It's really not. If anything Ruger's barrels are sometimes overbuilt, especially comparing their revolvers to S&Ws of equivalent size and caliber.

yes and no. the overwhelming majority of people that own guns don't shoot them enough for the double price difference to be apparent. more expensive guns (usually) will last you 10's of thousands of rounds, where as that ruger probably wont.

but if you ever shoot even 5k rounds through a single gun you own, you'd be WAAAAAYYYY ahead of 99% of gun owners, so getting an FN or glock or something would really be worth it since you actually shoot your guns a lot.

but for most people, who only put several hundred rounds through a gun if they own it for 10 years.... not really much difference IMO. then again most people lie their assess off about how often they shoot, and how much ammo they've put through their guns.

Just make sure you try everything in that price range first. If the Ruger is what you want go for it. I would get a sig sp2022 or a beretta 92 variant, or even a cz. However I have used/seen them used and prefer them.

You can always get a glock for a little bit more, Always a good choice.

I used to work in the Prescott factory and I was a welder/fabricator before and after working there.

even on the cheapest pistol they make(lcp),
the aluminum for the frame is 7075-T6 bar stock from kaiser (made in the usa).

Ive seen the billet blocks of SS that they machine the 1911's out of and although I have not personally seen the steel used for the American pistols. I have never seen ANYTHING but quality materials used in that factory.

Sorry that was a very sloppy explanation and I don't have a link, but some google-fu will back me up.

FN and DD are known for top-tier long lifespan barrels, FN and DD barrels also generally have a tighter profile than their competitors.

I know anecdotal junk but it's the only thing that comes to mind and too lazy to factually support my position right now.

Here's my story as a current owner of the 9mm version. It's a fine gun and is wicked reliable. My only gripe is that it isn't comfortable to use at all. The tops of the interchangeable grip is sharp and cuts into the webbing of my hand. It's like slide bite, but not the slide. And that square ass it has is ridiculous.

I really liked it at first. I wanted to love it.
That won't be happening. I'm planning on trading mine in for a 3rd gen Glock 17.
(Bonus question: is there any reason I should get the Gen4 instead? I don't see any reason to, and the spring doesn't seem like it's that big of a deal to me)
