAT'S WRONG AND YOU'RE RETARDED" nobody will want to talk to you.
>>
>>33381475
Everyone eventually knows I own guns some way or another. But I try to be subtle about it when I first meet people. And the only people who really know how much I'm into guns or how many I own is my girlfriend, roommates, my son, and my family because I'm extremely introverted and just not very talkative outside of the internet.
>>
>>33381475
Too often.

So much so that I am notably shocked when someone doesn't.

If my suspicion is right: Lee, you've got a nice plate carrier and mini-14.
>>
Yesterday at work a coworker said his mom (who is a nurse at the hospital we work at) worked on a lady like 15 years ago who shot herself in the ankle bone with a .22. The bullet *stayed in her body* until it came out her "jugg-lar" after trying to explain to him the basic physical impossibility of that statement hos response was literally "then why does a .22 bounce around inside your skull and liquify your brain? Everyone knows that's true, it can't get out the back of your skull."
>>
Outside of weddings and funerals, never.

If my political views make you uncomfortable, you'll just have to fucking deal with it.
>>
If you're talking about my animu powerlevel, I've spent a decade hiding it. If you're talking about my /k/ related powerlevel I wear my heart on my sleeve. Not that I socialize much.
>>
>>33381475
I live in Kentucky so naturally fuddlore is like a requirement around here, you honestly get used to it.
But hiding my powerlevel was super fuckin hard as a kid. My father died when I was 8 and I psuedo-inherited (long story) and I had always been around guns. When dad died i fully moved to the city and being a little white nerdy gun autist in innercity lex in the late 90s was weird. Kinda strange I got bullied for talking about guns, which you'd think people wouldn't risk doing.
I used to buy gun magazines at CVS after school and read them on the bus the next morning.
But in highschool the whole "Wudda gonna do, shoot up the school?" and "I know where I'M going in the zombie apocalypse." shit and despite literal autism I kept my gun love on the dl. Everyone still knew I was autistic though.
I ended up befriending the LGS owner and shooting the shit with him all the time.
Gave firearm advice to my science teacher for a CC
Friends with half the staff of Buds in lex now which is cool.
>>
Just revealed my power level at my work place, after half a year of working there. Found out most have shot guns before, half want to go shooting, one had shot air rifle competition at school before. Of course being in CA, theres ton of gun control opinion from some but no one really cares or have freaked out.
>>
>>33381475
I only try to hide my gun autism in certain situations. Like if I'm at school I have to restrain myself from looking at gun deals on my phone. If people want to talk about guns, religion, or politics I'm fine with taking openly about that stuff. Random people, my family, my gf, and her family I don't give a fuck I'll talk openly. I'm pretty antisocial so I sometimes try to do things to get people to not want to talk to me.
>>
>>33381475
If you don't have the strength of conviction to defend your beliefs in a discussion with people that have similar interests, your beliefs might not be as correct as you think they are.
>>
>>33381475

>I fucking hate being a progun progressive. both RNC, and DNC are too retarded to be called retarded.
>so ronrey.
>>
>>33382590
This is exactly the type of autism I was trying to avoid
>>
>>33382729
Autism is having discussions with like minded people?

It makes sense to not bring up your hobbies around people that aren't interested in them, but avoiding discussion with people explicit interested in them seems... autistic.
>>
I've hidden my entire power level from everyone but my parents. Even they know little. Guns, anime, dickgirls, Linux... I'm a vault. Nobody wants to hear about any of the shit I have to say except the autists on these boards anyways.
>>
>>33381475
I don't, really.

If the subject of guns comes up, I'll happily discuss it with people, and I won't hesitate to correct any misconceptions (you know, without being an ass about it), but I won't just randomly bring it up if it isn't relevant.

Everytime my wife's parents visit from Australia... Specifically her mother.

I have to rearrange the garage to hide the rifle safe from view, which is a huge pain in the ass.

I usually leave my fullsize CC out somewhere accesible to myself or even just OC around the house. I can't do that when they're here so I am CCing a fullsize pistol for 18hours a day... Not uncomfortable, but not as comfortable as I deserve to be in my own house.

