this. When I lived in Cincinnati, I had an indoor pistol range in the basement. I put up drywall and insulation around the whole basement, even drywalling over the windows. same with the ceiling. it wasn't exactly "cheap" but if you do it yourself it's affordable. just buy some supplies and do a little at a time. within a year you can have the whole place set up.

I set up a "bullet trap" that was full of compacted dirt, about 4 feet thick. plenty to stop any pistol rounds.

I've seen this stuff sell for like $14-15 a box and even less, but the idea is that "lead free" ammo doesn't need to be the ultra expensive, solid copper projectile stuff. They make a lead substitute alloy out of a variety of different metals and it's relatively affordable.

OK, I'll bite. The price on that stuff is good enough and I shoot enough steel plates that it might be cool to get in closer than 15 yards to my plates sometimes. What's the catch?

It's extremely low recoil so it doesn't mimic self defense loads at all. With my 5" longslide FNS the slide doesn't lock back on the last shot because it's so under powered.

I shoot steel plates with standard kacketed ball from 7 yards, worst I ever got was a bit of spall that feeling like a horsefly sting

Just wear your eyes and keep the shit eating grin to a minimum and it's all good from my experience
