So did all the people who played STALKER grow up and stop playing

The first game came out over a decade ago. The most recent title came out 8 years ago. Even with CoC, there's simply nothing left to discuss.
I didn't grow out of it, but the only things like it in the last 5 years (stalker online, Survarium and soon to be EFT) have been both multiplayer focused and also shallow cashgrabs.

Played through both of them with and without probably 8 times each...I'll do a playthrough once every year or two but...yeah. It'd be nice if there was new one.

iirc GSC disappeared for a number of years and appeared again recently. The CEO still owns the rights to stalker and id imagine there is a good chance he'll act on them and make a new game - stalker is easily their most popular ip. GSC released cossacks 3 last year or so and after theyre done with that and theyve harvested a few shekels id expect stalker to come next

Any opinions on StalkerSoup? It's supposed to combine all three games, plus a bunch of unreleased material into one big, standalone mod. I've been thinking of trying it, but the 7-gig download is a bit much for my crappy rural DSL.

There is a lot of survival games, but what really kind of set STALKER apart from the rest was the idea of getting a treasure. I kind of like that element, because it adds purpose.

I'm playing Call of Chenobyl at the moment.

STALKER is fun, but I like Metro: 2033/LL more. STALKER wins from a gameplay perspective but I was blown away by Metro's setting and atmosphere. I can't wait until 4A drops the deets on their next game.

They are their own games, but their STYLE is like that of expansions. It's "more of the same", using same engine, style, etc. If you don't dig SoC, you prolly won't like the others, that's technically what it means.

There's been tons of such project lately, most recent being the Call Of Chernobyl, which everyone masturbates to nowadays. I personally find it pretty meh; in general, the pure, aimless sandbox gameplay is not the thing that made STALKERs so good in the first place.

I stopped playing it because I'm busy trying to get my life in order, but once I get shit back on track I'll probably get myself a good computer and start playing it again. Seriously, I've restarted playing Call of Pripyat with Misery and The Armed Zone mods at least half a dozen times. Maybe more. I rarely actually get to Pripyat, I just fucking love collecting firearms, amassing ammo, taking down bandits/mercs/Duty, and using realistic loadouts that always have at least one firearm that I have owned IRL. STALKER was SORT of an inspiration for one of my books, mostly the sheer amount of firearms and how I can ogle over them as I find more and more, but it's certainly far from based on the actual STALKER universe.

I'd love to try writing a book set in the STALKER world, but I don't want to risk any copyright stuff, y'know?

Self-published. Give it a try; write that book. I've wanted to write a realistic zombie survival novel for years, and last year I finally did. The amount of pride I felt after I finally accomplished what I wanted to do for years was amazing. Bad word to use, but you could almost call it euphoric. I've since self-published 2 more books, with a 3rd one going in for review as I type. Ought to be finished within about 5 hours or so, I'm actually surprised it's taking this long.

I haven't purchased a video game in years and don't ever intend to buy another, but if STALKER 2 came out I'd spend money on it.