And my son is starting to speak and blurts things out. I try to avoid him seeing guns just all the time. But he certainly knows they exist in our household.

They're here again in like 3 weeks...

I'm pretty liberal on most things (LGBQ rights, feminism, socialised resources, etc) so other libs are always amazed that I am into guns. I've converted more lefties into 2A supporters than most.

It's amazing what a few trips to an outdoors shooting range with someone who doesn't spout right-wing lore will do to a lefty.

>>
>>33386089
I'm honestly disappointed that no one in my family is really anti-gun because the entire library of gun autism in head goes largely unused.
>>
>>33381475

I'd just not talk about guns if I were you. You're clearly a weirdo and nothing good will come of it. Also, people don't like being corrected on 90% of the stuff they say 100% of the time, no matter the subject.

Sometimes, but only around one retard I work with. Brother in law will ask me questions from time to time, but he actually listens to what I say. But about the retard I work with:

>randomly brings up random weapon type topics when Im not acknowledging his existance
>"whats your opinion on 3d printed guns? Theyre cool right?"
>comes back from "using the bathroom" one day, says "i just got off the phone with the people that made the 3d printed liberator gun! Cool right?"
This was 3 or 4 months ago
>starts looking at buying a gun, wants a pistol, since hes a retard and a poorfag he set his budget to under $200.
>asks what i thought about $199 for a gun, ask him what gun?
>says "a handgun" what type? "A bersa" ask him "bersa thunder .380?" "Yes..."
>couple days later hes looking at .22 revolvers that are around $149, turns to me "hey look at these, these are magnums! Pretty cool right?"
>dead face him, ask him how a .22lr revolver is a magnum
>week later asks me if i thought boss would let him bring a gun to work, explain to him why thats a retarded idea when he doesnt have a concealed license
>very next week "hey guess what? I brought my gun to work!" What him as hard as i can because i literally just told him last week he would be retarded to do that.
>pulls out .22 round "pretty cool huh?" Dead face again, "no not really"
>asks me how the .22 round works, think hes asking how rimfire works, start explaining "and then it ignites the gunpowder...."
>stops me there "theres gunpowder in this?!?"

And thats when i stopped even talking to that retard. It was like he kept trying to get me to unleash my power level, but thankfully he was so god damned retarded I could keep it hidden by cringing at his sheer stupidity.

I'm a Canadian.

I own a safe FULL of rifles / shotguns and another with misc + ammo.

My whole family has no idea, because they're textbook anti-gun. Guns are worse than Hitler. Guns kill children. Anon, did you know a gun can go off at any time!?

That kind of shit.

The only tip-off I've given is wearing old Cad surplus, usually OD green / mil. boots because damn they're comfy.

I keep my arms a secret because my sister found out once and called the cops from a payphone, claiming I had snapped and was preparing to go full Jason Bourque.

Family disowned her over that. They still think I only own 2-3 hunting rifles. Heh.

Now, if they found out I had a serious interest in cases like Columbine, Moncton, etc, they'd probably REEEEE me into oblivion. Can't even study old cases without people losing their minds.

:(

I can openly spout /k/ shit around my two friends who also come here. At school a lot of people in my major like guns, but aren't autistic like me. Although some people do come to me for help or suggestions because of that autism. Bonus, I have a fudd-ish friend who likes to annoy me with fuddlore. "I got a new CC piece. A good ol american 45. Its got that stopping power that wimpy 9mm doesn't have, fuck capacity I want a big fat bullet." He's says with a shit eating grin just to have me sperg out on him in front of people. Mfw
>>
Before I was with my current GF I dated around a lot and was very open that I was a collector and did a lot of buying/selling.

I live in a pretty liberal area so it was a 50/50 mix between "Ok, thats cool lets go shooting/mudding" to full on "You don't have a gun with you now do you?" Had a few early because I would CC at a movie, or coffee shop etc.

The way I look into it, if they're not okay with me carrying or being around firearms the relationship wouldn't work out in the long run.

My now GF's a hunter, loves trucks and going shooting. Her dad is also a master class sporting clay shooter and a serious hunter.

I work with a bunch of engineers but on the finance side of things.

