That's the sound of the beast!

>President Assad: First of all, we have to congratulate al-Nusra for having the first Oscar! This is an unprecedented event for the West to give Al Qaeda an Oscar; this is unbelievable, and this is another proof that the Oscars, Nobel, all these things are politicized certificates, that’s how I can look at it. The White Helmets story is very simple; it is a facelift of al-Nusra Front in Syria, just to change their ugly face into a more humanitarian face, that’s it. And you have many videos on the net and of course images broadcasted by the White Helmets that condemn the White Helmets as a terrorists group, where you can see the same person wearing the white helmet and celebrating over the dead bodies of Syrian soldiers. So, that’s what the Oscar went to, to those terrorists. So, it’s a story just to try to prevent the Syrian Army during the liberation of Aleppo from making more pressure on the attacking and liberating the districts within the city that have been occupied by those terrorists, to say that the Syrian Army and the Russians are attacking the civilians and the innocents and the humanitarian people.

From what I understand, the SAA is slowly making a comeback since taking Aleppo, but hasn't reformed into a real army; Turks have some land in the north and are holding it just to keep the Kurds from hooking up their territories; ISIS getting fucked everywhere because everyone hates them. Assad is on track to become the new Castro in terms of "Wow, hes still in power?"

>How can russo/turk diplomatic relationship warm up given this context? How do the USA justify cucking a fellow NATO member?

Because ISIS is their top priority, not threatening the tactical capability of the only force capable of assaulting Raqqa at the moment.

Fighting the Kurds goes against everyone (besides Turkeys) interest in Syria at this moment.

There is a time and place for everything, and the Turks seem to think the Kurds are a bigger threat than ISIS.
>>
>>33273850
This, nobody talks about Syria. Its all about the "liberation" of Mossoul (and for some reason it's not going to be the big genocide like in Aleppo which is ironic considering 100% anti gvt while it wasn't the case in aleppo).

The media tends to avoid slow developing, complicated subjects. Blame the public's short attention span for that.

Far easier to say "ISIS bad dudes are getting killed Mosul by the Iraqi Gov" then to try explain the cluserfuck that is the web of groups and interests involved in Syria.

and it's better to just use the threat of being kicked out of NATO than to actually do it. you'll gain better leverage that way.

Iraqi forces take third of west Mosul, jihadists 'trapped'

>Mosul (Iraq) (AFP) - Iraqi forces seized a third of west Mosul and trapped Islamic State group fighters inside as they made further gains in their battle to retake the city, officials said Sunday.
>Fierce fighting has shaken Mosul in recent days as thousands of US-backed Iraqi soldiers and police battle to reclaim the country's second city.
>A renewed push against the jihadists launched last Sunday has seen IS forced from several neighbourhoods and key sites, including the main local government headquarters and the famed Mosul museum.
>By Sunday, Iraqi forces were tightening the noose.
>"ISIS is trapped. Just last night, the 9th Iraqi army division... cut off the last road out of Mosul," the US envoy to the anti-IS coalition, Brett McGurk, told journalists in Baghdad.
>"Any of the fighters who are left in Mosul, they're going to die there," he said. "We are very committed to not just defeating them in Mosul, but making sure these guys cannot escape."

That ERA turret ERA profile looks unique to me, not counting arrays that use Kontakt-5 or other heavy ERA which have different geometry.

A bit reminiscent of T-64/80 arrays but with fewer gaps and far better coverage.
Overall it seems to be better then the vast majority of Kontakt-1 arrays.

No one is expecting domestic heavy ERA, repositioning light ERA tiles for better protection is better then what most nations do.

Iran decided to start manufacturing their domestic "variant" of the T-90 after the purchase for the Russian real T-90's fell through. Russian's weren't willing to give the Iranians their tech for the tank, which was a part of the deal that the Iranians wouldn't budge on.

I got someone to translate the "specs" that the Iranian government reported.

