Hey guys I'm interested in getting an AR15 and wanted to know what /k/'s opinion on building an AR or paying for it already built. If already built do you guys recommend buying it from a big name company or private sale?

Anderson for receivers, Ballistic Advantage for barrel, any phosphate BCG from a reputable company(I recommend Aim Surplus), UTG Pro for buffer tube kit, Magpul for furniture and iron sights. Geissele and LaRue for triggers.

The hand guard is something that you will have to find yourself. There's a ton of options and you usually get what you pay for. I recommend the Geissele MK8.

cryptic has best coating but its just milspec bolt and LMT enhanced have delayed cam pin path and additional vent hole that will help plus the bolt is new age with aermot 100 steel and lugs is balanced and stress relief cut. it will last 2x as long as 158cm hpt/mpi bolt for real no lies no gimmicks half truth or anything. the extractor is propriety with twin spring but the spring is about size of ejector spring and you can trim down one to replace them but they last twice as long as standard one plus you always could put in o ring in pinch until you come by replacement spring whole thing is coated nickel boron.

Carbine on a 16" barrel has a long dwell time, producing a sharp recoil impulse. It will send the bcg back with authority, probably more than needed. Mid-length has shown to be very reliable on 16" barrels and produce a softer impulse and less wear on parts.

although carbine gassed 16" sharp recoil have been effectively alleviated by adjustable gas block or quality spring such as red springco and h2-h3 buffer.

carbine gassed can be made to recoil softer than factory middy with adjustable gas block.

with sharper recoil come with higher reliability in cold with weak ammo in harsh dirty environment.

It will stand up. both from extreme heat of rapid fire/auto fire and hard drop/bumps. SOCOM have used them with hk416

it is strong because the nut is so long and have plenty of contact surface with the handguard double mechanically locked from walking off and friction lock for anti-rotate atop mechanical anti-rotate lock from tab with adjustable screws. its strong against crushing too due to its geometry.

it might experience soft failure against non-realistic abuse and that a lot coming from me.

i shot out my first ar dpms ap4 carbine model barrel at 5k and continue shooting to 6k before freefloating it with garbage quad rail 13" handguard and selling it after sandy vag for $750 and laughing all the way to bank.

Then 3-4k thur spikes before giving it to my dad as i got attached to my psa and put 3.8k thur it before selling it because it barely shoot moa with match ammo.

then built two recce style upper and put under 1k between them cause fell upon hard time before i could actually shoot them and sold those. now i'm sitting with my retro bullet hose build unknown round count as this point cause i havent add up my round count log for even first time. but ballpark is at 1-2k now.

-dpms barrel that i shot out wasnt lined nor nitrided
-psa barrel i almost shot out was pre freedom line non-premium with mossberg or FN non-lined barrel

spikes with fn chf&cl spikes branded fn made barrel was shooting as good i got it.

ER shaw CHF&CL in HDSI upper i had wasnt nearly shot out

neither was gov profile FN barrel in other ALG recce upper.
