It was the only one they had :(

Oh well, it was this or the Benelli Nova they had for $275. It had a 28 inch barrel on it. Only reason I chose this over that (they were about the same price) is that I didn't like the slide release on the benelli.

They had an 870 express for cheaper than both previous options, but I've heard Remington's QC has gone to utter shit lately.

Better options for 28 gauge loads, including HD loads. Actually, more 28 gauges in general. It's a better choice than .410 for most things.

>>33373806
Why would you want a chrome-lined shotgun barrel? They don't add significantly to the longevity of a barrel (which is already in the hundreds of thousands of rounds on a shotgun) and there are other options for the totally-unneccessary-for-function rust prevention.

Metal trigger packs really aren't important. In fact a lot of the polymer designs are less prone to a stoppage-inducing breakage than the metal ones are, and this is the ONE area of a shotgun where corrosion can significantly impact functionality.

Why would you want the Supernova to get accessories? The Nova does everything it does while being cheaper, lighter, and slightly shorter. The Supernova should be discontinued.

Agreed on Remington.

What kind of new shotgun?

I personally would like to see sub-$700 O/U's that aren't humongous piles of shit.

How is the 320, anyway? Any better than the current, real deal 870's?
>>
>>33376627
FFL here.

Not really, but it's not any worse either. Mechanically it's a Winchester 1300, and takes *some* Win1300 aftermarket. Finish is solid. My big complaint is the HD models come with an iffily attached front sight assembly (pretty sure it's plain ol' soldered instead of brazed or silver-soldered like it should be) and the fiber optic stick rattles around in its hole.

Fitment of the stock and forend aren't great but certainly adequate, especially considering it's a ~$200 shotgun.
>>
>>33376407
"Best" is entirely subjective. Personally I'd go with the Ithaca, assuming the serial is over 855,000 (interchangeable barrels). I'm not a fan of the 1897s exposed bolt, the 520/620 require you to push the forend forward to unlock the action when it's empty, and I've never seen a decent condition model 12 under $500 near me. The only downside to the Ithaca is that it's the only one that doesn't have a take-down design.
>>
>>33376407
None of the above.

Browning BPS. Like an Ithaca 37 except more robust and better built, and usually quite a bit cheaper and easier to find. Retained its slamfire capability well into the 80's but not quite sure on when the switch happened. New-production ones can be safely and easily converted to slamfire as well.

He wants to put a GI heat-shield/bayonet lug on it. BPS wasn't included in the list for that very reason.
>>
>>33376793
If the gunsmith can get the bead stem out with something like an EZ Out, shouldn't take him more than 10 minutes. Beads themselves are cheap (under $5 for a brass bead, around $1.50 for a plastic bead) so figure $30-50 an hour and you're looking at less than $20.

On the other hand if he has to drill it out and re-tap the hole it could take a good while and get pretty expensive.
>>
>>33376849
The bayonet mount for the Ithaca will bolt right up to the BPS though.

Heat shields are dumb, but if he insists it shouldn't be too hard to fabricate a mount for one for a BPS. Also several police agencies and the Marine Reserves used BPS's at one point so there may be an actual correct heat shield available.

I posted the image you guys are talking about. No firearm expert here, but if you look at the barrel on the inside under where the front bead is affixed, you can see what looks like a mark or a dent which was smoothed out. Could be that they have it drilled in on later models, but no clue desu.

Modified is usually what Trap shooters start with. If you need more breaking power you could try going full; you'll be sacrificing spread but your hits will be cleaner.

It is an excellent range gun albeit a bit heavy for an M2, but since is a dedicated slug/buckshot shooter it helps muzzle flip.

It is a big load of fun and very good in the 30 to 60 meter range, hits everything with authority and accuracy.

Pic, it's main diet.

Those are terrible, just so you know:
You can't use it if you use the shotgun slung
And if you have the sling loose then you have a swinging weight hanging from the bottom of your gun and you're fighting the fucker every time you try to pull a shell.
A bandolier BTFOs those slings.

Freedom Group bought Remingtong halfway through 2007. They didn't start making calls on the assembly line until the following year.
It's a pedantic, pissy little point but this is 4chan.
2007 Remington's are fine.

I really want to get a shotgun for my next piece but i'm having a hard time picking. Maybe some of yall can help me.

It has to have wood on it, I just like wooden guns. I'm fine with either over/under or semi-automatic. I want it from a reputable name, high quality like browning or remington. I also want it to be good for a range of things, maybe if I want to go skeet shooting one day or hunt with it, no tactical home defense bullshit.

I've looked at a couple and i've liked so far a used Citori or Remington 1100. Anyone else have any shotguns or opinions on both of those two?

Hmm. This is the first bad things I'm hearing about it, so I'm surprised.
>>
>>33379159
>65cm=25.6"
Huh. Looks like a 30-32" barrel to me, but then again I'm not around M2's all that often.

