>Americans could make decent Mosins
>but they can't make a decent AK

Explain this.
>>
Don't you mean Finland?
>>
Capitalism. Market is stagnant, saturated with the latest bag of garbage AR accessories or meme caliber conversion kits. The money isn't in AKs, it's in more garbage accessories for a rifle that is only popular because of how many people use it. Why choose the best gun when you can choose a gun that's critically flawed but cheaper with more aftermarket parts and better availability of whatever silly doodad your little mall ninja heart desires. Money money money. Craftsmanship? Quality? Oy vey don't be like that. Gotta make more cheap aluminum addons for a cheap aluminum gun. Admire me, admire my home, admire my gun, admire my fucking 400% markup surefire. FUCK.
YES I'M MAD.

Then why are we still not making them?
>>
>>33376804
Ar is better than ak slavaboo
>>
>>33376792
No, Finland has excellent AK variants.
>>
>>33376766
Economy of scale, infrastructure etc. Any dickface can buy a couple CNC machines and turn out AR gimmicks. Imagine if the major AR lower foundrys disappeared and billet lowers weren't a thing, and Joe entrepreneur want to make ARs
>>
>>33376821
It's a better gun, but not a better club.

Because you don't want to pay $2500 for a Mosin.
>>
>>33376813
Of course we do.

>>33376821
I like the part where you have a tube critical to cycling the action sticking out the back for no goddamn reason. I like the part where your action shits the bed in the presence of so much as a butterfly sneeze. I like the part where the gun shits where it eats despite being so intolerant of fouling. Tell me one good thing about this gun of yours that isn't based entirely on it's popularity. Accuracy? Fuddlore and fantasy. SG550 is Kalashnikov action and beats out ARs all day. There is nothing redeemable about the design. It's alive because NATO gobbled up cheap American mass production. America adopted it because they couldn't concede that Russia made something good. They would look weak. Nationalistic bullshit ruined firearms development. God bless. You think I like Russia? Subhuman troglodytes. Still smarter than US military brass though, not like that's saying much.

Is this pasta?
If not, ARs are better because they're cheaper to mass produce via assembly line. It's not just because they're popular it's integral to the design.
>>
>>33376820
We're making better boltguns instead.

>>
>>33376912
ARs aren't cheaper to mass-produce.
>>33376766
>>33376853
AKs are incredibly cheap to produce per unit.
However the startup cost to properly produce AK components is REALLY high and you need to make an absolute shitload of them before shit levels out.
The former ComBloc nations that produce quality AKs didn't have to pay the startup costs for their factories. The State ate the cost and after the Soviet Union disintegrated and many of those companies became private entities they didn't have to change much at all.
Compare this to the US where the capacity to produce high-quality forged parts isn't in line with demand. The amount of AKs Century would have to sell to offset the cost of getting factories up and running that can build the guns right just isn't there.
>>
It's hard to believe the Russians once bought weapons from Americans.
>>
>>33376804
>>33376873
>>33377118
Well put, but I bet the AR memesters wont give a shit.
In their minds denial will prevent their inevitable buyers remorse.
They are just as bad as Glock fags, where the only upside to their platform is the aftermarket.
Everything else about ARs/Glocks is subpar (average at best) in every way.
>>
>>33376766
Because the only people innovating are having to charge obscene prices to stay afloat for more than a month due to the oversaturated AR market.

Back then it was a military contract for a foreign country and machinists were a dime a dozen (literally) whereas now CNC is about the only kind of machining we do and machines (and operators for them and maintenance people and materials) are much more expensive.
>>33377118
This as well.
A few of the old money companies (that haven't been murdered yet) could theoretically pull together the shit to make non crappy AKs but lost of them are catering to fudds at this point.

The main problem is getting the tolerances and QC down, and once that's settled, start into forging things instead of casting them.

Also, fuck trying to make them ultra tactical from the store (I'm looking at you DDI).
I want a regular front sight block and gas block not that retarded ass combo you all use to save money.

And would it kill you all to make them with furniture that ISN'T bright blonde? It kinda kills the aesthetic.

