Hey /k/, is the Mossberg 702 Plinkster a good babby's first rifle? I've never had the cash since I'm a poorfag but I've got enough saved up to finally into guns.
I want to put an adapter on it to turn the 3/8" dovetail mount into a picatinny rail, and put a dot sight and possibly a low profile laser on the rail.
I can't tell if this is bait or not...if you want to tacticool out a .22 save yourself a few steps and buy a .22 ar clone or something, you can find one that already has rails.
>>33312794
If you want tacticool get the Mossberg 715t.
>>33312809
If I could get a .22 AR clone for the price of a 702 Plinkster and a rail adapter I would.
>>33312794
The 702 plinkster is a good rifle for shooting at paper at a $150 Brazilian gun+ammo costs, aside from that it's a poor choice for your first rifle. Save $50 and get a 10/22. They have a rail for both dove tail and weaver mount.
>>33312794
Ignore all these idiots OP, they work just fine, for $150 you can't go wrong. Only thing that sucks is mags are expensive and the dovetail.
>>33312794
its a maximum poorfags only option. the extra 20 bucks spent on a marlin will get you a much better quality gun.
>>33312830
Not OP here, but I was thinking for a while about getting a 10/22 but I couldn't find anything online or from the sticky under $300. I'm new to the process too and am wondering how one might find one for $50.
>>33312794
marlin 795 is better. can be had for like 120 if you shop around.
>better out of box accuracy
>pro mag makes good cheap reliable 25 round mags
>marlin 795 dissably is 2 screws(from what I understand the plinker is a bitch to clean)
>if you show up to the range with a red dot and laser on your .22 everyone will think you're possibly retarded.
>>33312845
My local Academy has wood and synthetic 10/22's for $209.99, I'd have no problem buying a 10/22 after tax for $230 considering the fact that it's the best .22lr rifle for the money.
>>33312853
>pro mag makes good cheap reliable
Don't ever trust pro mag ever. Everything they produce is shit.
>>33312900
the best 22lr for the money is marlin
stock marlin will shoot circles around a bonestock 10/22. of couse the second you start upgrading the ruger its better but then its a money pit.
>>33312900
bullshit
10/22 a shit
marlin 795 or 60 is cheaper and more accurate>>33312845
sold my 1022 getting a marline 60 in a few days and hell its even cheaper
>>33312913
the 795 is significantly more accurate out the box than any others. Also has a last shot hold open that the other cheap plinkers don't have.
way to look at the 795:
>best out of the box
>no after market
>>33312928
>after market
>.22
Sadly, upgrading a 10/22 is like polishing turd. How much to outshoot a marlin at cheaper price? I boguht a 10/22 fell for the meme, felt like shit, im stoked as hell for my marlin 60.
>>33312794
Then just buy a 10/22.
>>33312928
the 795 has like the 4th or 5th best aftermarket of the 22plinkers. its pitiful compared to the 10/22 but you can actually get things like stocks and triggerguards.
>>33312900
>>33312913
Damn /k/, I could really do with an honest consensus. My uncertainty about which to purchase as my first gun is bad enough.
>>33312951
literally whatever you do don't get the savage 64.
>>33312943
>A gun I don't even have is better than a gun I don't have.
Wtf, nigger?
>>33312954
fuck you i love my savage
>>33312794
Spend $30 more and get a 10/22 on sale.
>>33312794
Yeah it's not the worst choice but I'd go with a Ruger 10-22 (WAAAAY more aftermarket mods for that which it sounds like you are into) or a Marlin (just a better weapon, noticeably more accurate, maybe $50 more?)
There was a recent sale on 10/22s for like $179.
>>33312951
It is really simple to be honest; here the consensus would be to get a Marlin if you don't plan to upgrade or spend money to accessories, or buy a 10/22 and have access to enough parts to modify that rifle to the moon and back circling the earth in the meanwhile.
I live in the EU so I went obviously for the Marlin 60, as I got a more accurate and honestly, better looking rifle out of the box.
Only real problem of the rifle is the trigger guard: i broke two of them before I got my hands on a (don't ask me how) DIP inc. alloy guard and now I have a very nice rifle for life.
It eats even subsonic target ammo no problem. Accurate as hell.
>>33312794
It's really not.
Get a 10/22
>>33312794
Clyde says its fine, doenst jam and works as intender.
Chap as hell too.

>>33312853
>promag
>reliable
It sucks, OP. I have had one for a while and it jams every couple of mags no matter the ammo. Cheap .22 is a cheap .22 but I don't regret buying it because it was an expendable $70 or whatever onsale at cocksportinggoods. If you're into that kindof thing, it can also be removed from the stock and put in a shitty airsoft shell for "maximum" kool-ness.
>>33312913
>marlin 60
>bullshit magazine tube that is mega flimsy
>have to load tube at the muzzle
>can't have a suppressor or it blocks you from reloading, so you'd have to remove and replace it for each reload
I am looking to get a semi 22, and I would buy a marlin 795 over a 10/22 - I don't plan on putting any aftermarket junk on a 22 so it makes no sense to buy the ruger
If you want rails and optics and shit all over it get one of the cheap assault rifle/pistol clones that just gets chambered in 22. It's a better option than spending money on parts to mod a cheaper rifle. Something like a M&P 15-22 is pricier than the competition.
here's a decent review of the top 3.
