Any SERE guys on here? Recruiter just told me some slots opened up, and it's pretty much my dream job, so I'm going for it. PAST in 3 weeks, really need to do some water training. Just looking for any stories, past experiences, or opinions on the job.
>>
When you get to fairchild make sure to beat your wife, youre not a real instructor until you do.
>>
>>33323513
Got lumped in with a SERE flight back in basic. Only 1 out of 40 made it through selection, and 20 of them were kicked from the course before we even graduated basic. Apart from having physical fitness, be mentally prepared for that shit, that's what got the majority of them in selection
>>
Be me.
In navy 7 years now.
Reminisce.
19 years old
Swimming during pre dep with real navy udt and diver types.
Swim 8 min 500 meter sidestroke
Hellyeah.png
Do 35 plus pull ups
Drools
Does 105 push ups and crunches in 2 mins.
Does a 9 minute mile and a half run.
Qualifies for navy diver school.
Fuck yeah gonna be spec ops underwater blow em up type.
Get to bootcamp, swim 6000 meters throughout the day, pretty much live on running miles and swimming.
Pass bootcamp.
Go to diver school with guys who made it through bootcamp. Hell yeah
First day of dive school
Tread water for 8 hours straight.
19 people drop day one.
End of week, 45 out of 110 left
Graduate after over a year of training
23 of us made it.
Go back to school for 2 more years of specialized ordinance and weapons training, sere school, ect.
18 of us left from injuries and other issues.
Gotta have alpha alpha mental toughness. Skinny guys dropped first, you literally need the fat for energy.
Practice running and swimming. For hours at a time. Find your happy place and you will succeed.
4 years later only 8 guys from my class left.
Sucks man, but worth it if you want to serve your country. You wont have long relationships, but the job is fun and you make a fuck ton of money.
>>
>>33324925
>Tread water for 8 hours straight.

You cannot be serious.
>>
>>33323513
unless you're alpha, in amazing shape mentally and physically, and don't mind seeing others suffer horrifically you will not make it. Bitch.

You're not going to make it. 85-90% washout rate currently.
>>
>>33323513
GarandThumb down in /gq/ is a SERE specialist/instructor.
>>
>>33324925
>Does a 9 minute mile and a half run.

Were you walking?
>>
>>33325759
That's a 6 minute mile faggot
>>
>>33325730
That's fine. I'm qualified for any enlisted job in the Air Force, so I might not even end up in a shit job if I drop out. Not the best mentality to go in with I know, but I'm a realist, and I'll never know if I don't try.
>>
>>33324925
Sounds like an awesome experience man, thanks for sharing. Any stories about operating operationally you'd like to tell?
>>
>>33323949
Kinda figured the mental stuff would be the worst. Spent all day raging about onisions air force video where he claims he was doing fine at SERE school until they wanted him to skin a rabbit.
>>
>>33325696
Dead serious.
They were testing our mental and physical endurance.
>>
>>33325759
EDGE
>>
Former security faggots here.
Anyone have experience with 1a9x1 special missions aviation? I'm looking to go back in, but I'm not sure my knees can handle tacp.
>>
>>33326664
Since im a diver i don't get to do the land based stuff, like iraq and afghan. Flew through both but not long enough to really experience anything there besides the food. Camp Leatherneck was pretty good chow.
Got to go under the artic circle in a submarine and test some top notch sub zero dive tech.
Get to work with dolphins that have cool go pro equipped mine seeking headgear.
Dont know why but even divers get badass weapons to choose from on deployment.
Learned underwater demolition stuff. Blew up a couple minor enemy things.
Get to use sweet as dive equipment to go to classified depths (mariana trench depths) and see crazy stuff.
Recover lost nukes in the ocean with contractors.
Pretty much get paid to work out everyday and go on some cool and some boring operations.
>>
>>33326664
One cool story
Be me
Underwater
Strapped in underwater exploration pod looking for a thing
See a whale.
Whale comes close
Whale head rams pod.
Whale swims away
Largest squid ive ever seen on tv or life swims by
Whale swims back 10 minutes later with bloody tentacle dragging out of mouth and cut up body.
Thats the day i realized whales are the warriors of the deep
>>
>>33328125
So you visited the Mariana Trench nuclear base then?
>>
>>33326618
advice: Do not attempt to dream in your mind, do not attempt to entertain any other thought than to accomplish the objective or mission ahead of you. Do not daydream of what could be when you run, what you will do when you fail. Do not forget to keep moving your legs as wide as they need to when you run, when you move. Short small steps feel better, but expend more energy.

