Convert Interstate overpasses into forts. Lots of concrete already there. Lower part can be enclosed to hold men and guns and the upper part can hold anti-air and heavy weapons, plus provide observation.

Are you fucking retarded? How many apartments are in new york city? How much food and water do you imagine is here? If you are smart, not greedy and disciplined you could go from building to building as per usual just taking supplies back to your apartment. Its not hard, the neighbors aren't armed and nobody is going door to door like you are because they are in another building on another floor somewhere else doing exactly that. Nobody wants to die, nobody wants confrontation and everybody has something to lose.

deep bunkers also help with digging under it and can hold supplies to help with starving you out

Well it depends on the budget, if you want a basic defensive line for a camp sandbags and shovels is all you need, dig some gun pits, if you have time fill sand bags and dig grenade slumps in the bottom of each pit. Adding some comforts for sentries is good too (camo netting is great for concealment and shade).

Honestly if you want to make some walls and shit block would probably be the easiest but to make it strong enough for small arms you'd defiantly want rebar + concrete fill. But it wouldn't stand too many hits even then I think. More serious and your talking expensive stuff like concrete bunkers. (You can make timber bunkers too but all that means earth and form work and a lot of materials.)

Basically if you want some cheap defenses dig down dont build up