It's as follows: It is the lowest tank in the world
It is laser guided
It can make precision shots
It is all digital and its mechanics are flawless
It can be almost fully submerged
It is unstoppable by almost any terrain

Also, just in; the last pocket of rebel resistance in Homs has officially surrendered. The only rebel units left near the city are to the north in the suburbs/countryside.
>>
>>33293075
Its amazing that Rastan was among the very first towns to fall to the rebels (or even the first) and will be among the last to be recaptured, despite being completely surrounded and in the middle of pro-regime territory
>>
>>33292599
Russian back stabbed Iran in the T-72S agreement

so i think Iran don't want the same thing happen again

maybe Russian and Belarus are sending them new gun and optic
>>
>>33293243
well maybe. Rastan lies along the road connecting Homs and Hama. The Syrian government won't have any trouble circumventing the towns the rebels captured, but if they're doing well in other fronts and have the manpower to spare, they'll try to recap the town and finally have a direct link between the two cities.

Though I suspect you're right, SAA has bigger priorities (that demand more manpower) for the foreseeable future, and they can simply drive around the rebel held positions if need be.

Anyone by chance have the video?

It was a video I believe from the attempts at breaking the Aleppo siege (rebel breaking) and it was Islamic Front/Ahrar al Sham.
A guy keeps just peaking a corner and exposing himself and the squad leader beside him is like if you peak like that again I'll just shoot you myself. Was humorous but I lost the vid.
>>
I find it funny ISIS knows exactly what the audience wants, even though the audience are western kuffar warhounds.. Like I mean, why should that surprise me, but in their newest Al-Furat video during the CQC there is a little measurement graphic saying "10 meters!" showing the distance between them and the enemy. They know combat hounds love those close encounter videos...

They're trying to blow the flames out with the blast of a tank cannon.

If they were successful it would just be oil / natural gas spraying around, which is far easier to work with than an inferno.

The idea is solid, but I think they'd need a much more powerful shock wave to be successful. Like a Russian FOAB drop.

Because much of /k/ is too damn arrogant to change their thoughts on things.

Look how bloody long it took the F-35 on here to be regarded a good aircraft.

Or the "Type 055 cruiser will never be built".. which then turned into "they won't build more than one".

Lots of chest pounding (though some of it is intentional to get a rise out of people on here), not enough thinking.

Russia and the US have forces in the SDF controlled territory flying flags. This is to signal go turkey they can't attack there without causing major issues for them.

It's to keep the FSA and Turks in check from attacking the Kurds. The Kurds even gave some land to the SAA to control so there is a buffer zone between them and the FSA.

(1/2)
All,

As an effort to open up a line of communication and bring an informed perspective, I am going to present two points regarding posting unverified information from foreign sources. Please read carefully and let me know if there are any questions.

1. Just because foreign media has picked up a story, DOES NOT MEAN THE INFORMATION IS DECLASSIFIED OR NEVER HAD ANY CLASSIFICATION ASSIGNED TO IT. Please use common sense. I see people posting stories from foreign regime run sites (for instance RT), referencing civillian casualties due to NATO activity, NATO troop movements, among other topics. Without verifying from a legitimate source that this information is true and is public domain, you may be in violation of 18 U.S. Code § 798 - Unauthorized disclosure of classified information by re-posting it. This also applies to Wikileaks, Snowden, and other high profile leaks. If you had a clearance, you would know that there are briefings warning specifically that this information is still classified.

2. If the information from the foreign-run propaganda website is assigned any classification rendering it illegal to disclose due to being untrue, then reposting it constitutes engaging in informational warfare on behalf of a foreign regime. Posting stories, images, half-truths, hoaxes, and other devices created by foreign regimes to undermine faith in the US Federal Government. This is not a first amendment issue, you are not speaking your opinion, you are using a public utility to spread propaganda deliberately created as a weapon against the American people. With all the scrutinity currently surrounding Russian meddling in the media and election process, this is not something you want your name linked to. There are so many ways this could be interpreted in the US Code that it is impossible to list them all.
>>
(2/2)

In conclusion, you come across a story on RT (or any other website) alleging some information about US Military activity overseas, and cannot verify it through a legitimate news source, consider that it is either classified information, or false/fake information created for the purpose of informational cyber warfare.

