What kind of autism does Steve1989 have?

What compels a man to eat 50 year old military rations?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swa-CZsfKnI
>>
>>33326054
what kind of autism do you have.

I was curious about steves reaction to some of this food and so i bought some old rations and it turns out there is some real gold in there.
>early 80's freeze dried peaches are fantastic
and
>early 80's chocolate covered cookies are amazing
>>
This one is even more disgusting

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YieLNwaI1uo
>>
>>33326080
Know what's even more fantastic? Chocolate covered cookies and peaches from this century.
>>
I've eaten one from 69
>>
>>33326054
Are they literally from 50 years ago? Must say this is rather impressive if you can still eat it.
>>
>>33326054
I call it "middle age autism". Basically, as men approach middle age they start to become obsessive about their hobbies, probably in an attempt to re-live their carefree days as youth. I've seen it in my dad with heavy duty construction vehicles. He spends at least 3 hours a day watching Youtube videos about it.
>>
When I was a kid, me and a buddy found a complete case of C rats with the "John Wayne" can opener while we were dumpster diving.

Some of the cans were puffed up and we tossed them, the crackers were beyond stale, and the peanut butter was like hard clay with oil on top. I ate a can of very mushy "beef and potatoes" and didn't get sick, but my friend ate cans of peaches and pound cake and shit for 3 days straight.

The strangest thing we found was a can labeled "white bread," and it was a hard little dinner roll looking thing that I threw at another kid walking by, and it left a lump on his forehead.

The cigs and gum were good.
>>
>>33326054
He doesn't always eat the rations. If they're unsafe he just opens them. If anything he'll eat safer things like bread, crackers or chocolate.
>>
>>33326209
The phrase for that is midlife crisis.
>>
>>33326244
Crisis would imply some kind of mental breakdown negatively impacting all aspects of life. No - with middle age autism the individual is perfectly fine other than their obsession.
>>
>>33326241
It's still autistic as fuck. I mean I love the guy, he seems so innocent and probably means well, but man does he come off as a sperg lord

>"Ah, eww, this smells awful"
>"I...I don't know what I'm doing"
>"It tastes like chocolate and motor oil!"
>"Nice!"
>"Decent!"
>"Wow!"
>"Nice!"
>>
>>33326206

In theory, canned food is OK to eat if the can doesn't puff up from bacteria. However, the contents does break down and starts becoming stale, mushy, or just plain slime after long storage.
>>
>>33326054
>What compels a man to eat 50 year old military rations?

Curiosity.

Don't tell me you would not step on a UXO from WWI just to see if it would still detonate?
>>
>>33326295
This reminds me, anybody have the screencap of that anon who had a live tank shell in his house that he'd been using as a coatrack? He said he would go hit the fuse with a hammer to see what happens and then stopped posting
>>
>>33326054

Remember folks - tins WITHOUT peel lids will last decades longer than peel lids. They are inherently weaker.

Tell me more...
>>
>>33326487
It was a few years ago, I'm not sure if anyone still has it or not. But it was a legit tank shell from a M60 Patton. A bunch of guys thought he was bullshitting with a deactivated one but he showed all sides of it and it wasn't drilled or anything and it was heavy as fuck. The dude had literally been using it as a coat rack for years.

I know someone took a screen cap but I haven't seen it in a long time.

I ate stuff as old '56. It was actually pretty good, Charms. The orange ones had really good flavor to them.

Oldest meat was from a Mk. 1 MRE. Beef stew. It was really good full of beefy goodness.

Oldest chocolate and nuts was from a 67 MCI chocolate disk. It had crushed almonds in it that was still good and crunchy. Not a bit of bloom on it.

This. It's fascinating and I have no idea why. I've sat down and binge watched his videos for like 2 or 3 hours at a time. MREs are really interesting
>>
>>33327097
People were doing it before him, it's just the better camera work and flashy titles (it draws a broader crowd). Which is even more impressive. All in all the man gets to do what he loves and in the process of sharing it with the world makes a profit. Nice.
>>
>>33327248
>>33327097
There are dozens of people eating MREs on Youtube, difference is Steve tries to be original and does not bother himself with some boring modern MRE
>today we will eat another US mre that looks like the last one i ate but this time we get chocolate bar instead of raisins!
Whereas Steve managed to find Schokokola from the nazi are and even more he ate it. He's actually entertaining unlike 99 percent of people who do MRE reviews.
>>
>>33326054

>>
My kid brother reminds me of Steve a lot. His room is a nightmare of US Vietnam gear, vinyl records of Elvis, Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and he's on the autism spectrum.

He even had a huge box of MREs our brother in law who's in the National Guard gave him that he ate down to just a few packs that he keeps in his "fallout bunker" in the basement which is just a cement block closet that was already there.

He keeps medkits, quikclot, and other medical toolkits our mom buys him.
>>
>>33326108
nah dawg, you dont get it.

