Sup, /k.

I've had a hard on for FN's P90 since I was a kid, and that only got worse after a guy at the range let me have a go with his SBR PS90.

I already have a decent AR and a G19, so I feel as though I have the basics covered, and I want to fill the gap between those two weapons with a subgun. It's compact, bullpup design is pretty sexy, and I would probably send in a Form 4 on it at some point so it would be super compact. 50 round mags and AP capabilities aren't bad either, although the ammo is expensive as fuck.

Before I seriously considered the PS90, I was thinking about getting a RONI enclosure or something similar for the Glock, but I'm starting to think that PS90 would serve me better, even if it is a bit larger.

What do you think? Is the PS90 a meme gun? Are there any alternatives you think I should consider?
>>
You already have an AR and a G19 for boring, practical guns. If you want to SG-1 cosplay with the PS90 go for it.
>>
>>33295626
mp5, kriss vector

Too bad the market has fucked these. They used to go for 800$, now you're lucky to get them for 1,400.
Ammo prices are kinda fucked compared to 9mm and 45
>>
My dude everyone needs a "just because" fun gun. Do it if you have the money.
>>
>>33295663
lol, true. I agree it does look super futuristic and cool...

Do you think it's also practical??? Because function is a big concern for me as well
>>
>>33295626
Go for it. The 5.7x28 round is especially nasty out of the PS90s 16" barrel and even the 10" barrel if you remove the extension.
>>
>>33295688
I don't think anyone has ever bashed the PS90 for being a BAD gun. It's just an EXPENSIVE gun. If you can afford to buy it, SBR it, and feed it, then it's a fine choice.
>>
>>33295675
Pretty much this
Over half the crap I own are range toys

If you want it for a home defense gun, it's honestly not bad. Reliable, compact, low noise, low flash, low recoil, 50 rounds to a mag, easy to keep shouldered and aim with one hand leaving your support hand free, muh wound vectors, etc.

If that's what you want it for, I wouldn't SBR it though. It's plenty compact even with the long barrel, and I wouldn't want the potential trouble of having used an NFA weapon in self defense.

It's also not much of a difference to SBR it, you can't even really tell a difference from behind the muzzle, it's just slightly less compact.

Biggest con I would say for home defense is that the trigger is long and mushy which makes shooting very rapidly near impossible.

Yeah, that's one reason I was drawn to it. It might look wimpy, but the ballistics don't fuck around.

>>33295699
That is the dilemma for me. I'm a college-fag, third year, and I got a bit of savings. I basically want a go to hobby/toy gun that will keep me satiated for a while.

>>33295850
Good insight man, thanks. And nice collection btw, jealous.

That trigger bit is a little worrying for me. I didn't pay too much attention to it when I shot one at the range, but I'll have to give it a second go and focus on that.

In my defense, the AR wasn't my first rifle. It was actually an SLR-107 by Arsenal... damn good AK.
>>
If you want a silly movie gun to make range fags jelly; just get it.

Sure the ammo is expensive but you wont shoot it more than a few times a year.
The trigger is just ok but not horrendous.
5.7 out of that 14 inch barrel performs better than many will admit.

Plus the gun is stupid accurate for something that's not a rifle.
>>
>>33295626
Stop trying to justify your gun purchases anon. Buy it cuz you want it, there is no shame in admitting that.
>>
>>33295626
If you want it, go for it. You can get them for just shy of 1k if you are persistent. You have to get it SBRed for best results. And ammo is kind of pricey.

But in the end
>do it, OP
>be the faggot you know you can be
>>
>>33295626
Its meme as fuck because 5.7 is trash
At least get a good meme like the MP5
It costs more, but youll save on ammo and have an MP5
>>
>>33297503
Same.

There is nothing else out there like it.
A couple years ago I decided I wanted a silly gun and choose the ps90.

A sub 2000 is much cheaper to shoot, but I don't like the recoil on my 2000.

Put a fixed 4x or 6x scope on the ps90 and the aluminum hammer; you'll out shoot many 10/22s at 100 yards.
>>
>>33295626
Do it, you have your practical bases covered. Everyone needs some fun guns, I bet a P90 is a fucking blast. I've held one; it feels really nice and the trigger wasn't bad. One of those things that you bring to the range and everyone wants to see it. Always nice to share a unique gun like that with others.
>>
>>33297611
Yeah, worst part of the ps90 is cost of ammo.
Roller delayed blowback on a suppressed mp5 is pretty good, but still recoils more than a nice AR.

MP5 clones are as much as the '90, an SBR Scorpion Evo pistol is the best PDW for $1000

Check out PSA, they regularly have 5.7 for very reasonable prices. Like $14 a box of 50 which is what you'll pay for 9mm in most LGS'.

My buddy has an SBR MP5. Amazingly fun gun to shoot. With his suppressor, it is unreal. My 9mm AR SBR has a tremendous amount of recoil in comparison due to the blowback action and heavy bolt/heavy buffer. It's always surprising how accurate a short barreled 9mm can be though. I can easily hit bowling pins at 75 yards while standing.