Do not waste time on the people around you outside of them being part of your team. You are in the Airforce, not the Army or Marines. There is no brotherhood, and you are to an extent, an individual. They wont smoke you for failing, just document in paperwork and send you on your way. Its cold. Its fucking ruthless, and its very, very efficient.

You will learn to love hard, grueling tasks not because you enjoy them. No. To enjoy, is not to want. Enjoyment is a base reward system that you will eventually replace with bitter resolve. You will come to expect that same iron out of everyone else, and be silently disappointed when your subordinates or leadership fail to express it.

I'm not being hard, I'm being fucking honest. The hardest part of all of this, is after you are done; remembering how to also be a person again.

tl/dr: burn what you want, burn your desires, hopes, fuck, even fears. Embrace the mission, the concept of resolve and defiance, to a degree obedience, and excellence as who you are going to be. Anyone who makes fun of this will never be a SEER or any other job that demands excellence in every category.

By the way, good luck Anon. If you wash out, you dont get your pick of the jobs. They banish you to 2A duty or SecFo. Dont get me wrong, they suck, I did 2A, and learned to work 14 hour days every day, no weekends, total misery and job perfection on top of additional duties. I hated my life, but I did a fucking amazing job at what I did, and never hit the bottle.
>>
>>33328431
btw. Things like being so cold your hands dont bleed until you warm up is a thing, and it happens on the reg because its part of the job.
>>
>>33328431
This. Fucking this.
I couldn't handle treading water for 8 hours. 5.5 hours in I was Fucking done.

There is no past or future, only the present and the mission on hand.

And yeah, found the bottle after "failure".

Good luck anon. God speed
>>

>TFW the thread hardens up so much everyone just walks away due to the joy of life being sucked away in 3 posts.
>>
>>33323949
I'm confused, is SERE an occupation? Like a SERE instructor, or is just part of training for certain special ops groups?
>>
>>33328730
It's kind of both a spec ops and instructor. Basically you go through all the shit you're supposed to teach about until you know it by heart and then you instruct that shit to everyday cucks that need the info
>>
>>33328730
SERE Instructor is an occupation

SERE training is required for many career fields.

I know guys who went to Sere. Are you fucking retarded. It's not even an MOS, it's a billet.
>>
>>33324925
Is this for the military diving or the naval diving?
>>
>>33325696
In terms of caloric expenditure, if you can walk for 8 hours you can tread water for 8 hours. Unless your form really sucks...

>>33328891
m8 I've practically lived in the water since I was a toddler. Unless you're treading with those rubber covered bricks, treading is a cake walk.
>>
>>33328906
I was just adding to what you were saying, not arguing.
>>
>>33328906
Disgusting European and "m8".

I've lived in the water BS. God damn you suck.
>>
>>33328929
Ice landers live closer to North America and don't count.
>>
>>33328962
Who cares about Iceland you imbocile? The point is you're dumb as shit.
>>
>>33328929
I'm an American. I grew up next to a lake and joined my local swim club when I was like 4. I can't even remember when I joined it was so young. Throughout highschool and college I worked lifeguard and instructor jobs. The first time I kissed a girl was in a swimming pool.

>>33328919
Oh, I thought you were trying to educate me. That video isn't bad, it shows how little effort it takes to swim.
>>
>>33328990
Germany is landlocked.
>>
>>33329015
Are you stupid or something?
>>
>>33329015
Not during 1942.

I'm not going to link the other guy.
>>
>>33329035
>Not during 1942.
Not today either......
>>
>>33329049
It's very small. Like pathetic. You might think it's something if you're European.but it's nothing.
>>
>>33329065
A short coast is still a coast. Germany is not landlocked.
>>
>>33329081
French people can only swim South.
>>
>>33329081
Little pimple dick. The sorry thing is I'm an American with German Heritage. And you speak my language to converse. So who cares about your little shit country? Should of gotten on the boat.
>>
>>33329094
I don't understand what you're trying to convey. Perhaps it's because you're a European who struggles with the American language.
>>
>>33329110
>because I'm not completely geographically retarded, I must be a European
Nice self-deprecation moron. Not all Americans are as retarded as you.
>>
>>33329152
No you aren't. Why pretend?

