So what are the main concerns people here have with remingtons QC lately? is it because of the problems their rifles safeties were having? Or is there something else going on at remington? And what exactly has happened?

TL;DR tell me why I shouldn't get a new 870.
>>
>>33318794
there shotguns over last few years were having ejection issues
yes ejections issues in a pump
really makes you question the quality of the gun if they fuck that up
and it run and has been run by a big company aka remington is just a name now like colt or Springfield
>>
the simple reason is the express isnt worth what they are charging when compared to the past guns, the direct knockoffs, or mossberg. if you dont care that you are overpaying for shit get one.
>>
>>33318794
just buy an older one bruv
>>
>>33318839
All you need to do to fix this is polish the chamber. You shouldn't have to do it, but it's not like it's a big fucking deal.
The major issue for me is the rusting. You basically will want to get it Cerakoted ASAP.

You shouldn't buy a 870 because 870 is dildo tier. You should invest your hard earned shekels in one of these bad boys, /k/omrade.

Why would you buy a new 870 when the used market is full of them? Well built older 870s are everywhere.

>not buying a Benelli

Magnetic feed ramps are a simple luxury that you could never appreciate until you've experienced them
>>
>>33318794
I had an 870 with under 1K rounds almost explode on me at a 3gun match. I won't be buying another.
>>
>>33319189
This was a new production one, not an older one.
>>
>>33319181
Apart from the mossy, Benelli Supernova is also a very nice shotgun, expensive and fun to operate but if you want a shotgun that you can literally beat the shit out of and it will keep running as long as you feed it, go Mossberg. I've rolled 250 rounds through mine and not one failure.
>>
>>33318794
I got an 870 last year because it was on sale. No rust yet, no cycle issues. Only cleaned it the one time.

Seems fine to me, but I do prefer the controls of my Moss 590, though the 870 LOP is perfect.
>>
>>33318794
Mine (870 Wingmaster) had ejection problems. They were easy to fix, but they shouldn't have existed in the first place. Volquartzen extractor, polish chamber, polish "rough spot" on rear of barrel. It runs great now.
>>
>>33319218
I have a Nova, and it operates the same as a Supernova (I think the only differences are stock and trigger guard). Less expensive, same performance, but not a lot of people seem to know about it
>>
>>33319258
From what I've seen an heard they are quite similar. Only difference is I bought the 28" barrel trap/bird gun. I rarely bring it out because it just feels like a prissy gun, I took it camping two years ago, in 12 hours of humidity and rain she rusted right up and it wasn't the easiest thing to pump. After a 3 hour cleaning session, it's stayed in the safe ever since.
>>
>>33319336
holy shit, where do you live that 12 hours outside could rust up a gun?

Rocky mountains mid september. Fuck was it humid. I seen sunshine, rain, freezing rain and snow all in those 12 hours.
I seen a video on youtube on how to keep your blued barrels from rusting and the old timer said he used some brand of bicycle oil, applied it to his barrel, let sit for a few hours, wipe clean and she's waterproof and wont rust. Should find that video again, might come in handy.

I got one two months ago for hunting, mostly, but it'd certainly do for home defense. I love the thing, and I'm always surprised no one talks about it, since it's right in the price neighborhood of the mossy, 870, and nova, and it's my favorite of that bunch.
>>
I just bought a 870 for $330 four hours ago. Did I fuck up?
>>
I picked up a police used Mossy 590A1 for $250...thing had barely been fired. Couple dings but these shotguns are more than adequately built to get bounced around a bit. Probably spent most of its time in the trunk of a cruiser.

An 8+1 shotgun with a heat shield and lug for less than $300 is a pretty good deal. 500 rounds through her with nary a problem.
>>
>>33319336
You can get an 18.5" barel. Changing them out is easy.
>>
>>33318794
Everything they make is poorly designed and sloppily executed. The triggers are heavy, the barrels are inaccurate, the stocks are not free floated, you have to fight the actions to get them to work. This company is a train wreck. Buy Tikka instead.