Are you sure it's a 65cm barrel and not, say, an 85cm barrel?
>>
>>33379566
I own both a Citori 725 (sporting version with the 32" ported barrels) and several 1100's (20ga field magnum, 12ga field, 12ga Classic Trap). Both will serve you well, but 1100's kinda come at a premium because they've been out of production a while outside of the (also expensive due to high-polish bluing and higher grade wood) Classic Trap. Both are excellent shotguns though, and both would serve you well.

The 11-87 was a direct upgrade to the 1100 (functionally identical but comes standard with a 3" receiver and chamber) and can be had new for ~$500 for the basic synthetic Sportsman model or ~$550 for a basic, bland-wood Sportsman model.

Other guns to consider depending on your particular price range and fitment would be a Beretta A300 Outlander, a (probably heavily used) Beretta 686 or 682, Franchi's Affinity O/U, Browning's Synergy (if you like modern/futuristic styling) and CZ's Redhead/Drake/Super Scroll O/U's and 712 semi. A less good but also acceptable option would be Ruger's Red Label O/U, it's good but it's out of production and prices are starting to climb on used ones and they weren't really cheap to start with.
>>
>>33381853
Yes pretty sure. I've also got a 74cm Beretta 682 X for trap and the barrels are noticeably longer. Maybe it's the picture, don't know.

>>33381014
Well, I'm Italian and here Franchi has a very high reputation for the over unders, they are nice and light yet built like tanks. Very dependable guns, but people never buy their semiautos. Well, people rarely buy anything semiauto that is not a Beretta 300 series or an inertial Benelli.
A lot of people swears by the Franchi AL48 'mollone' (big spring) but I never shot one.
>>
>>33379671
Bit of both. It's one of the most reliable semi's made, but it has some unique issues.
>extremely heavy for its size
>kicks harder than its weight should indicate due to its "inertia driven" recoil system
>all US-imported ones are cucked to 4+1 and conversion mag tubes are an additional $100+
>Benelli factory collapsible stock is simply not available by any means, and is really kind of a piece of shit
>civilian-model Benelli M4's don't actually have adjustment notches on their recoil spring tubes so even if you did get a C-stock it wouldn't collapse anyway, this was a feature unique to the M1014
IMO an M2 or M1 Super 90 are better shotguns with identical reliability that're both cheaper and easier to use.
>>
>>33381975
Wrong. The M4 uses a twin piston gas system, called ARGO by Benelli.

You really need to work out. Also, the M4 is gas operated, not inertia-driven. Shows just how much you know.
>all US-imported ones are cucked to 4+1 and conversion mag tubes are an additional $100+
Bitching about a $100 conversion kit, for a $1700-shotgun. Only an issue if you're poor.
>Benelli factory collapsible stock is simply not available by any means,
Yes they are. Most people just won't use them ebcause it adds more parts to the 922r parts count. There's US-made versions though.
>and is really kind of a piece of shit
I'm guessing you have no direct experience with M4s, so this opinion is discarded
>civilian-model Benelli M4's don't actually have adjustment notches on their recoil spring tubes so even if you did get a C-stock it wouldn't collapse anyway, this was a feature unique to the M1014
Only a problem if you have monetary issues. Plenty of aftermarket parts for it.
>IMO an M2 or M1 Super 90 are better shotguns with identical reliability
Nope.
>that're both cheaper and easier to use.
cheap like your opinion, I guess.
>>
>>33382386
I notice an unsurprising lack of heatshield use in 3 gun where guns are basically only mag dumped and then flipped for dropping deuces.
I'm not saying you're wrong about the origin, just that it doesn't seem like they are actually useful even for that.
>>
>>33382962
I think 3 gunners are more concerned about the weight. They have to run around with their gear so they would probably rather have a lighter gun than one with a heat shield.

Also I don't know of any common semi auto shotguns that can mount a heat shield.

the manual action is fun to master & use (kinda like working a bolt-action),

Well, I have some more thinking to do now. I really don't want a Stoeger, because I don't buy Turk guns on principle. Oh well. Maybe I'll just take my chances with the Affinity, because I just can't justify dropping the money on an M2 right now.

>>
>>33384354
Well, you actually cannot justify the price tag on an M2 in any circumstances. They are just more expensive than what they should be.
Mind, they have quality and an excellent customer care; sent mine because it wasn't going in battery every time with my handloads, and they changed the rotating bolt head as they reproduced the issue. THEN they changed, without any charge, all the springs, the forend (was just a bit loose, they changed it anyway), the tube follower, the buttpad I scratched by misuse, and tested it again with a whole range of ammo from different manufacturers and made an official technical report about it.

So very happy with their CS but their guns are overpriced for sure.
>>
