I'll start off by saying I don't know shit about guns - but here's a question. If all the parts of a gun are metal, why don't people buy a few blocks of metal and make their own guns? What's stopping the average person from milling or using a CNC machine to make an AK?

please change that into
>I don't know shit about metallurgy, machining, or really anything that deals with hand labor besides masturbating.

Well an ak needs rivits and a barrel press ...ect. but honestly that's one of the arguments against gun control laws, with tin snips a file or two , a drill and some patience (alot of the former mind you). You can make something simple(er) like a stein gun.
Making s gun thats functional for 1k rounds is not brain surgery.
A kinda rip off mac10 can be made pretty easy too.......

Tldr: look up shovel ak, a dude does just that, he chose to make it semi auto, an auto is not more complicated, especially for open bolt mg's and sub guns.
>>

You can't answer the question then. Okay dude, thanks for the bump.
>>
>>33318499
You can, but most people with tools and skills either don't care enough, or they do it within the confines of relevant laws.

Damn that thing looks nasty. I love it.

I'll start off by saying I don't know shit about cars - but here's a question. If all the major parts of a car are metal, why don't people buy a few blocks of metal and make their own cars? What's stopping the average person from milling or using a CNC machine to make a basic automobile?

Its difficult and a major pain in the ass to do correctly.
>>
Short answer:
It's hard

Long answer:
It's doable, but a fully homemade AK would very likely be absolute ass. A pipe shotgun is about the extent of entirely homemade firearms.

>all the parts of a gun are metal

>posts a gun with wood furniture
>>
Like building anything else, there's a knowledge and tool requirement to build anything better than a pipe gun. Most (good) guns require a degree of precision the average person isn't capable of in their garage.

Access to milling and CNC machines

Using a CNC machine requires a basic understanding of the machine itself and the firearm. Also most firearms are made of stamped steel requiring a specialised machine to stamp the framework. Rifling with be difficult if not impossible and and build quality will not be good as factory.
Its more practical to buy rather than build, saves you the hassle and time. You could make a revolver with basic tools although it will look crap and use up a lot of time.
>>
you could but you couldn't easily mass produce it with a little operation, each gun you would make would not be interchangeable and the reliability questionable. The factory exists for a reason.

They do occasionally though.
However obtaining dimensions and more importantantly tolerances are a pain in the ass, as is getting shit set up to cast or forge the castings/forgings to make the parts.

People build parts kits here all the time though.
