I really love pictures like these because it showcases guns we always talk about and see pictures of "in the wild."
I dunno. Something really cool about that.

The courts deemed it to be a white supremacist symbol even though it was not listed in any encyclopedia of hate symbols. The intent was to send a hateful, racist message.

Okay, I have a question, I've lurked these threads for about 2 months and still can't find an answer
Why are people allowed to differentiate from standard military gear?
I get some of these people are foreign military forces, or police, and some are PMC where uniform regulations can be a bit more relaxed or provide different equipment. But I was under the impression that even if you're operating for the US military they still have very strict dress codes.
Are they dressing up or trying to look cool for the camera? Are their COs and dress codes not as strict as I've been lead to believe? Or are they just jaded to the point where they don't care and just want to feel comfy while operating?

Most SF Units have relaxed deployment standards. If they are in civilian clothes and the picture is centered on someone else they are part of PSD unit.
>>33232978
There is a lot of variation even among line units. Depends on what older GI equipment/uniforms is being mixed in with newer GI stuff, depends on what equipment may be bought by their HQ for a specific deployment based on what is avaliable and prudent for their area (for example before there was a standard GI plate carrier, even GI guys in Afghanistan could be spotted wearing all kinds of stuff, depending on what their local leadership bought).
Add in that kind of mismash of equipment to the sorts of things SOF gets issued, and you have a lot of variety. SOF guys get issued different gear than normal units. Mo' money and they have different needs/goals.
Add to that that yes, during a deployment rules will lax on little petty bullshit stuff and a lot of guys get away with whatever the local, informal limits are (wearing non-reg uniforms so long as they are in the right camo, or wearing personal armor so long as it holds all the plates that are SOP).
Lot and lot of variation out in the wilds away from garrison and training, my friend.

>>33233190
Yeah man. It's not to say that operators aren't over represented in places like /k/, because they are more interesting to look at.
Another factor is the amount of micromanagement/trust of line troops there is. In units with little combat experience, you will more often see commanders clamping down HARD and getting autistic down to standardized pouch placement. Same deal with units that have a big influx of new guys.
Combat tested units- especially those away from micromanaging high level leadership will develop more trust in their guys. I've seen grunt guys in guard towers or turrets wearing civilian hoodies. But they are smart enough to have discretion to take it off around cameras or stick-up-ass leadership.
SOF guys are pretty much intrinsically more trusted by their leadership and thus given more latitude on small shit as long as it doesn't interfere with the mission or buck the local unit culture. Also, like half the reason that line guys want to go SOF is to grow beards and wear cool clothes- it's an informal recruitment benefit and nobody wants that to go away.

Oh man, my unit was hilarious about this in OEF. We were allowed to wear unit shirts by higher, and so our commander had a bunch of hoodies made with our unit logo and we just rocked those. Super comfy inna mountains.
Here's my garbage issued equipment to keep it relevant.