>>33329166
Your reason for thinking I am a European is... what exactly? Protecting your ego by excusing your ignorance by blaming America? Fuck yourself.
>>
>>33328125
Neat. Gotta agree Leatherneck was great chow. Was there in 2010.
>>
what a terrible job to have. I'm a pilot who went through SERE and if you're a normal human being I would recommend something else.
>>
>>33331996

after their time instructing SV80 you can be a normal person at a normal base doing SERE refreshers.

and SV80 could just be professional camping. overall SERE instructor is a pretty cool job.

i like flying fighters more, though.
>>
>>33329315
You are stupid as fuck. As most European people are.
>>
>>33323513
I knew a guy who got kicked out of tech school because he didn't know how to sew.

Honestly OP, just put down Security Forces or Maintenance. That's where you'll probably end up anyways
>>
>>33333229

seriously?

sewing's a pretty essential survival skill, both in everyday life and as an isolated personnel.
>>
>>33333333
>>
>>33326618
>I might not even end up in a shit job if I drop out.

Thats where you're wrong/ When you drop out, you dont go down to the next coolest thing on your personal list. Not at all

In the AirForce you go straight to Helicopter Mechanic if you're lucky

In the Navy you go chip paint.

Army and Marines you go infantry if you're lucky, POG if you suck.

There are a thousand dudes with better asvab scores lining up right behind you man. Do NOT flunk out of tech school
>>
>>33328431
>hard, grueling tasks
>In the airforce

want to know how I know you've never been on a joint services base?

Airforce tech school is a fucking nonstop sorority party compared to anything in any other service,

fucking seer is no joke, but its less than a quarter of what a seal goes though.

This whole schpeil is the silliest shit I've ever heard motivationally, and for fucks sake.... I've heard ALOT.

"burn your hopes, desires, fears..." lol.

show up to service and do your homework, tada.
>>
>>33333164
>i like flying fighters more, though.

what bird, what wing. help us out, we have a real hardon for the fun shit. Id strangle a Rear Admirals step-daughter to fly a Saber. Ended up doing engineer shit because I could engineer better than I could suck instructor cock
>>
>>33334099
Forgot to mention I was born in the wrong decade. Wanted to fly f-86 when I was little. Then f-4 now that Ive "grown-up"
>>
>>33328854
Navy
>>
Not gonna make it. Kid I went to basic with literally died during training.
>>
>>33324925
go away garandthumb
>>
>>33334067
>he's a marine
shut up dude you look like an idiot.
>>
>>33335450
What's your little problem? He didn't even say he was in the Marines.

I'd call you Jody but let's be honest. You're not sleeping with anyone.
>>
>>33333229
All I'm saying is I'm fine doing those things for a term. Even if I'm bored out of my gourd for 4 years, it's better than asphalt paving(my current job). But SERE really appeals to me, and I won't know if I can do it till I try.
>>
>>33334015
Well next jobs on my list are E67 or security forces, so I don't think my chances are that bad
>>
>>33335506
>he's also a marine
>>
>>33335149
Naval diving is equivalent to commercial diving, but military diving is like saboteur work that I guess would be associated with Navy Seals if anything.
>>
>>33337108
Navy divers do udt stuff too
>>
>>33338367
Ah, so they both do.
>>
As in SERE instructor?
Goddamn that sounds like such a shit job
>>
>>33334067
Im the guy you were trying to make fun of. I worked RAF lakenheath, Bagram AFB, and finished out at Edwards, which was a cake walk. I spent the first half of my Career in a constant state of war time readiness, generating sorties and being constantly grilled for LSATS and other basewide inspections.

I did augmentee duty with Security Forces several times at home and down range.

Want to know how I know you a bitch who never served or were some stateside never deployed faggot? you talk about tech school, you talk about the individual branches like that is important. You have a total lack of focus on the mission.
>>
>>33338867
Probably dont even have your DD214 you are so green.