Wait, guys, can you all imagine the likes of Marlin or Winchester or Ithaca marketing an AK-74 pattern rifle?
What would they change (aside from the obvious SCURRY SALT RIFLE image)
>>
>>33377333
Actually, scratch that last one, Ithaca would make one fucking epic AK.
>>
>>33377354
why
>>
>>33376821
doesnt really matter, the AK is a better experience to shoot and if you are really planning on using either to survive SHTF you're die instant. I own neither becuase there are seriously a thousand rifles higher on my wishlist than a pair of mass produced autoloaders, but having shot both I will say there is some joy in shooting an AK whereas the AR provides none.
>>
>>33376792
But Finland never made Mosin receivers
>>

>>
>>33379945
I have no clue. I just saved the auction results for threads like these.
>>
>>33379615
Even their fudd shit tends to be pretty cool and I've never heard any bad shit about them.

I mean, their shotguns are still slamfire right
>>33379750
And even a good portion of their barrels were contracted out.
>>33379639
I actually have found this.
This is why I intend to buy something for emergency purposes that uses AR mags but otherwise is not an AR in any way shape or form.
Too boring, thus I'd find myself not wanting to train whereas training on an AK is a pleasure.

While this post IS bait, I do have to say WHY HASN'T A BUFFERLESS VERSION OF THE AR BECOME THE NORM?!!!!????
It's been over fifty years and that POS is still there, sticking out the back end of all but the most Gucci and expensive of all ARs.

Nah, the 70's and 60's produced its fair share of shit, you just don't see it because it's all gone now.

>And would it kill you all to make them with furniture that ISN'T bright blonde? It kinda kills the aesthetic.

Because Beech is cheap.

It's a decent wood for stocks. Tight grained and durable. And there's lots of it.

Problem is it has all the beauty of a fucking 2x4 from Home Depot. Bleh.

I spoke with the guys at HMG. Told them most folks who would gladly pay $1800 for a rifle wouldn't have a problem with the markup if they went to genuine walnut.

It didn't even have to be PRETTY walnut - nobody's asking for 5A or exhibition grade... just get rid of the fucking Beech...

He said they were seriously considering it. (sure buddy, sure)

>>
>>33380734
The truth isn't bait just because it upsets you. Stop judging your value by the brands or models you buy. Consumerist shit.

>>33380753
It would cost more, negating the primary benefit of buying an AR. Only the "gucci" models feature it because the people buying them have much more money than sense and are buying the brand anyways.

>Beech AK furniture too blond

>Sand the poly and stain down to white wood
>Use oil-based stain to darken wood if that's your game
>Start applying Boiled Linseed Oil
>The finish will cure up and oxidize over time, darkening
Zastava M70s are beech with Linseed oil over it (and often cosmoline).

You can also get it down to bare wood and start throwing shellac on it to replicate a Russian-style finish

Woodworking is fun guys.

I mean that nasty ass slick shit like they have on the RAS-47s and the cheap phillipino 1911 grips.

You cannot make the AR bufferless without thoroughly defeating the point of the AR. Its action is as close to linear as you can get without blowback/recoil operation. It also requires smaller, lighter springs which will more easily take a set and won't last as long. It also forces the springs be located as close as possible to the barrel, which will severely degrade spring life.

The only decent bufferless uppers to be made were the ARAK and Serbu's SU-15. They suffered from being long stroke garbage and from not being put into production, respectively.

The original MCX is unsafe, and the newer MCX are proprietary garbage. Really, you can't even take an AR-15 firing pin?
>>
>>33382195
>because it doesn't have a buffer, the stock has to be out of line with the recoil

What the fuck.
That's wrong.

>it would have to have the springs by the barrel, or have smaller shitty springs

This is exactly what I'm talking about designing around.

I don't mind people having to use a proprietary bolt carrier and even modifying the lower a little (a LITTLE, it would still need to take regular AR grips even if they need modified)

Think something like a heavily modified FAL rat tail style spring thingy in the grip.
>>
>>33381858
Which is which?
>>
>>33381374
>these ridiculous and arbitrary "environmentalist" rules
You're right! We should eliminate these rules like China did.
Then a US city can take the title of "Cancer capital of the world" away from Beijing.
Gotta love that 3rd-world air quality!
