That's exactly what I paid about two years ago, so you did really well. I believe that's the cheapest I've ever seen a 17S, or at least within $50.

ACOG is best if you want to play battle rifle, unless you have Elcan money, but on the SCAR group I seem to see people dumping them time and time again.

If you're wanting long-range, I'm sure the leupold would be fine.

But I've held one, and it is possibly the most comfy 308 rifle I've handled. So, you did ok.
If you'd got the 556 version, I'd be laughing my ass off because that'd be a huge waste vs other 556 rifles.