>>
>>33320910
i found one of the new Sandusky, Ohio Ithaca 37 defense models used online for a steal. Bought it up in a hurry. I've played around with a lot of 37s and I actually believe the newer shotguns from their new Ohio company are even better than the old New York guns. Not that there's anything wrong with an older 37. There are a lot of them on the used market. If you look around they can usually be had for not much more than $250-$350. Tell me what you'd like to have senpai. I know a pawn shop around here that has like 20 of them around those prices.
>>33320913
I'm not a lefty. I just like Ithaca. First time I ever picked one up and felt how smooth the pump action was I knew they were the shotguns for me. Plus they use milled steel receivers which is a major positive for me. Makes the gun a lot more robust and better balanced since most of the weight is in the receiver. Not to mention because no ejection port you can pull back the pump and open the action, pack it with your favorite flavor of the maui wowwie and rip it like a massive pipe just like our pappies and grandpappies did in the 'Nam. I absolutely love mine.
>>
>>33318794
>pistols
The R51 won't go 50 rounds without a failure to feed or fire, and won't go 500 rounds without parts breakage. The R1, one of their "good" products, suffers from inconsistent finishes and chatter in the rifling on almost all examples.
>shotguns
Guns are shipping incomplete, the V3 and Versamax have documented instances of shipping with no gas system installed and the 870 Wingmasters are shipping with no lift gate or front bead occasionally. Chambers are out of spec (rough, oversized to the point of splitting hulls, out of round). Burrs everywhere, even on their "high QC" guns like their Wingmaster and Police models.
>rifles
Scope base mounting holes horribly out of alignment. Boogered threads on basically everything threaded. X-Mark Pro trigger group's safety tripping the sear and firing when disengaged. Firing pins breaking after single box of ammo. Rifles shipping with out of spec chambers (short, deep, oversized, off center, rough, basically every possible way of fucking up a chamber). Rifles that are so ridiculously out of true they visibly look bent. Rifles shipping with action screws torqued into bolt lugs hard enough gun is both inoperable and cosmetically damaged. Guns shipping with action screws torqued hard enough to crack the stock. Guns shipping with broken action screws that've been Elmer's-glued in place to keep them from falling out. Muzzle crowns that look like they were freehanded with a ball-end mill in a cordless drill. Barrels shipped with no crown at all, the muzzle is rough-sawn.
>over-all QC
Inconsistent and splotchy finishes that rust in transit. Guns shipping incomplete. Gun boxes shipping with no gun inside. Guns with extensive crush/impact damage arriving in pristine serial-correct boxes implying the shipping dept. at Remington knowingly put a ruined gun out the door.

From the Ithaca 37 wiki page:
> On most models up to 1975, a second sear was installed that would drop the hammer as soon the gun went into battery if the trigger was in a depressed condition. Thus, holding the trigger down allowed the gun to fire the instant a new round is cycled into the chamber without requiring the trigger to be released.

What is the name of this feature? I'd like to buy a shotgun with this capability.

Slamfire. Old Winchester 1897's could slamfire, too.

I've heard tell that the new production Chinese copies of the 1897 carried over the slamfire capabilitiy--though that may be an anon telling tales out of school.

I don't think any modern production still slamfires. I know for a fact that the new Inland Manufacturing/Ithaca partnership does not allow slam-firing, and it's over priced at $1200

Slam firing is seen as a safety concern today I doubt many guns have it is a feature. A Chinknockoff may have it as an accident.

Ever since Remington was bought out by freedomgroup© there stuff has been subjected to corporate changes, I.e. different quality control procedures.

Older Remington stuff is awesome. But newer things produced post-merge haven't lived up to the Remington name.

Also I thing freedoms group is owned by China, so if you buy Mossberg you keep your money American.

Also, features the mossberg590 has over (or has the same as) the 870 or 870 express:
>lug
>tube extensions
>drilled and tapped receiver for optics mounts
>screw in ejector, not rivited
>loading gate lifts up
>aluminum receiver(good or bad I guess)
>tang safety
>same price, or less, at better quality (post-freedom group remington vs. Mossberg)
>better ergos (debatable, think slide release position.)
>only shotgun to lass military trials

Probably more I'm not thinking of.
With used mossy 500/590's for sale between 300-450, your money is best spent on a 590.

NOTHING.

Everyone who spouts the nonsense about Remington QC dropping after they were acquired by the supposed "liberal" Cerberus group is a fucking copy&pasta retard.

When you take into account the the volume of products they manufacture, defects will be higher but NOT disproportion to production volume as compared to any other product.

The only issue is that witch Internet technology, a defective product gets much more attention as it spreads through social media (forums, chans, twitter, blogs, etc) and falsely projects a bigger problem.

Buy what you want, if you have an issue, Remington will repair and/or replace it. under warranty just like any other product/company would. It's just that guntards like to talk up a good "operator/specialist" game, out of their ass.

Of course the new meme is get a Benelli.