Thank you, and again please advise if there are any questions.

Apologies for the second post, I kept hitting your character limit.

This is quite concerning.

The 5th corps was established and equipped by the Russians so the SAA would once again have a full bodied military unit under the control of the government, and not local warlords (like the Tigers, Hawks, NDF, etc). However they failed to get 100% recruitment but still went and captured Palmyra anyways.

What concerns me is the demographics, look at the men, they are all old or middle aged men, no youth.

Long term the Syrian Government will have major issues with these warlords if they are already scraping the barrel and being unable to completely fill out a new SAA unit.

>>

Yes, and yes, they were the primary force responsible for holding T4 and then used as an offensive asset to reclaim Palmyra.

The Russians gave them a LOT of gear, they are a fully mechanized unit, just not at full manpower and using older stuff like T-55s.

This was all part of the Russian MoD strategy to slowly transition away from militias/warlords doing the bulk of fighting on behalf of the Syrian Government to Syrian Government controlled forces.

The problem with the SAA is they will never be able to completely suppress the insurgencies in their country, they simply do not have the manpower to even have sovereign control over most of Syria at this point.

Why do you think Turkey was so keen on opening the refugee corridor for Syrians into Europe?

It was to deprive Assad of conscription for the army.

Now those men are fondling German girls at subway stations rather than fighting for their homelands.

Honestly, if you see a 20-something Syrian outside of Syria, they ought to be severely beat or shot for cowardice.

My grandfather joined the Wehmacht at 16 willingly as a lorry driver, then volunteered to go into combat in 1943 with a front line fireforce unit and then spent the last two years hallucinating in Romania due to hunger and covered in dried up feces from the episodes of dysentery he suffered, while being harassed by partisans who mutilated German corpses and the constant artillery and tanks of the Red Army.

I guess running away from combat to fondle women wasn't an option back then.

Syrian Gov is slowly retaking territory with increased Russian support.
Syrian Loyalists fragmented between Assad and local warlords/oligarchs/militias.
Russia recently revitalized the SyAA by giving it a new armored corp with T-62M and BMP-1.
ISIS is losing ground in Iraq, slowing bleeding men and material.
Turkey just invaded Syrian and is now directly backing the TFSA.
TFSA is advancing with Turkish support.
USA continues to PGM the fuck out of everything, now has ground troops with the Kurds.
USA supported SyAA advance on Palmyra against ISIS with airpower.
Kurds are doing good but the Turks are advancing towards them.
FSA/1st Coastal Div continue to hold their bit of territory with US weapons.
Hezbollah is gaining combat experience and increased Iranian support.
Iraqi Gov slowing retaking Mosul, will continue to drain ISIS forces.
Iran is making a play for regional power by backing the Iraqi Gov with weapons inc tanks, Assad with men and material.
Saudi is fighting Iran for regional power via proxy forces in Syria.
Qatar is backing the Saudi play with weapons, massive new buy of warpact arms signals increased support.
Israel mostly stays on the sidelines but sometimes bombs arms headed to Hezbollah.
Eastern Europe, particularly Croatia, is making a killing on old arms and ammo.

Its a clusterfuck.

Its reliability is probably shoddy as fuck from being a hodgepodge of weapon parts and scrap metal bolted and welded together, plus they couldn't possibly be able to manufacture enough workable builds to make a difference in combat. Improvised weapons like these are usually for propaganda purposes to claim that they can produce their own weapons (quality notwithstanding).
>>

Ah, like how ethnically-Turkish Cypriot rebels were claiming to be manufacturing their own weapons with absolutely no materiel supplied by Turkey whatsoever at any time because EOKA was using spent 20mm cases clamped to scrap wood as match-fired (not matchlock) black powder pistols?

I suppose the effectiveness is debatable, but in a conflict as low intensity as yemen or syria I wouldnt discount the abilities of cottage industry production to at least provide SOME capabilities that they might not have had otherwise. There is definitely utility in being to reach out an harass thin skinned vehicles and punch through cover at 500+ meter distances that they might not otherwise have had in a man portable package.