>1st, once those peaches were re-hydrated they tasted fresh as fuck.
>2nd, that cookie tasted great and the fact it was nearly 40 years old made it taste better.
>>
>>33327779
Your brother has autism i'm afraid.
>>
I love this autistic usage of the word "autism" to describe everything and anything.

It's pretty fucking autistic.
>>
>>33326478

nice
>>
Not only is Steve not autistic but he's fit as fuck, clearly works out heavily and also probably does some sort of manual work for his job in order to burn off all those calories. He's also incredibly nice and has a positive attitude and would probably be a good friend to have. He also is really handsome and could probably be rolling in pussy if he wanted to. No homo.
>>
>>33326478
Nice!
>>
>>33327779
Is your brother me? I acted the same way when I was a kid. Constant bullying, torment, and lack of friends in middle school straightened me out and by high school I had learned to hide my cripplingly strange obsessions in order to blend in and make friends. Your brother will be alright.

But yeah I also had a concrete bunker. One time when I was like 12 I asked my dad to buy me my own shovel so I could dig a hole and he did. Him and my mom came out to the back yard like 12 hours later (it was a weekend) wondering what I'd been doing all day. I dug a small trench system in our backyard and lined it with concrete blocks and old timbers from the shed and had moved my old milsurp sleeping gear and stuff into it. I had so much fun doing it but of course the nail that sticks out gets hammered down and my parents put me on so much medication and shit that I was able to make friends and shit at school but I've been pretty depressed ever since.
>>
>>33327779
god fucking dammit>>33327842

kinda fit my friend pretty well. except WWII stuff instead of vietnam. he is also super deep into alt right memes and does an ironic autist "reeeeeeeee!!!" at least once an hour. when im not hanging out with him i think he use his WWII US messkit for every meal. Its the only thing he drinks out of it. He kills me though, i get pretty annoyed. He will start talking about shit i could never care about. HE will start listing off the load data for ammo from 100 years ago and wont stop. We will be watching a movie and he will start telling me the history about 1 character particular hat and im like "fuck dude, we are watching hateful 8. Just watch it."

He's "home schooled" so his people skills are non-existant at 14 and he has slight speech impediment.

I love him to death and wish he actually went to a school to help develop as a person, but my mom took him out and just let him do whatever he wanted so he just stays at home playing video games and watching youtube.

God forbid I tell her that she's stupid for letting him just be a hermit in a basement with no people skills basically making it harder for him to do anything later in life. If he can't even get a GED when he turns 18 he's fucked.

Our mom has turned from a libertarian to a fucking far left liberal that marched at a women's rights March and will just turn any disagreement into an emotional one sided blame game where she puts words in your mouth.

Last time I saw her I yelled in her face in front of my wife because she said that if I supported Donald Trump in anyway I support rape.

Feel bad for him. I try to share our mutual interests with him anytime I see him. I gave him my SADF 83 chest rig, SADF shirt, and a beat up AK mag that had dents stopping the follower for his collection.
>>
>>33328038
Well he sounds a bit more autistic than I was but I guess my advice is to just keep telling your mom he needs to go to public school. Seriously, that shit helped me out a lot. Well I mean I guess it depends on your definition of "helped." On one hand, it really pisses me off that I was basically forced to hide who I really was for fear of being ostracized and ridiculed. But on the other hand, that's just how the world works. Everybody has weird obsessions, but you need to learn to control that shit in public so you can function socially. Is your dad in the picture? Talking to him might help a bit more if he is.

It's really fucking hard to make any notable amount of money from youtube. I forget the exact numbers, but IIRC one million views would probably net you something like $500-600.

Even if you had a two million view video every six weeks, you wouldn't be making enough to live independently outside of real rural areas with dirt cheap rents.\

There's a reason why even some fairly famous guys have patreon accounts.

>Knowing you are still alive and functional.

No. If you expect soldiers or any human being to assess the situation from this standpoint alone, you are very probably mentally disabled and don't understand how others think.

Moral is:
>knowing that you might be able to live despite the hardship
>knowing that your efforts aren't all for nothing
>knowing that you have something to look forward to, even if it's as small as a good meal, a cigarette, or an hour to yourself.

I ate those in Desert Shield. They aren't too bad though later MREs are much better and recent offerings are popular snacks on deployments when walking to the chow hall isn't worth the effort.

Foodfags should just eat whatever gourmet chow pleases them. MREs are functional. I lived on them for about nine months with no problems. OTOH a chow hall TCN used non-potable water and got most of the base sick. Not me.

C-rations were decent too. Fruit cocktail and date nut bread were good by civilian standards. Ham and limas needed Tabasco but I didn't mind them.

G.I.s bitch about everything. It's their nature. If you are a sensitive snowflake then don't enlist.

Eating historic food is a fine way to learn.