OP should definitely get the PS90 if he hates his money. My subgun obsession started with the VZ-61, moved into the 9mm AR, now I've got an Uzi build in progress and I'm already looking forward to Stens or a VZ-26. PS90 is on my to-do list but I'm already invested in so many calibers
>>
>>33297716
I would totally endorse the P90 if it was chambered in something else not retarded
I will always hate the MP7 for the same reason
>>
>>33295626
Unless you're going to SBR it fuck that shit.
>>
Anyone SBR one here? I don't want to fuck my original barrel and fn is uber jew with spares. Was going to fish for another 16 barrel to cut

Plan B is convince my LGS to order a p90 and scrap the receiver, wich ill promptly reweld and block the naughty bits

It's probably one of my favorite semi-autos that I own. I've never had as much fun at the range before I was dumping 50rd mags with this thing. You definitely get some interesting looks from people when shooting it. I'd definitely recommend getting one with the low-profile RMR mount or the standard version if you can find something to replace the 1913 rail like a factory ring sight, since it is pretty high already for most optics and you can't get a very good cheek-weld.
>>
>>33297765
Yes sir, I got 500 rounds of ss197sr for $18 each and free shipping. Although I've paid 24 to 27 a box at LGSs at times. I agree suppressed 9mm SBRs are awesome, although the recoil can be more than ideal.

>>33297799
5.7 is a decent performer, it wasn't meant to replace 5.56; although it holds well with 5.56 in short barrels. FN should troll people and release a .22 mag conversion kit.
>>
I've got a PS90. It's a fun little gun, even if ammo's a bit spendy.

Iron sights are the barest of bare minimum, though. Plan on a red dot. I stuck a EOtech on mine because I've more money then sense, but it's fun.
>>
>>33297961
I think OP could probably do a primary arms Micro dot. Can be had for $90 for their lower end one or $150 for the advanced.

I will personally attest to their toughness; drove 14 hours with my rifle in a soft case
First it rained for 5 hours
Then it snowed for 5 hours
Then the last 4 hours were below 0f.

Pulled the frosty rifle out of the case and the dot still works fine, still on zero even.
I paid $70 on fleabay for it
>>
>>33295626
It's a great gun, with great ergonomics. Ammo is a bit expensive.

Not a home defence gun, obviously.
>>

It's fun to shoot, and great for new shooters because of the complete lack or recoil.

Might as well go full meme though and get a 5.7 as well. Or the .22 WM carbine and pistol from Kel-tec
>>
>>33299191
And no, I'm not keeping that mile high rail, I'm goign with a low pro one from tros or something.
>>
>>33295626
I love this gun, hate that barrel. I don't think I'm unique in that opinion.
>>
>>33299191
yeah, if I had the dough I would definitely get the pistol with it cause it's badass.
>>
>>33295626
Do it OP
I'll suck your dick if you let me take it to the range for a day
>>
>>33298389
5.56 is also 2x the kinetic energy

Out of a P90 it will beat most pistol rounds though.

>>33299174
Quite the opposite.

OP here everyone. The consensus is clear: PS90 is expensive but a nice firearm nonetheless. I am going to purchase one the next time I find one for under $1200.

Thanks for all the responses

Is it fun? Yes. Did I buy it because of cute loli from Gunslinger Girl? Yes.

Not really that expensive unless you consider anything over $500 expensive. The ammo is not that bad either, watch Gunbot, subscribe to PSA emails, and buy in bulk. Just picked up 1000 for about $360 with free shipping from PSA. The cheaper American Eagle is fine for plinking.

First thing to come off was that rail and replaced with a mount from Design Machine http://dmachineri.com/ On top of that I mounted a Primary Arms Microdot. Much better set up than factory.

Fifty round magazines are easy to find. Or, you can hunt down deals on 10 round magazines and convert them to 50 rounds easily and cheaper than a new 50 round magazine.

At the end of the day it is just a fun rifle to take to the range. Gets all sorts of strange looks. People ask questions. Fudds are confused by it and hate it. We all need a nice toy and it is just that, a toy.

One last note, going the SBR route is a pain and you'll have to decide if you can live with the longer barrel.

That's not a good plan because, since the P90 is manufactured in Belgium, they'll have to cut up the barrel.

The factory barrel is not actually 16". The permanently attached barrel shroud with the long flash hider is what brings it to legal length. Removing the shroud is a destructive process although if you're careful enough, you should be able to reassemble and pin it if you really wanted to. Mine is a chop.

Also, I don't think a P90 receiver is going to be functionally different, obviously the markings will be different and it's legally a machine gun forever, but it's the trigger group that makes a P90 full fun. Also, the receiver is cast aluminum so you'll probably have some difficulty getting someone who can reweld an aluminum receiver skillfully enough to keep everything straight.
>>
>>33301866
Modularity, and... this may sound naïve, but I could mill a lightning link if I ever needed to... haha... Also, while I love the 7.62x39, idk if it should be my go-to round.

>the potential trouble of having used an NFA item in self defense
Is that really an issue in a defense scenario? I was thinking of using a suppressed 9mm SBR for home defense but if there are any negative repercussions to it, I might go a different route and just keep the SBR for fun times.
>>
>>33305079
If there ever would be, it would be for political reasons. There were a few cases in the 80's where full-auto guns were used in self-defense, and the prosecutors had political motivations.

Both of the judges said that the case was NOT about the type of firearm, but whether it was a legal shoot in the first place. Basically, if you have morals, and don't shoot unless necessary, it shouldn't be a problem, I don't think.

Get a good self-defense lawyer.
