How would /k/ design a character stat system with regards to guns?

Would the stat for rifles be different from the stat for pistols?

What would those stats effect?

How would you handle the stats for guns? Would the players stats effect how much damage they do?
>>
Damage based 100% on cartridge, guns only differ in accuracy (smaller differences within a caliber) and recoil (even smaller differences within a caliber)
>>
>>33219179
and of course reload speed, but this can be improved for each character
>>
>>33219179
What about barrel length, twist rate, etc.
>>
>>33219204
non-factors in most of the distances you will see in videogames. super long ranges, sure.
>>
>>33219204
Barrel length affects range up to a certain point and twist rate wouldn't matter unless there were different types of ammunition available.
>>
Need context for what kind of game.
If it's something like Call of Duty, then just balance shit so one thing isn't objectively better than the rest. Although snipers would be a 1 hit kill most of the time.

If it's something like ARMA, then I'd just mirror real life with damage based off of caliber, distance from target, and all that good stuff.

Worrying about twist rates in a video game is edging on the scary side of autistic.

But of course, a weapon with a shorter barrel will obviously be less accurate than the same with a longer barrel.

That isn't to say that 50 foot barrels = perfect accuracy, though.

Actual ballistic data could be used to determine whether or not things like 20 inch barrels on an AR are beneficial to say 16 inches in-game.

>Different stats for different weapon categories
>Sinking points into a certain type of gun unlocks new abilities for all guns of that category
>Certain milestones add new, faster reload animations
>can spec differently, ie; a stationary sniper or a run an' gun marksman
>You have to use a gun in a certain category to unlock new tiers to for the whole category
>If you really like a certain weapon, there is high tier individual options for specific weapons. (ie, Lee-Enfield special ability = mad minute)
>Damage stat based on caliber, so all .45acps do the same damage (maybe minor variations for guns with better muzzle velocity)
>certain categories benefit from other different categories, like using an SMG also helps to unlock new tiers for ARs but very slowly, (maybe 30% of total SMG xp is added to ARs)

Honestly, Killing Floor 2 got oddly close to my dream stat system...

Character stats for natural ability to quickly reload, sight, handle recoil, and recover from accuracy impulse.
Character also has a familiarity stat with each individual weapon that improves the aforementioned stats for that weapon as they use it or learn about it.

Well, in the game pictured you're a magitech space knight with guns that fire rapid-fab ammunition augmented by an energy called Light and usually with some kind of elemental boost as well.

define "stat system" ?
>>
>>33219078
Gun stat determines stuff like how steady your character keeps the sights, reloading speed, recoil management, how fast you transition from gun to gun, and how long a character can keep a rifle shouldered. Damage on guns is completely fixed.

Lets say you have a gun stat that goes from 0 to 100:

Sight sway improves constantly, at 0 they constantly (but softly) sway at all times and at 100 they don't move at all. Same with recoil, at 0 a single burst sends you to the sky with a 9mm SMG, at 100 you can easily keep your sights on someone while unloading a 5.56 rifle.

At 0-24 skill you reload very clumsily and your transitions are slow and awkward, at 25-49 skill you can reload without any fumbling and can do a smooth transition, at 50-74 you can do a fairly quick reload and and always keep your sling on so you can drop and grab, and 75-100 you can do a speed reload as fast as you could transition in the last skill level and you can draw your handgun with your offhand and fire immediately while slinging your rifle.

Accuracy has fuck all to do with barrel lengths unless it's a major difference like 7 vs 18 inches. Really it's metallurgy and barrel thickness.
>>
Hidden sanity meter that decreases the more time you spend with gun of choice.

Bonus damage towards terrorist or hudlems