90% of them own guns and shoot, and whenever we go to lunch or have a minute, we're constantly talking cars (on an autistically technical level) or guns (on a similarly autistic level)

I shoot and drag race with the same group of dudes.
I am very glad to have to moved to PA from MA.
The word gun got me a lot of dirty look and panicked faces in my home state, even around "friends"

>How often do you conceal your power level /k/?
I don't, because I'm a grown adult who has a job, lives on my own, and makes my own decisions in life. While I love and respect my family, now that I'm a grownup I neither presume to tell them what to spend their money on, nor do I accept unsolicited advice from them on what to spend my own money on. If they happen to offer it, I politely but firmly let them know that the subject is not up for debate. At work, I don't really bring the subject up, because my private life is my own and it's really none of their business what I do on my time off. As for friends, all of mine like going shooting together, and if any of them didn't, I wouldn't force them. And though it's never come up, anyone who would end a friendship over the fact that I engage in a perfectly legal hobby is someone I'm best rid of anyway, because they aren't a real friend.

That about covers it.

I understand trying to not make people like that needlessly uncomfortable, but you're going waaaaay too far out of your way to conceal it.

There just comes a point to where they just need to deal with it.

Why? Your roof, your rules. If she doesn't like it, she can stay at Motel 6. I'm not just being a sperg here - you're a grownup and can have any legal item you like in your house.

I want to say "are you me" but now I realize this is probably a quarter of this shitty site.

I guess this is why we come here.

Don't tell them. Ever. Unless you move out. But don't tell them you had it under their roof. I've seen enough threads on that topic.

Only thing I really hold back on any more is the full 1488 thing. Got two coal burner stepsisters, so dropping truth bombs about interracial divorce and spousal abuse statistics would make me rather unpopular.

My family and all of my friends are either hasguns or are gun friendly. My inlaws don't have a clue because they are eurofags and would shit themselves.

A few times a year I go shooting with my workmates. Although, I don't understand one of them. He's a Hillary fellating, polar bear hugging, liberal bitch, but he likes guns.

It's entirely possible for bullet fragments to be carried in the bloodstream.

More common with artillery/bomb shrapnel.

The more pro funs lefties there are the more chance pro fun lefties run for office.
If both sides are eventually equally protective of funs I'd call that a damn good victory.

Dad says to me when I'm 18

>son I want you to promise me you'll never own guns

My dad was quite strict, and like any good father struck fear into me by the mere "look" when he was pissed. By the time I was 18 I quit giving a fuck.

Me
> I'm not promising that,

>Dad stares at me intently, than tries talking me out of guns citing bullshit statistics that I already educated myself on.

>remain adamant, counter with my own statistics and cite my sources.

Fast forward to this year I moved away to near Detroit for school, go to a tigers game with family and need to go fetch my vehicle late at night to park at hotel.

Dad elects to come with me, asks if I brought gun. Remove Smith and Wesson from night bag and receive look of approval.

>feels good man.

Parents arent really anti gun. Dad grew up hunting and what not and all of his side of the family is gun owners. Moms side of the family hardcore right wing so im not concerned. But my plan is to not let them know i had it under their roof. I am in college and our campus police station has gun lockers you can rent for like 10 bucks a semester. Im going to tell them thats where ive kept it.

I'm a trauma surgeon and I can tell you that this can absolutely happen. It's not exclusive to .22s, but bullets act very strangely in the the body. I once saw a man shot in the chest by a .44 magnum be utterly ambulatory and lucid. The bullet had gone straight through and not damaged anything. Conversely, a young man hunting with a .22 had shot himself in the hand and had the bullet yaw off one of his bones and end up depositing itself about a centimeter above his aortic arch. Sustained pretty heavy bleeding after the bullet perforated his armpit. Another time, a man shot in the foot died on the operating table after a tiny bullet fragment traveled in his bloodstream and caused significant tearing as it traveled.

I'm telling you, bullets are weird.

Depending on the weather, I carry a .45. If I am carrying a single stack for conceal-ability then I would rather have 7 rounds of .45 than 10 9mm. Full sized I would always choose 9mm though.
