how long until handheld weapons start running on batteries instead of bullets? the US govt.'s top secret tech is like, 200 years ahead of civilian tech, right?
>>

Tough time waiting those games updating on steam, kid?
>>
>>33291129
No.
Batteries are unreliable anyways, and can't hold enough energy in a compact form to justify such a change.
>>
>>33291137
all my games are already updated :^)
>>
>>33291129
Technically it would still run on bullets, just caseless. Railgun/coilgun tech is still in infant stages and as someone already mentioned batteries are still pretty bulky. But carrying more ammo and possibly strapping a battery onto an exo may take care of that.

As plenty of people have said in the past, Exo's won't be the lightweight parkour systems we think of. It will basically be used as a means for soldiers to carry more shit.
>>
>>33291129
they already run on batteries

how do you think a round is reloaded and put into a chamber??

It'll be more Fallout, less Elysium. Turning infantry into walking tanks with heavy weapons platforms is the future of warfare.
>>
>>33291129
Quite a long time because humanity is dogshit at storing energy. We can generate it like crazy, but transmission and storage are ridiculously hard. Also, there isn't much research into faster and higher storing capacitors, which would be GREATLY advantageous for anything man portable, because the current ones require a shit ton of capacitors to release charge all at once and that takes up a lot of space and weight.
>>
>>33291183
If anything I think it would be more like MGS4 with quadrepedal Boston Dynamic style robots with a mounted gun, piloted by someone at a remote site
>>
>>33291145
I'm fairly certain that's why he asked "when". The technology isnt there yet, but some day it will be.

In fact, it basically is here, albeit in a form not usable in a handheld weapon yet. Graphine super capacitors/batteries are capable of storing a large charge and releasing it very quickly, while being more durable and far more compact

>>33291129
Never ever prolly
Because >>33291145, but even if we had iron Man power systems that fit in the palm of your hand infantry prolly won't carry energy weapons as a standard rifle. I can see MG crews being replaced by some sort of microwave gun that just cooks you through cover, etc, but the slug thrower will never go out of style.
>>33291183
Also no, pretty dumb concept actually. Hard to take cover behind a walking AP target that can't take an RPG
> But in mAh Vidya it can take all kinds of weapons
See >>33291137
Unless we make super dense, ultra lightweight magical armor, this is rendered stupid and expensive. Not to mention not having a way to power it in the next 200 years likely.
>>33292720
This guy gets it
And so does >>33293038
We are more likely to have the Terminator than anything like fallout or star wars.
>>33293347
It will be, but it won't be as reliable as a lasgun from Warhammer till 40k years in the future.
>>
>>33291129
what an uncomfortable handle...
>>
>>33291129
I want space gun
>>
>>33291129
That's not how tech works. People have Ben able to make a gas car that get 200mpg for over a hundred years, that doesn't mean it's a smart or cost effective investment. Hell the steam engine was a novelty toy in ancient Greece, nearly 2000 years ago.
Surely developments that are being discovered that will impact many break through a in the future.

> the US govt.'s top secret tech is like, 200 years ahead of civilian tech, right?

Ahahahahahaha, confirmed for never having worked for the government. "No" is the answer you're looking for. The government is about 30 years behind the private sector in every conceivable way

bullshit
